Nvidia Restrict Mointor Resolution Options

Sep 19, 2008

Vista and NVidia are very restrictive about EDID and restrict available Monitor Resolutions, While ATI and NVidia have made options available for over-riding available resolution values...Some may find this resets or your real maximum resolution is completely unavailable

My "PnP Monitor" would get reset to 1024x768 every so often and was a pain in the *** to get the NVidia panel to force the proper resolution even though the NVidia control panel recognizes the display and names ir correctly...I found this Overclockers Article about removing two pins to remove EDID transmitted information...I was shocked to find it does exactly what you want, It will allow you to set any resolution/refreshrate you want! I dont recommend doing this on your monitor cable encase you permanently destroy your monitor cable!!!!!! Go out and buy some DVI adapters... there less than $5!! How to: Set whatever res I want to my monitor? (Disable Edid) - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net......

Installation Update Can Not Working Mointor

Jun 25, 2008

i'll straight to the point: i've bought Vista home premium 64 bit with SP1 included. My hardware is: intel E8400 on a asus p5k-e, asus 9800gtx, 4gb ram kingston, WD velociraptor hd. I can install Vista up to the first time it shows me the desktop, i can download updates, browse the internet and so on. But when i restart the PC (or stopand start again) the boot will stop soon after the green progress bar will be displayed. Then the PC will go in something like power saving (the monitor goes in idle, the hd stops working).

And it's just the same if i let it do the updates or not, install the latest drivers or not, i've even flashed the bios with the newest one..no changes.only when, after that issue, windows asks me if i want to start in normal mode or the "no driver mode" (no idea about the exact words in english, i'm sorry) if i choose that second mode it can boot..so it seems to me a driver issue..It's not a matter of the multi boot, it does the same even with only that hd installed in the PC. My other hd with XP works just fine in the same PC. I've tried everything i could think about..really have no clue about what to try next.. anyone got any idea about what i should do?

Wireless Network Usage To Mointor

Nov 4, 2009

On my home network (wired and wireless) i would like to monitor the internet usage by various computers, the reason being we keep going over our limit or the internet is almost always slow (unless i am the only one home, then its fine) and of course all users deny its them. Is it possible to find out what is chewing up all our bandwidth? note: Most connected devices are wireless except one pc that is directly connected via cable, i thought it would be possible to install something on it to keep track on what's going on,

Specs/info
Wireless/ Wired network (encrypted)
1 NETGEAR DG834PN Router
1 wired desktop with networked printer
1 xbox 360 connected via cable to router
2 Windows XP laptops connected via wireless
3 Windows 7 laptops connected via wireless.....

Interesting TCPIP Restrict The Scale Factor

I have an event that I would like to learn more about and Microsoft Technet nor google has helped me in this one. Event ID: 4228 Source: TCPIP Message: TCP/IP has chosen to restrict the scale factor due to a network condition. This could be related to a problem in a network device and will cause degraded throughput. Could this be a driver issue?

What Card Does Nvidia Make And Maximum Settings Nvidia?

What Card does Nvidia make(or do they)that will play crysis at all max settings and Max Res at close to 60-100FPS? I have seen a system with an 8800 Ultra SLI and out past the 2000 range res it dropped to around 25fps. What about the new GTX280?

Processor State; Lower Restrict CPU And Gain Battery Life?

Jul 18, 2009

I understand the point of a "maximum processor state." You can lower it to restrict the CPU and gain battery life. The CPU consumes less energy and the fans consume less energy from a cooler thermal load. I've never really understood the need for a "minimum processor state" though or what it even does for that matter.

How To Allow Server Access But Restrict Internet Access

Feb 27, 2010

Our Vista laptops (& my Xbox) access our basic Windows Home Server system through a Netgear router. It's all fine, but I want to (easily & quickly!) restrict & control when some laptops can access the internet while allowing free access to the server. (For instance, so children's internet access can be monitored but they can always get to photos & backups, etc. on the server.)

Resolution Changes Itself

Mar 26, 2008

I have a problem with resoution. Natively it is set to 1440 x 900, but somehow it changes itself to 1024 x 768. At first I thought that changing the resolution in display manager would help but then I found that there wasn't such a resolution to choose (!), but there had been before! So I restarted my laptop and the logon page was still in the smaller res but after logging in everything came back to normal. For a while, unfortunately! I don't know what I could do else? I have tried display manager, checking if there were any updates for my graphic card and recently updated windows. I'm running a toshiba laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 card and windows vista home premium.

Cant Set Up Resolution

Sep 28, 2009

when booted up her (Vista Home Premium 32 bit) computer, the screen resolution was screwed up (1024x758 is now the maximum possible, as compared to 1680x1050 before). I've had a look at it and can't see anything obviously wrong. I updated the video card drivers. The nVidia control panel also says that 1024 is the maximum. I tried setting it in the display panel so that all resolutions will be displayed, rather than just what my monitor 'supports', but that still has a max of 1024. nVidia Control panel is having the same problem.

Very Serious Resolution Issue

Jul 2, 2008

My screen can only support 1600x900 resolution,l but i didnt know that and when experimenting, i changed it to 1600x1000, which turned the screen black and displayed the message "out of range" or something like that. I sat still for some minutes, expecting the system to restore the previous resolution setting, as you know it does unless "YES, keep this resolution" is pressed, but nothing happened. So now im online with my Scientific Linux Live edition, asking for your assistance.

Missing Resolution

Feb 12, 2010

the resolution I've been running since I've bought my comp has gone missing. First noticed it when the icons on my desktop were reorganized, and loading up a game's log in screen came up smaller than normal. Resolution is 1600x900, completely missing from the display settings menu, only 1440x900 and 1600x1200 are available. Running an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card, and I made sure the drivers were up to date before posting here. After hours of scouring google to know avail, this is my last hope before swapping to a different v-card.

It's native screen resolution is _1920_x_1200_ px but Vista will allow me to set only _1600_x_1200_ resolution - anything bigger results in black jumping screen. And just this past weekend it won't stop happening, every time I try to boot up it is in 600x800 res. Some help would be excellent, I really don't feel like reinstalling the OS Also I'm running 64-Bit Vista Ultimate. My PC knowledge is decent, there's a heck of a lot I don't know though.

DNS Resolution Does Not Work In Vista

Oct 20, 2009

Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I understand my ISP only uses IPv4 - Virgin Media Anyway, name resolution does not work in Vista. I operate a LAN behind a router - GTA GNAT 3.42.This is merely a debian linux router kernel with features like HA (high availability et al). I use a PIII Coppremine, 512MB, CompactFlashCard with linux image, 3Com 10/100 PCI on the public interface, 4 Port SMC 10/100 and 2 Port Intel Pro/100. I have no problems with Win2K and Win XP Pro. I can ping and tracert domain name(s) with no problems (Win2K/WinXP);

Unable to do this in Vista.Disabled Vista Firewall for testing. Disabled (unchecked) IPv6 and discovery components on network connection. Disabled IPv6 in registry with DisableComponents FF patch i.e. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSet Services cpip6Parameters Disabled IPHelper service in services. Disabled DNSClient in services (to eliminate cache issues).Tried another NIC in the PC, a 3Com with correct drivers.Still cannot resolve domain names but get IP addr etc. Removed 3Com NIC. Onboard NIC - nVidia - Vista installed nVidia driver at install. As boths NIC fail DNS resolution, assumed not a NIC issue. Network Type - Workgroup (not connected to domain)....

Can't Set The Resolution Higher Than 1280 X 720

Mar 23, 2009

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I have a 24" LG Flatron L246WP-BN HD widescreen monitor and an integrated Radeon HD 3300 GPU on my ASUS M3A78-T mobo. After buying the monitor I realized it wouldn't work properly with my old system so I built a completely new one. (Check out my full system specs.) The monitor's native resolution is 1920 x 1200.

The problem I'm having is that I can't set the resolution higher than 1280 x 720. If I do I lose almost one-half of my screen (everything shifts to the left so I can't even see my Start button, etc.). Am I doing something wrong? What good is it having a widescreen 24" 1920 x 1200 HD monitor if I lose half the screen by setting it to it's native resolution?

Screen Resolution Changing

Mar 23, 2008

About once a week my screen resolution seems to be changing--I think on its own. I do have small kids that sometimes touch the keyboard, so that might have something to do with it, but I don't think so. I say its the resolution, but I am not even sure of that. When it happens the icons get bigger--and webpages font sizes become too big for a page. I have tried manually adjusting the screen resolution, but that doesn't seem to be the answer--it doesn't put it back the way it was before. To fix the problem, I have been restoring my system to previous dates---but it always seems to re-occur.

Odd Monitor Resolution Strikes Again

Jun 1, 2008

After the computer was recently updated online, an unusual problem surfaced. The screen resolution was reset to a much lower value, and I find the appearance of the large icons and type (despite my age) disagreeable. I went into resolution setup and returned the resolution to a previous value...It held for a few minutes and reset itself once again to the lower value. Finally, I realized that the resolution would not hold and returned to a previous configuration.

Now, the resolution is okay when in normal mode, but when the computer has been hibernating, it comes back on at the garish low resolution value. As soon as it reestablishes itself after the hibernation, the resolution becomes okay again. Anyone heard of this? It is very annoying. I have not downloaded SP1, and am afraid to take anymore online upgrades. Vista still sucks.
