Multiple Linksys Products And Network All Three Computers

Jun 26, 2008

I have cable internet, that runs to a Linksys BFESR41 router, one hardwire goes out to the PC. One hardwire goes out to the internet connection for a Linksys WRT54G, which then provides the internet access for both laptops. Linksys tech support helped me get internet to all three computers. They had me do a MAC clone on the wired router and PC to get internet working on the PC. Then they had me hook the wireless router to the wired router via the wireless router internet "in" connection. I want to network all three computers so that I can access files on each computer, as well as share a printer that is connected to the PC. As of now I have internet on all three computers, but they do not "find/see" each other.

Cannot See XP Computers On Network

Jun 17, 2008

I am very new to Vista. I have a small home network. The three XP machines on the network use static IP addresses. One of the XP machines shares a printer. When I open Windows Explorer and click on Network the only computer listed is the Vista Business machine.

I cannot find any way to search for a computer by entering the computer name or IP address as I can in Explorer on XP. I have no idea what the search box in the upper right corner is supposed to do but it does not work. As soon as I type any character in the box it says "No items match your search." I can ping the XP machine from a command window on the vista machine. If I do DIR \COMPUTERNAMEPRINT$ at the command prompt the directory on the XP machine is listed. I can see the Vista machine in Explorer on the XP machine. What must I do to allow Vista to see the other computers on the network?

Find IP Of Computers On Network

May 31, 2008

I have 2 computers connected at my home (A PC running XPsp2 wired connection and laptop Vista Home Premium via wireless connection). The connection is working fine and I can see the desktop PC from my laptop network page. Is there a way I can find the IP address of the desktop without manually having to go there? I can do it for my laptop by going to network and sharing center >> view status etc. Is there a way preferably without using cmd to find the IP of a remote computer connected via LAN?

How Connect To Network Of Several Computers?

Feb 7, 2009

How do I connect a laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium to a network of several computers running Windows XP Professional using network cables? When I select "Connect to" in the start menu, set up a "connection or network", the available options include:

1. "Connect to the internet", but the laptop is already connected to the internet
2. "Set up a wireless router or access point" - I don't want this
3. "Manually connect to a wireless network" - I want to connect to a non-wireless network
4. "Set up a wireless ad hoc network" - I use wires!
5. "Set up a dial up connection" - I have a broadband connection already working
6. "Connect to a workplace" - I want to make the laptop part of the home network

Which of these options should I choose, or should I do something totally different?

Cannot See Computers In Network Window

Dec 25, 2008

Two PC's, a Linksys WRT54GS router and an ADSL modem connected via ethernet cables. Internet works fine on both computers but file sharing not quite well. I am able to reach the contents of shared folders by IP, using form "\192.168.1.xxx" or "\computername" but I cannot see the computers in Network window. I have installed LLTD on computer runs xp. I also have got the lastest service packs (vista: SP1, xp: SP3) and the latest updates installed on both computers. This 64 bit vista is newly installed, because of new hardwares (mobo, cpu, ram). I used a 32 bit version before and the sharing stuff worked fine. XP system is the same, I did not touch it except LLTD. Both computer belongs to the same workgroup. Of course in vista I have enabled File sharing, Network discovery and Public folder sharing. I have set a Private Network. I can access other computer's content by typing IPs or computer names in Run dialog box, but I cannot see them (only local computer) in Network window.

Wireless Network Consisting Three Computers?

Mar 23, 2008

I have a home wireless net work consisting of three computers. I have had this network set up and running for about three years (so I am not "brand new" at this). However, what has changed is the fact that now one of my computers runs Vista - the other two run Windows XP Home (formerly, of course, all three were running Win XP). I am sure that my problem lies within the fact that Vista is more secure and there by is putting up some "road blocks" that I am unfamiliar with.

On my VISTA computer - I can currently open and share files with my other two XP computers without any problem. On my XP computers - this is where I am having my problems - I have not been able to access my "shared" files residing on the Vista computer.

Make XP Computers Show Up In Network Map

Mar 6, 2007

The new Network Map in Windows Vista allows you to easily create a map of all computers on your network and see how they are connected.  This works by using the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) protocol that is only part of Windows Vista.

To help users of mixed environments of both Windows Vista and Windows XP, Microsoft has released the Link Layer Topology Discovery Responder for Windows XP.  This will make your Windows XP computers show up in the Network Map in Windows Vista.

This package contains the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) responder. The network map on a computer running Windows Vista shows a graphical view of the computers and devices on your network and how they are connected by using the LLTD protocol. The LLTD responder must be installed on a computer running Windows XP before it can be detected and appear on the network map. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

I system restored back to a day previous and the same situation prevails. Strangely, the other Vista machine (Laptop Vista) can see the XP machine, and the LT Vista was updated and remains so.All machines are discoverable and all have shared folders.

XP Network - Computers Unable To Share Files

Apr 23, 2008

I have a home office network with one new Dell laptop with Windows Vista Home Basic which I bought a couple of weeks ago, one desktop with Windows XP Pro and one older laptop with Windows XP Pro. The laptops are connected wirelessly, the desktop is using a wired Ethernet connection.

Obviously, there have been never a problem with XP machines. Initially, the Vista machine was also able to connect to everybody else. I didn't even bother to look at the settings because everything worked. Then I went to a business trip, and connected to other networks, including wireless public ones in the airports. When I came back, I was unable to share files or even see other computers on the LAN. The internet connection is working fine though. Oh yes, and I also installed a couple of updates, probably some of those constituting Service Pack 1 as well.

When I checked the network, to my surprise, it turned out that it became "Public" (could this be "guilt by association" - the airport wireless networks are public, so my home network is public, too?). I changed it to "Private". Didn't help. Checked shares, made sure that the users have the same passwords. Ditto. I deleted the history of the airport networks. Still the same.........

Networked Computers Work But Do Not Show Up In In The Vista Network Folder

Jan 31, 2008

I am networking Vista and XP. Everything seems to be working EXCEPT the XP computer does not show up in in the Vista network folder. I can access the XP computer by entering \computername in the "start search" box, after which I see all the XP shared files and can access the files as expected. When I run the "map complete network" function, the network map is correct and shows the switch, XP computer, and Vista computer. The XP side works 100%

The only problem is that on the Vista side when you open an explorer window and click on Network, the XP computer doesn't show up. For purposes of debugging, both firewalls are off. Authentication is set to NTLMv1 level, and the XP LLTD patch has been applied.

Multiple Network Adaptors: No Internet Access

Mar 23, 2008

I have recently installed Vista on my desktop PC which seems to be having Internet Connection problems. My Desktop PC has 2 Network Adaptors each connected to separate routers. I have one router (A) with IP 192.168.1.1 on Adaptor A and another router (B) with IP 192.168.2.1 on Adaptor B. The only router with Internet Access is router B. The problem I have is when I open internet explorer it seems to take a very long time to display the home page, and some times it times-out completely. If I open up a command prompt and type tracert www.google.com, the first line that comes up is 192.168.1.1 - This implies that it is trying to get to google via Router A which has no Internet access. I can only guess then it gives up after some time and tries the second Network Connection.

Is there any way I can set Vista so that it looks for Internet Access on Router B first, and not Router A? I've tried various things such as changing the Network Binding order Under Advanced in Network Connections but this does not help. This did not happen under XP - XP seemed to know which Adaptor had Internet Access without a delay/timeout.

Multiple Access Attemps To Other Pcs On Home Wireless Network

Feb 22, 2009

Today my laptop has made over 45 attempts each separated approximately 20-30 seconds to access another laptop in my home wireless network ports ranging from 51806-51956. The report I obtained from zone alarm firewall, Rating: High, Protocol (flags: S) 2/22/2009. I clicked more info on the attempt and zone alarm redirected me to one of their sites that mentions this attempt has blocked access to port 139 which happens to be a common port for windows network file sharing.

I am not sure whether this is actually a legitimate attempt since it was continuous for nearly 1h20m 6:50p-7:30p.

Unknowingly Purchasing Re-packaged RMA Products

Dec 26, 2008

When I ordered my new case a couple of weeks ago, I also ordered an Accelero S1 Rev2 Twin Turbo to put on my 4850. Today I decided to actually get around to installing it. When I opened the packaging and closely inspected the cooler, I discovered that the copper was dull and dirty, some of the fins were slightly scratched and dented and that there were scratch marks around the screw position adjustment area. I can only believe that I have received someone else's refurbished RMA job, since the packaging itself was brand new and that the factory applied TIM looks factory fresh and unused. It's not a show stopper, but I am a little pi*sed that it's not 'brand new'. I'm just curious if anyone else has received possible RMA products that they in good faith thought they were new and unused when purchased?

Won't Connect To Linksys Wireless-g Router

Dec 26, 2008

My family and i just got a new dell laptop with vista on it, but it will not connect to our home internet connection. We use a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router, Model WRT54G. I've tried various guides and searched high and low for an answer. When I try to connect to the network Linksys, It says
'Windows cannot connect to Linksys'.
Then, it says
"Make sure your computer is in range of "linksys" and that the network settings match the wireless router or access point settings"
All our other computers work fine with it, A laptop running XP, Our Home computer running XP, and even an iphone.
I'm not sure what that diagnostic is supposed to mean and I'm not familiar with vista at all.

New Linksys Wireless Connection, Basic.

Mar 23, 2008

I purchased WRT54G Linksys wirless adapter & WRT54G Linksys Router about 8-10 months ago. Router wired to my desktop pc running Windows XP & my wireless connection running Vista Basic on a desktop in another room..Everything has worked fine until about 3 days ago when I keep going in & out of internet connection on the wireless pc. Updated drivers from Linksys and was on the phone with them for 3 hrs. yesterday. They got my connection back up, but only for 15 mins. or so before losing my connection repeatedly. These are my current issues:

1. I have always had full signal streghth on the wireless pc.
2. I am connected to the network.
3. It says I'm connected to the internet but I can't surf the web.
4. Internet connection keeps turning on/off (Globe then no globe)
5. There are no issues at all with the pc with the router attached.
6. When diagnose and repair it says nothing wrong with my connection or sometimes check with my internet provider. (Internet on main pc working fine).
7. It's random but I have been able to browse a couple pages here & there, sometimes for a full hour.
8. Windows Update says there's been an update for my wireless adapter for months but I always get an Update Failed message. My pc has worked fine for all this time without it. There have been no changes to either pc. I don't know why I'm having issues now.
