Monitor No Longer Detected After SP1 Upgrade

Mar 27, 2008

I have a nasty problem with my monitor not being detected after the SP1 upgrade. During the upgrade, the New Device Was found dialog came up and started looking for my monitor (Sony GDM-W900). It couldn't find it so I told it "Don't ask me again" Well, everything seemed OK until I tried to assign a profile to the monitor. The monitor was not present in the Color management settings.

So, I went to the device manager and in there there was no monitor installed at all. I tried scan for new hardware and the monitor still didn't appear. I turned off the monitor and turned it on and scanned for new devices and still it did not show up.......

Monitor Not Recognized After SP1 Upgrade

Mar 27, 2008

My monitor not being detected after the SP1 upgrade.During the upgrade, the New Device Was found dialog came up and started looking for my monitor (Sony GDM-W900). It couldn't find it so I told it "Don't ask me again"Well, everything seemed OK until I tried to assign a profile to the monitor. The monitor was not present in the Color management settings. So, I went to the device manager and in there there was no monitor installed at all. I tried scan for new hardware and the monitor still didn't appear.I turned off the monitor and turned it on and scanned for new devices and still it did not show up.I then plugged in another monitor and it found it and installed it properly.Plugging the original monitor back in, results in No monitor in the device manager. If I select Scan for new hardware but not click it, and then turn off my monitor and then click the button, It detects hardware. If I then turn on my monitor, a monitor is in the Device Manager and it is a Generic Non Plug and Play monitor. This works, but at the next boot up, it goes back to seeing no monitor. Thus, having once told Vista "Don't ask again" it now never recognises that my monitor is plugged in (actually it probably does but does nothing).I know there are drivers available for my monitor. If I enablwe the display of old devices in the device manager I can update my GDM W900 driver from the internet with no problems. How do I get Vista to recognize that my monitor is plugged in now? Ot alternatively, how do I get Vista to ask my again for my monitor? I, have been with Vista since RC1 days.

Outlook 2007 No Longer Working After Upgrade From Home Premium To Ultimate

Oct 18, 2009

I had a copy of Ultimate laying around the house and decided for some stupid reason to upgrade the OS yesterday. It's been a nightmare. After 10 hours I've reinstalled many, many programs and have been able to get the to launch all of them with the exception of Outlook. I've searched for a solution and have had no luck following a solution to the problem I'm encountering.

I'm getting the following error message:

>>> Cannot open your default e-mail folders. An unexpected error has occured. MAPI was unable to load the information service mspst.dll. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured.<<<

I have successfully used Outlook 2007 for the past 6 months on my home PC. The problems I am encountering began immediately following the upgrade to Ultimate (32 bit--I thought I'd have less problems with drivers going 32 bit route than trying 64). I am hoping to salvage my contacts and calendar if at all possible (I have them backed up on an external drive but it's not current about 6 weeks old...I see an Outlook.pst in Windows.old but I cannot open it). I've had to reinstall Office Ultimate 2007 and I have run repair three times. All the Microsoft Windows Ultimate updates are installed. Not sure if this is related but the Office Ultimate Disc 2 will not install properly.

Added A Second Monitor To The GeForce 7100 GS Using A DVI-VGA Adapter And For The Life Of Me Cannot Get It To Display Anything, The Monitor Is Just In Sleep Mode

Apr 23, 2010

I added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........

I've tried pulling it out and putting it back in, even the BIOS settings detect no battery. When I remove the power cable, it still runs off battery, but the battery light turns red. Also, I am trying to upgrade my BIOS and as a requirement, you must have your computer connected to the battery AND to the charger

No Network Detected

Jun 23, 2009

Pardon if I just sound really computer illiterate, but I've recently switched from Windows XP to Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit.. and can't connect to the internet. I've got an HP Firebird 802, even sent it back to the company only to be told they had no problems connecting. I plugged in the ethernet cable directly into our wireless modem/router, but it still tells me that the network cable is unplugged. I've turned on Network Discovery, and still nothing. Just a lovely red X over my network status. I have a Westell 327w wireless modem/router, and the other computers that are on it are running XP.

ClearChat Comfort USB Not Detected

Jan 3, 2009

Now I've been having a weird issue with my ClearChat Comfort USB microphone and I've been asking both Logitech and Microsoft for support. So far, Logitech claims it's Microsoft's problem and Microsoft.... well anyway. I plug my microphone (Certified for Windows Vista) and nothing happens... I mean, there's nothing even in Device Manager. Now there are no drivers for this microphone and I haven't found any hotfix. I thought it was because of Vista 64x but I tried on my laptop using Vista 32 home edition and got the same issue. It worked well on my laptop before Vista Service Pack came out. Oh and yes, I have the latest version of all~ drivers

C Drive Hasn't Detected Anything

Apr 4, 2010

My C drive is filling up for some reason. I haven't installed anything new to it in a long time and have next to nothing downloaded on it. The drive is 70GB of which about 17 GB is stuff I've added. However, I apparently have used up 68 GB!! ANtivirus (AVG, Norton previous) hasn't detected anything.

It appears my C:Windows is 19 GB and another file, C:UsersMyname is using up another 16 GB. Can I reduce these, and how? Also, that leaves another 26GB completely unaccounted for! What's going on here?

I just bought this new HP laptop several months and now its infected with malware Trojan. A full scan on Windows defender shows that trojan is detected in some of the .dll files. I deleted 2 files on which it said trojan was detected. But next time I scanned on Windows Defender, some other .dll file showed up. Also scan on Bell Sympatico's Anti virus service, it shows no virus or spywares. My laptop is very slow than before, and also internet explorer browsers keep opening and they take me to some random antivirus sites.

Battery Not Detected Intermittently

Feb 23, 2009

I'm a very capable user running a Dell E1505 here. The battery lasted less than a year, and then I replaced it with a brand new battery. This has been in there for at most a month now. The past two days I have had an interesting situation going on. The computer is running Vista Home Premium, and it's running on AC. The battery seems to be working fine. It's detected fine, the PC runs off of the battery, and it charges as well. It's not set to suspend, hibernate, or anything like that at any time; these features are all deactivated because I am never in a situation to use them.

However, for the past few days, I have closed the lid and then gone to sleep at night, but when I have opened it up the next morning, I have the red X icon that says the battery is not detected. I've unseated the battery and clicked it back in each time, and it is immediately recognized and operates completely normally as described above after that.

The first time that this happened, I thought it may just have been some odd thing as can happen now and then with computers, and I ignored it. I went through my day using the E1505 as usual: leaving it unattended for minutes or hours while doing other things, closing the lid before going to the store, opening the lid again, etc., and it worked fine. However, when I awoke this morning the X was there with the no battery message. I again unseated and reseated the battery, and all seems normal.

Can't Boot Disk Detected!

Mar 23, 2008

Just finished building my new workstation....1x 250GB SATA drive on wich I want to install Vista Ultimate x64. 3x 500GB SATA drive wich i'd like to have running in Raid-5.
Asus P5E motherboard.

My first take was this:
1) connect all HDD's
2) Install vista on 250GB drive, leave 500GB drives alone for now.
3) Update Vista.
4) Restart, enable RAID in BIOS.
5) Ctrl+I at startup, setup RAID-5 with the 3 500GB HDD's in RAIDmanager. So far so good..... RAID manager shows RAID-5 correctly and shows that 250GB drive isnon-raid.
6) Reset, problem: no startup *"No bootbable drives found"* In BIOS, it shows all drives under boot devices, and the 250GB drive asthe first boot disk. But before the 250GB name it sais RAID also, wich I guess it shouldnot.......

Is Windows Defender Working :: Always Nothing Detected?

Sep 11, 2009

I use the Vista Firewall plus AVG Free 8.0 together with Firefox 3.5 Browser with Adblock. I also carry out a periodic manual scan using AdAware Anniversary Edition free.

Vista comes with Windows Defender, but in the 2 years I have had Vista, whenever I have scanned with it, it always reports 'no unwanted or harmful software detected - your computer is running normally!' Very reassuring or what? Does this mean everything else is doing a really good job or could it mean that Windows Defender is really not much use?

It is set as the default microphone and it's enabled. It works on my old computer still.

Canon HDV XH G1 Being Detected But Not Capturing On 64 Ultimate

Sep 21, 2008

It worked extremely well in Windows XP Home. I emailed Canon and they said that right now there is no support for 64 bit Vista with the camera. However, I have 4 GB of RAM and 2GB of Turbo Memory and I wouldn't want it to go to waste.

Is there any way I can email Microsoft (without having to pay $35 dollars) to suggest support for these products or if I were to install Vista Ultimate 32bit, would I lose my ability to use 4GB of RAM and the 2GB of Turbo Memory? How about if I dual boot it, would there be any complications? Can I use the same CD KEY as neither OS would be on at the same time?

SATA Drive Not Detected In BIOS.

Aug 3, 2007

Ok this is really starting to irritate me i am beginning to remeber why i always use ASUS boards!  Anyway i am up and running but on a crappy 20G Maxtor b/c my BIOS won't recognize the SATA drive.  I have the SATA controller enabled and i have tried all 4 connectors with no luck.  Updated BIOS still no luck.  Windows won't see it either.  Tried installing the Nvidia drivers of the support disk did not think that work an well it didn't.   Actually i'm sure it's the stupid Nvidia chipset but i updated it and still no SATA action.I have never seen a modern board that did not recognize SATA drives automatically i have tried 2 different drives a working Samsung and the new EXCELSTORE/Hitachi and in tandem as well.On a lighter note i already have her OC'ed at 2.5Mhz on a whole 512 MB of RAM........One of my sticks was DOA teach me not to buy RAM i am not familiar with.AMD Opteron 1212 Dual core/ASRock ALiveNF6G with a Nvidia 6100/nForce430 chipset.

Second Video Card Not Detected In Device Manager

Oct 1, 2009

My first post here and unfortunately I'm posting because I've stumbled right into some technical issues with this fresh desktop build.

First off, comp specs so we know what we're dealing with:

MOBO: ECS P55H-A Black Edition
CPU: Intel i7 860
PSU: BFG 800W
Graphics Card: POWERCOLOR AX4870 (two of them)
OS: Vista Home Premium x64

I have everything hooked up properly and can verify both PCI-E slots are working and both video cards are working as I've tested them all separately. I'm using the latest CCC and drivers available.

I initially hooked up just one card, then loaded Windows and it detected it just fine, so I installed the drivers. Everything was just fine, so I shut down and installed the second GPU and hooked it up and attached both Crossfire bridges to the two cards. Nothing I have done since will cause the card to show up. I tried removing the bridges and rebooting also to no avail.
