I am looking for a program or a windows explorer addon that will search a folder I indicate, and delete all the empty sub-folders. I am cleaning up my music folder and found out that I have over a thousand empty folders in it due to old music I had deleted. I don't want to have to go through and delete each one manually. I don't have that kind of spare time. Programmers, if you can write a plugin for this
View 4 RepliesI despair. Until recently I was running OE on Windows 98 and I regularly had problems with this same issue. I've gone onto Windows Mail with Vista and everything seem to be fine for the first month deleting mails en masse until now. I've got 299 items in my deleted folder and I can't empty it other than
by deleting one at a time.
I just discovered that my Username and Inspiron Folders are empty, with a blank folder picture as icon. When I click on either one of them I get the "Open with" scenario. Yet by right-clicking I am able to access "Properties". According to it the folders were modified on July 5 and 6 respectively and not by me, of course. Is there a way to correct this and, if so, how? Have no idea what could have caused it and can live with it, if necessary. Nothing else is effected.

still shows a number of unread items. If I close and re-open Windows Mail the figures disappear. I have looked through some recent posts and see mention of ghost messages in Deleted Items, but in my case this shows up in all mail folders. I also saw that it was asked a few times whether an anti-virus program is running, so if this is relevant I am running AVG Internet Security 7.5.
I am hoping to find an automated method for deleting the Vista Search Folders. I tried command line scripts to remove the folder (RMDIR or DELTREE), but I'm not having any luck with the search folders. I am able to delete other folders with a script (like this one): Del C:Myfolder*.*.* RMDir C:Myfolder But I cannot delete a Vista Search
Folders like this folder; C:UsersmynameSearchesEverywhere I can delete them manually, but not with a script.
Quite a while ago, I lost my Vista installation due to some errant = program and the lousy installation/removal program it had. As per Microsoft's advice, I recovered all I could off some backups and = stuck that in a directory called "Windows.old". It's a few years later now and Vista is considerably more stable. I've = had no problem whatsoever with Vista -- knock wood! Since I don't use that directory for anything at this point, having = taken everything worthwhile out of it already, I figured now was a great = time to delete it (it's taking up about 20 GB). when I go to delete it Vista tells me that files in that directory, such = as in "Windows.old/Windows" are in use. Huh? Would it be safe for me to force a delete on that directory anyway or is = this risky?

I know some of these folders serve an important purpose(like "Links", "Favorites", "Contacts", "Desktop"), but I'd like to move them somewhere
else and not have them clutter up the tree view when I'm trying to navigate around my files in Explorer.
I can move them to another physical location (using the Location tab on the properties window), but when I go back to Explorer, links to them appear as sub-folders as though they were still in my userprofile directory. This really winds me up -- I think I should be allowed to organise my own file system, without Microsoft deciding what folders I need!
when i upgraded my vista business to vista ultimate full retail, it stopped half way through, so i had to do a clean install instead. when i booted my windows and looked on the c drive there were a series of folders with strange names. i suspect this is backups from the upgrade which failed, i rescued my files i needed out of the folders, and tried to delete the ones the upgrade left behind but it wont let me. How do i delete them?

i tried to delete them (right click > delete). but when i restart my computer the folders are there again: how can i get vista to stop renewing those damn folders.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install. (RC1 - Build 5600) At first, everything was working great, then the next day I have nothing in Control Panel. From the Start Menu it says (empty) after attempting to load it for 20-ish seconds. If I click the desktop shortcut, it will load the window frame with no content, then just close after 5 seconds. In Windows Explorer I can expand the Control Panel from the sidebar, and pick from there, but just selecting Control Panel, again doesn't work. I remember this being corrupted .cpl files back in the 3.x days, same thing maybe? I ran System File Checker, didn't fix it (did find corrupted files though, oi vey).

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Dell XPS M1530 Vista SP2 all of sudden had the icon for volume/sound disabled. When I did some investigating;
- The machine seems to be working fine but it appear to be very slow, backing up my machine took for ever, sometimes it see my external disk and other times it didn't
- I received a message stating that I need to check windows latest update and I tried to install an important SP2 but it failed
- Device Manager is showing no device, it's looks completely empty
- called Dell support, they were unable to figure it out, even though I have 3 year warranty they are saying they will have to charge me for s/w support, which was never a problem before.
- I tried to do restore but it states there is no restore points
- I tried to see if I could start the Plug & Play but it gives error
- I tried to install the Audio driver from the Dell Disk and that gives errors
I have a strange problem. My documents folder doesnt show the content, although a lot of content exists. When typing a subfolders name in the addressbar, I can see the contents of this subfolder. Also in the command shell the "dir" command doesnt show me any content of the documents-folder. But I can access subdirectories via "cd subdirectory". The content of the subdirectory can be listed via "dir".
When I select "properties" after right-clicking the documents folder vista shows me the size of the folder and the number of files found. I have already tried the chkdsk...Everything worked fine until today. Has anybody got an idea what could be the reason for this strange behaviour?
The following .dll is shown as starting up the proces ?) "dzdqmgkyetrqrf":quflsiblczsu.dll. According to startup.exe, this dll is located in the syswow64 folder, but a search (including hiddens) comes up empty. I have recently been the victim of a keylogger trojan and have run 2 separate programs to remove same : Spybot & Spyware Doctor. Is this a legitimate .dll?? View 4 Replies View RelatedMy OS is Vista Home Premium(64 bit). I enjoy playing Solitaire and Chess Titans which are two of the integrated "Games". A problem has occurred. I click "Start" then "Games". The ">Games" window appears, as usual. Solitaire, Hearts, Chess Titans etc etc are shown, as usual. However, when I double click the relevant icon, instead of the game running as usual, I'm getting a new window with "Saved Games" at the top. In the main body of the window appears "Microsoft Games" folder which is empty!! I'm wondering if it's my injudicious use of a "shortcut fixer" tool in a "utility" I've been using recently that's caused this problem. how to get my nice green solitaire game (or chess etc) to show again when I double click the icon
