View 4 RepliesThe installer states that I have the wrong language or wrong language packs installed. However, no language packs are installed that I can find, and installation itself is us english, albeitly with swedish regional settings.
When I stated that no language packs are installed, this is because no language packs are listed in the program list. It might have been installed as an update, but that list contains 79 updates with absolutely no details except KB numbers, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna lookup 79 KB articles manually to see if one of them is a language pack.
As language packs were so easily installed (as an option offerered thorugh windows update, and not as stand-alone installation like it was with XP and such, I just can't believe that MS don't support language packs more fluently than this)
I have Vista ultimate right? I go to Microsoft site cause I want the Korean IME since I am korean. But, the language pack says that its not compatible. Yes I have tried SP2 compatibility mode.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI decided tonight to uninstall my spectacular Ultimate Extra Language Packs so I could install SP1... and what a shock. Am I missing something here or are you limited to just removing 1 Language at a time... taking 30+ minutes from start to finish... never mind that fact that you can select all of the languages you want to remove.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to buy notebook but I rather confused to decide whether to take the Vista Home Premium or the Ultimate. I live in Japan but I only understand a little Japanese so I also want to have my Windows in English either. Is it enough only using Vista Home Premium and install the Windows Vista Language Interface Pack (LIP) on it?
Or I have to purchase the Ultimate and install the Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) on it? I don't know anything about Vista, so I cannot guess what this feature is for. Unlike XP. So I really need it in both English and Japanese. The Japanese, I need it for some parts of my job. The prices is quite high for the Vista Ultimate so if it is possible, I will not upgrade to Ultimate.
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit SP2, US, all installed updates. Before SP2 install, Italian Language Pack used to work fine. To install SP2 I had to uninstall Language Pack. After installed SP2 had to wait for additional language packs. Now they are officially released by Microsoft so I tryed to install them. I installed France, Dutch and Lituanian language packs with NO PROBLEM. Italian language pack refuse to install. Now Event Viewer report this error: The Language Pack for it-IT has been disabled. Reason: 0x2000. Event ID: 1002.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have come across two computers in my family that fail to update to Vista SP2 with totally different error codes, and leading to different discussions on the community forums. One is a desktop and the other is a new Dell laptop. The latter gets error code 80070490. Wow this Microsoft quality control reminds me of the constant bugs I had when I was using Windows 3.0 back in the early 1990s, or the first Windows 95 release. I hope it's better in Windows 7!

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I turned Vista on today it said there was an update. So here I am installing this update that seems like an hour, only to find it did not install and it reverting back the changes. Why didn't this install? Is there a program conflict somewhere? I never had a problem like this with XP. I have my firewall off (Comodo) and really don't have much programs installed since it's just my laptop.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIve scoured the internet to find the solution to my problem and ive ran out of solutions to my problem so i though id try the proffesional and worldly wise people here at vista forums so here goes... i recently updated my vista to service pack 2 x64 which installed perfectly fine with no hangs or any visible errors. after the machine restarted one of my dvd drives was missing but it recognised the other which worked fine in burning and playing my CD/DVDs.
so i restrted my pc once more just to see if that may re-jog the system and it did both of my dvd drives were both visible so i though great no problems there. went to bed shutdown my computer. the next day i started it up as normal but noticed on the screen where its says " press del to run bios " or something like screen appeared it stayed on for a lot longer than normal i normally blink and its gone but it stayed on the screen for approx 2mins then proceeded to start up as normal. checked my computer and this time they had both vanished. ran all my virus checkers even checked the screen where you can update the drivers but nothing gone......................
So far, auto update has not downloaded SP1. Should I download manually or wait for the auto?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have the Windows Automatic Update feature turned off. Every couple of weeks I manually update and install only critical and what I deem as necessary for my machine updates. Everything went fine the end of October, updates successfully installed. I also installed the English language pack as my OS was in German. I don't think the language pack has anything to do with the problems I'm about to describe. In early November I went to do a manual update and got this screen:
it's telling me that I need to update the updater. No big deal there. But, it's also telling me that I NEVER checked for updates and updates were NEVER installed. Not true, according to the next window I've got 112 updates in installed: Anyways, I continue to update the updater. It then tells me it can't complete the job and says to restart the computer and try to update again, which I did:.........
I have two computers running Vista Home Premium. When Service Pack 1 came out, my desktop, which is a clone I built myself, downloaded and installed Service Pack 1 without any problem, but my Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop seems oblivious to Service Pack 1's existence. Although automatic update is on both computers with similar settings (full automatic update), and the laptop has downloaded a number of updates since then and keeps telling me the computer is up to date, I can't help wondering why Service Pack 1 hasn't downloaded and installed, and whether I should install it manually or just assume the computer has a good reason to not install it and leave it alone.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have numerous problems installing service pack 1 on my Dell Laptop running Vista Home Premium. I succeded in installing it first time, but when I next ran windows update and rebooted, after the logon screen I just got a black screen with the mouse pointer and nothing else. I restored from an image, did all the updates, then installed the SP1 - same problem. Now I restored image, and applied SP1 (without running windows update first) and have the same problem. No problems on my home built desktop, just the laptop. Really pissed with Vista just now.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS. I possibly want to upgrade to Windows 7 equivalent. Here's my dilemma: I installed Service Pack 1 via Windows website download manager, and after a fashion, it appeared to have installed and it rebooted my system. It clearly shows as having been installed according to Windows Update History. [Additionally, Service Pack 2 is not offered as a download, but the rest of my query, please.] HOWEVER, according to Microsoft, when I click START > right click COMPUTER, at the top of that resulting page and beneath my version of Vista it should show "Service Pack 1."
In my case, it does not! FURTHER, I downloaded and ran Windows 7 Update Advisor, the results show I need to download and install Service Pack 1. I'm aware that I can download. or order on CD, each of the Service Packs and install, starting with Service Pack 1 before attempting to install Service Pack 2. Why does Service Pack 1 show as installed in Windows Update History, but does NOT seem to be installed according to the two other instances/sources I've mentioned above?
I keep getting a message that this update is ready to install. I have installed it about 10 times, but after it is installed, I get the update icon and the same update is there ready to be installed. When I look at the installation history, it shows that it has been installed successfully. HOW do I keep this update from showing up time after time? View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently bought a new computer from acer with vista and it came with a posiblility to upgrade to win7 (http://www.acer.com/windows7upgrade), but i have a slight problem.
I need to specify which language vista is installed inn or it won't work, i figured it would be norwegian (as i am from norway), but allmost all the menus are in english as well as everything in the start menu ("Computer" instead of "Datamaskin" etc...).
I was wondering if there is an easy way to figure out which language the OS is installed in.
I have posted the question about no English language to Microsoft. Should have answer in 24 hours and will post what they say.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI live in Spain and bought my wife a laptop. She is having trouble with the language and wants to change it to English, I am a bit annoyed at having to buy an English copy of Vista. Especially after watching an MS promotion video of how they are working to cover the need of using multiple languages, why the step back in Vista then ? It is an Acer laptop and also has programs pre-loaded and a backup restore installed etc. If I buy the English vista, do I have to do a clean install to get English Vista on, or just load it as a repair, and will it need re-activating etc ? If it does need a clean install then I will lose everything that has been pre-installed and and will be an expensive experience.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had seen a similar topic at this forum before, but I can't find it. I am looking for a way allowing me to type in Chinese in this keyboard. I looked up the Vista "help" section. I am supposed to download the Language Interface Pack (LIP) first. However, when I went to the MS web site and clicked on the map that said "Asia", Chinese language was NOT on the list. The Whole Asia continent! Go figure ! The method I saw before in this forum was very different than the
"help" section.
FIXED
Simply check that CTFMON.EXE boots at startup (for all users) Or go to start/run and type CTFMON.EXE then enter.
Use the following code (copy and paste to a .REG file) if you don't know how to add manually this executable to HKLM startup.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun]
"ctfmon"="CTFMON.EXE"
I added Korean as other input language on Vista home premium system. I do see korean language bar appeared on my screen, but it won't just let me type in korean.
