Italian Language Pack Install Fail
Jul 28, 2009
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit SP2, US, all installed updates. Before SP2 install, Italian Language Pack used to work fine. To install SP2 I had to uninstall Language Pack. After installed SP2 had to wait for additional language packs. Now they are officially released by Microsoft so I tryed to install them. I installed France, Dutch and Lituanian language packs with NO PROBLEM. Italian language pack refuse to install. Now Event Viewer report this error: The Language Pack for it-IT has been disabled. Reason: 0x2000. Event ID: 1002.

The installer states that I have the wrong language or wrong language packs installed. However, no language packs are installed that I can find, and installation itself is us english, albeitly with swedish regional settings.
When I stated that no language packs are installed, this is because no language packs are listed in the program list. It might have been installed as an update, but that list contains 79 updates with absolutely no details except KB numbers, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna lookup 79 KB articles manually to see if one of them is a language pack.
As language packs were so easily installed (as an option offerered thorugh windows update, and not as stand-alone installation like it was with XP and such, I just can't believe that MS don't support language packs more fluently than this)

I decided tonight to uninstall my spectacular Ultimate Extra Language Packs so I could install SP1... and what a shock. Am I missing something here or are you limited to just removing 1 Language at a time... taking 30+ minutes from start to finish... never mind that fact that you can select all of the languages you want to remove.

I just bought a laptop that has Vista Home on it in Spanish. I know that the ultimate upgrade gives you the language pack. Will a Ultimate Vista iupgrade n English work on this computer or does it have to be a Ultimate upgrade in Spanish?

I want to buy notebook but I rather confused to decide whether to take the Vista Home Premium or the Ultimate. I live in Japan but I only understand a little Japanese so I also want to have my Windows in English either. Is it enough only using Vista Home Premium and install the Windows Vista Language Interface Pack (LIP) on it?
Or I have to purchase the Ultimate and install the Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) on it? I don't know anything about Vista, so I cannot guess what this feature is for. Unlike XP. So I really need it in both English and Japanese. The Japanese, I need it for some parts of my job. The prices is quite high for the Vista Ultimate so if it is possible, I will not upgrade to Ultimate.

I live in Spain and bought my wife a laptop. She is having trouble with the language and wants to change it to English, I am a bit annoyed at having to buy an English copy of Vista. Especially after watching an MS promotion video of how they are working to cover the need of using multiple languages, why the step back in Vista then ? It is an Acer laptop and also has programs pre-loaded and a backup restore installed etc. If I buy the English vista, do I have to do a clean install to get English Vista on, or just load it as a repair, and will it need re-activating etc ? If it does need a clean install then I will lose everything that has been pre-installed and and will be an expensive experience.

I have Vista 64 Home Prem verson, and I had a hard time to install WMDC 6.1 to my computer. When I installed this software, it said fail to install. Then told me to go to C:windowsMobile center and run setup from here. I did what it told me, but I can't get it to install. After this failure installation, I saw Windows Mobile Device Center from Start Program. I cliked on it, and it tried to install the WMDC again, then gave me the same error message. I spend hours and hours to google, but I can't find solution.

I began the installation of vista sp2 and received a pop up box instructing me that I had unsupported languages installed. I go to control panel: regional and language options -keyboard and languages-install/uninstall languages remove languages Currently, there are 17 languages (besides my default, English)that need to be uninstalled. I've attempted to uninstall them at once and vista processes each language and says that it fails on all but one language. If I uninstall them individually each language takes the hour and 1/2 to uninstall and I cannot afford to sit with it while it does each one. Can this be done via command line or by script. IF it can, what would the commands be?

A friend's Vista SP1 PC is failing to install Windows Updates and also some other updates such as those for Itunes. The symptom is that the updates get downloaded but the installation phase never finishes (he's left it for 12 hours!). In the case of the Windows Updates, there are several updates that try to install themselves as the PC is shutdown or even restarted, but the message "Installing 1 of 6" never advances: the only recourse is to switch the PC off.
As I was looking at the PC, I noticed one thing which may have a bearing on this and may even be the cause: the System Restore applet (windowssystem32 strui.exe) fails to run. It displays an initial User Account Control window but the "Restore System Files and Settings - choose a restore point" window never appears. No error message is displayed and there are no entries in any of the Event Log logs.
It occurred to me that if System Restore is buggered, this might prevent any updates working if the first thing they try to do is to create a restore point before installation begins. I can't find any reference to System Restore failing to open its initial Window - I've looked on support.microsoft.com and done a general Google search for "Vista System Restore fails". All the info seems to describe possible problems if you get slightly further and select a restore point which then fails to install properly.

After being prompted that new Windows updates are available, I have attempted twice to install Service Pack 2 but get the error message" Service Pack did not install. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer." I already have SP1 installed on my HP Pavillion 32 bit OS with Windows Vista Home Premium. Please advise if this is a known problem and a possible fix.

If I'm not having any problems with Vista do I need to install the new service pack? My computer came with it preinstalled and I have no CD or backup. I've tried several times to install it but keep getting error 8007371C. I went to the manufacture and they said I need to do what sounds to me like to a destructive recovery then install SP1. I see where a lot of people are having problems with the new service pack. I guess what I'm asking is will I be buying myself a headache if I install it?

Reason for wanting to install service pack 1 : The Problem: My windows Update tells me there are no more important updates only optional ones. I checked the optional updates and there is nothing in there that has to do with service pack 1. So i downloaded "Windows6.0-KB936330-X86-wave0.exe" that installs service pack 1 Execute it and it starts out all fine as if it was working. After a while this shows up. I've Checked with the microsoft site and tried closing programs, restarting then running it as soon vista starts, but nothing.

I've tried five times to install SP2, but still get the error message"Service Pack did not install.Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer." I've tried to install SP 2 with the downloaded package in addition to Windows Update and also downloaded the cleanup tool. I've disabled my Norton antivirus program and still SP2 will not install. I already have SP1 installed on my HP Pavillion 32 bit OS with Windows Vista Home Premium. Do I really need to install SP2.

I had two failed SP1 installs; got to 100% then said "Service Pack did not install. reverting changes" - that was from Windows Update, second attempt was from a manual download of the all languages file (the failure message was slightly different - it was "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes".) OK so far. Now update says I should have KB938371 (which MS say fixes SP1 install problems). I click ok and it reboots and hey presto - Vista suicide! PC won't boot. The problem was a missing winload.exe with error 0x00000f (IIRC). Luckily I have Linux installed (bless Linus Torvalds), so I download your iso, boot that and try the repair function. Doesn't work - says "Disk corrupt". Also no copy of Vista is found so can't go back to a restore point (probably because one of my Linux partitions is the active one which runs a boot manager). After a few attempts with this and that I try this, and it works. Open a dos command prompt and type copy x:windowssystem32Bootwinload.exe c:windowssystem32winload.exe Corrupt disk, eh? And now my vista works fine, although it still don't have KB938371 (haven't tried it again yet) and SP1 is not installed. What a mess. M$ one of the richest companies on the planet, should be ashamed of this.

Vista Service pack 2 won't install on hubbies laptop. (Vista Home Premium 32-bit) I have tried 3 times, rebooting after each attempt. An error pops up saying: "C:Windowssystem32sqmapi.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system Administrator or Software Vendor for support." The error code is C0000020 and on the heading bar is says "SPCLITE.EXE - Bad Image. We have no idea what program or what .dll it is talking about. I am running Malwarebytes on his computer at the moment to see if anything comes up regarding that.

Half an hour ago I downloaded and installed a bunch of security updates.
Then, in a effort to solve a monitor profile dumping problem that I'm having, I turned off Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. (I've written about this on another thread and, no, it didn't solve the problem)
Anyway, I then went to check my Update History to see if a certain update had been installed.
While there, I noticed that there were new updates available, namely, Service Pack 2.
All 567.3Mb of it are downloading as I speak - hopefully, Microsoft have solved this profiling cockup.
I note that the publication date for SP2 is 14/7/2009.
Why has it taken this long to appear in my available updates window?

I've read that Vista doesn't like when Nvidia chipset mainboards have 4 or more gigs of RAM, and I have found the answer more often than not is that I am directed to install Service pack 1. I have tried three times to install SP1, twice through Windows updater, once through the Standalone updater.
When the Windows updater finishes downloading and installing, then tells me to reboot it goes to the configuring updates screen step 1 of 3 and gives me a percentage.................

unable to install Service pack 2 on her Vista Home computer it says it can not install and is removing files. It even did the same after I took over a downloaded version and copied it on to her computer. Have also tried the program that you use from Windows site (windows6.0KB947821-v5x86) to prepare for the installation of SP 2 but even that will not install.

Windows Update has tried on numerous occiasions to install Service pack 1 but it fails every time. I went to the vista site and downloaded it on the stand alone link. It downloaded and got half way through installation and it said there was an error. Unfortunately I didnt write down the error code. Why wont it install? Does anyone know? I havent bothered too much about it til now but I wanted to install a 3 broadband dongle modem yesterday and it wont install and I am wondering if the service pack not being on there is causing that.

I have two computers running Vista Business. I have them both set up to tell me about updates but not to automatically install them. So, why is one computer telling me that Service Pack 1 is available but the other is not?
In fact, on the one that not telling me SP1 is available, I told it to check for updates and it still did not tell me about SP1 (it said that everything is all up to date). Is there some legitimate reason for this or is this just normal operating procedure? And, BTW, I'm very hesitant to install SP1 of either computer.

I did a new install with vista business. 'upgrade' . The reason for this was a new hard drive. I couldn't -then- see the point of installing xp then vista then start the long hard migration process. I was told of a work around, so I did. Now I'm getting 'activation' notices which when I try I get "this is an upgrade pack not a clean install" failed Now I have XP disks/codes here which are genuine -can I phone MS and would they allow me to quote a XP product key rather than having to go through the whole process again? All software legit and above board - can send pics to prove ;-)
