I have the problem with the system fully updated, and after a base install with no updates. The problem started 3 days ago and have had the PC for 2 years without this problem. I have not added anything to the install recently that would cause this problem. I have done automatic updates from Microsoft, but as stated above, problem persists from base install to fully updated. Problem persists in safe mode.
I have edited the registry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services i8042prt Enum" and set the value of INITSTARTFAIED from 1 (enabled) to 4 (restricted). Sadly this did not fix the problem. I tried this in response to Event ID 7026..........
Using Vista Home Premium 32-Bit. I have installed Microsoft 2007 Power Point Viewer. When I select it in File Association to open .pps files and then try to open a .pps file the association reverts back to the Microsoft Office Power Point Point selection. I have uninstalled the Microsoft Office Group to get away from the on screen nagging to purchase it so now I am unable to select any Power Point program that works. The system always reverts to an association that no longer exists.
View 5 Replies View RelatedOn installation of Vista on my Lenovo Laptop the homepage in IE was set to Lenovo, I have changed this to BBC/NEWS and set this to be the only homepage I want. However at least 2-3 times each day it reverts back to Lenovo homeppage, I then have to reset it back to BBC/News.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi'm kinda desperate atm. My laptop has this annoying habit of reverting back to windows standard/classic theme after almost every restart. I said almost as after 2/3 and sometimes even more, my aero theme correctly appeared. After another restart right after that, the problem occurs all over again. The search function in the start menu and windows explorer also 'failed to initialize' when in the said windows standard/classic mode.
I figured that this might have something to do with my user profile as I have the 'User Profile Service service failed the login. User profile cannot be loaded' problem once very recently but I've fixed it using the tutorial in this forum. The windows standard/classic theme problem had been on for quite a while back, before the user profile problem. Before all this happened, I've had this 'C:WindowsSystem32configsystemprofileDesktop refers to a location that is unavailable...' problem. I fixed that by copying all my files and folders in my C:Users[Username] folder to the location above and replacing all the files including desktop.ini. It is only after this that I've had the windows standard/classic theme problem.
I couldn't help but wonder if somehow my user profile has got something to do with it? Windows system restore could not fix this problem. By the way, I'm using a modified aero theme at the moment, using TuneUp Utilities 2009 on a Vista Home Premium 32bit Acer 5920G laptop.
I have recently purchsed a Dell Studio 15 Laptop, with Vista Home Premium x64.
Great machine, and really excellent performance.
BUT - I have noticed that when typing within Internet Explorer (Forums, Newsgroups, socila networking), the typing is delayed so badly, that it actually skips a load of the letters.
I have searched online for known issues, and the only real solutions that I found were to remove "pcmservice.exe" - which is not resident on my machine, or to switch to another browser.
I have rolled back IE to v7, but still have the problem. I tried updating again to IE8 and any updates, but same issue exists.
Everytime I try to type emails or anything else for that matter things keep popping up, form for email, im forms etc. and many times emails get sent before I'm ready. Don't know what causes this to happen - some sort of speed keys - I don't need this or want it. I just want to type without interference of any kind. How do I deactivate this pain in the %%,%? Things were popping up as I typed this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedRunning Vista Home Premium on a Dell M1730. in the last week or so I have been having an issue with typing on the keyboard... this also affects the system while gaming
If I am in notepad/email client/here typing this now... as I type, the characters appear normally as you would expect, then every 10 seconds or so stop being displayed on the screen... that lasts for a few seconds then everything I have typed in the lag period comes up on the screen. In a gaming situation, same timing and the keys will either intermittently not respond or will "sitck" for few seconds.
I have uninstalled the Norton Security package but not sure where to go with this now.
I purchased a new Dell laptop with inbuilt Vista 32 bit. When ever I type emails in web based like hotmail and yahoo, my keyboard cursor goes very slow. It is really very slow and I have to type the matter in word and then cut and past it. I restart the system but same in both hotmail and yahoo. My laptop is updated as of date for wndows and all requred drivers. I am using McAfee AntiVirus software.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am real curious if this happens to anyone else using WM? We are all familiar with the solitaire card game FreeCell that comes with Windows. I opened a new email, have my size at 600 x 460. Typed the word "FreeCell" into the subject line. Instantly, the email changes in size. 602 x 272. Do not have to click mouse or anything, does it on its own.
View 5 Replies View Relatedannoying recent development after composing an email, if I go back /click / move cursor to insert a word or a punctuation (NOT highlighting anything), often (but now always) the new word I am entering "gobbles" the text already written that follows on that line, letter by letter, space by space, character by character. If I type in a 5 letter word, the next five letters or spaces disappear; a seven letter word with a comma at the end will "gobble up" the next 8 characters. Is there some option or keystroke that causes this, or can stop this from happening?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn the middle of typing something the cursor will randomly click on whatever it's hovering over, be it a link, text further up in the field, or even my desktop wallpaper. I've called a friend with Vista and he has the same problem. I have no idea how to correct this since I'm a XP person
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've never done this before... so you will all have to bare with me. But I have noticed that everytime I use Internet Explorer, it skips letters as I'm typing. I have to type slow and really pay attention to get everything I am trying to type. I'm not really sure why this happened. It worked great for a while and then all of a sudden one day it would skip letters as I was typing.

We have two Sony Vaio laptops in my house and this has happened with both of them. When I type the little flashing line moves to random places and the typing continues from there. Not only that, sometimes when I type passages get highlighted or deleted, or the page simply changes for no reason. Why did this happen and how can i fix it? D:
I posted this on Yahoo Answers and the response was
"
this is common and one of the reasons people hate vista, however its easy to fix.
go to control panel >mouse and other (or printers and other) >Mouse > Touchpad Tab >move the slider back a bit so its not so sensitive.
When the Touchpad is super sensitive weird things happen when your hands are nearby.
But I don't have a touchpad tab option that allows me to do that.
ive been having problems with the tilde key on my Asus laptop. at first it was that it didint work at all, in games, in microsoft works, or notepad. i went searching online and disabled the driver for the eHome ir receiver (even though i dont own an ir receivers). after that i was able to use the tild key only outside of games. but heres the strange part, if i press the tild key quickly as if i were typing normaly, it dose not register. in order to use it i have to hold down the tilde key for about 1-2 seconds before it would spit out a stream of "````````````". then i could delete up to the first one. this is true for the laptops keyboard, and a wired dell keyboard i connected using usb.........
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer has started shutting off randomly within 5 mins of startup. By shutting off, I mean it just turns off...no BSOD, no errors, just turns off...at random intervals that are usually within five mins. I updated my display drivers a few days ago, and they're currently at the highest version, but it's been a few days, and this just started this morning. It seems to be fine in safe mode (which I'm in now to post this)...which leads me to think it is, in fact, display drivers...but they're up to date, I have no solution there...now what?

I have a computer running Vista Ultimate w/ all the latest updates (including SP1) and latest drivers/bios from the manufacturer and my computer looks like it is rebooting randomly in the middle of the night. I noticed I leave it on all the time and my apps are closed. When I look in the event log, it says: The previous system shutdown at 4:02:19 AM on 5/13/2008 was unexpected. I also checked if there are any memory dumps and there aren't any. I'm stumpted why this is happening if this is due to a hardware failure or a software/driver crash related issue.
Ok, my friend asked me a few days ago to help him fix his router. Its a Belkin N1.
It keeps knocking of at random times every few minutes. I have tried everything I know to solve the problem but nothing seems to work. He can connect to his neighbours internet and it stays connected but when he connects to his own it goes offline after a few mins.
I am trying to run 4gigs of ram and my pc keeps freezing up randomly... when i have just 2gigs installed it runs smooth... i am running vista premium x64 --- and i have SP 1 installed...
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was sitting there and my computer just shut off randomly. I got a message saying something like windows needs to be repaired or something so I clicked the button to repair it. I go downstairs and watch a movie, and then I come back up and I see a black screen with the mouse pointer doing the loading animation. So I leave it for about 2 more hours and still nothing happens, I turn it off manually.
Now I have to create a new user account, but I cant because it shuts off after about 1 or 2 minutes of running. I finally got that done and when I click on my user account to start up it shuts off after about 30 seconds on the desktop. The only way it will run is if it is in safe mode. I am even on it now writing this message. It runs great in safe mode... what do I do? I don't have a Vista disk anymore...
I have an issue wherein Vista (Ultimate 64-bit) Will freeze up completely forcing me to reset / reboot. This has occurred a few days after I put the computer together and installed all the software. It does not happen reliably. The first two times it happened, I was using Firefox in a window, in front of a video game (in windowed mode). This does not happen every time I do that, and has not happened from doing that in about a week.
The problem recently resurfaced in a more reliable fashion while using the Play-On media server software to stream Hulu to my Xbox. The computer froze after about 5 minutes of doing this, and then after about 8 minutes of doing this. I re-installed the most recent network driver, and tried switching ethernet ports. Next time it happened after about 10 minutes, twice in a row. So this is a very reliable circumstance to cause the freeze..........
My Vista x64 PC is randomly powering off. MSI Neo4 Diamond MB, AMD athlon 64 X2 4200+ CPU, 2G ddr2-800 ram, 1TB and 500GB SATA drives, ATI Radeon HD4350 video card. started a couple months ago. either you get into Vista and are working and suddenly pow... it goes off like pulling the power cord. sometimes it will do it right before the screen gives you the login to Vista..Thought it was a power issue and upgraded a 500W supply to a 750W modular unit. No change... have completely disassembled the unit, cleaned everything, cleaned the CPU/heatsink and put new Arctic silver in.
I can sit in bios all day watching the hardware monitor and the CPU never get's over about 30-31 Degrees C. Voltages are good and steady. as soon as it's booted to Vista, it starts... even sitting idle it will do it. I have Windows XP and Windows 7 RC on the 500G drive. if I boot to either of those OS's, it will run for days without ANY issues... it is ONLY vista that has the issue. I thought it may have been the drive, so I made an image and restored it to the 500GB drive, then removed the 1TB drive from the system... Same issues.
I'm having a problem with my system. It randomly freezes, I have no idea why and most times its when I'm doing something differently. Its freezed during 2 different games, during a burning of a cd, and even while trying to get into the favorites menu on internet exlorer.. I tried looking in the event viewer for the system but not sure what I need to look for. I have no viruses according to Nod32. I have Vista Ultimate running on amd 3700, 1 gb ram, 75gb hard drive, geforce 8800 gts graphics card, ecs motherboard and a dvd burner. Here is a HiJackThis log................
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Business x64 SP1. I'm having a problem where programs will suddenly be gone from my system. I used to think this only happened when booting up, but I have noticed that the programs can disappear even when Vista's been running for a while. Here are some of the programs that disappear: SQL Server Management Studio, Java, Logitech SetPoint x64, Firefox, SQLNCLI, Lexmark printer drivers, Visual SVN (A Visual Studio 2008 plugin). The weird thing is, not all of the program's files will be gone. For instance, the folders will still be there and some of the files will be too, but some of the files necessary for the program to run will be gone.
Some times, but not all, when I boot my computer the ethernet port will not work. If I plug the cable into my other ethernet port, I will get internet, but not through the first one. If I reboot the system, I'll get a connection through the port. If I try to Disable and re-enable the port, windows will run up one of the processors and the system will be unresponsive for a while. After 5-10 minutes, it will finish, but it is then not possible to re-enable the port. I've had a problem with SetPoint disappearing before SP1, but only noticed the other programs disappearing recently.
