Aug 31, 2009

When I run appwiz.cpl and look at the list, I see Java Update 7 and Java Update 13, can I uninstall Java Update 7? IIRC old Java updates are supposed to be uninstalled for security purposes but I'm not sure...

Safe Mode And Tried To Uninstall

Dec 13, 2008

turns out that most likely the culprit for my computer acting different is because of Microsoft Office. The problem I have is with not being able to get microsoft updates, open control panel, etc. I went into safe mode and tried to uninstall, but it would not let me. So I cold deleted from the program files folder. However, now that I'm in regular mode, my computer is still acting like before. How do I resolve this?..

Restarted In Safe Mode To Uninstall And Reinstall

Nov 22, 2008

At the moment I have no Office because I was advised when Word 2003 would crash on start and have to be restarted in safe mode to uninstall and reinstall it. Now I can't get it loaded at all. My very expensice IT guy spent 2 hours and gave up the HP people (this is a brand new laptop) said Vista isn't compatible with Office Pro 2000 which we upgraded from...I have 8 computers running 2003...The other issue is that when I click on a message in hotmail it crashes. No message, just a freeze. What a hassle - I have no Outlook because of problem 1 and no hotmail because of problem 2. Wish I'd been warned... I guess I really was - all those HP machines with extra cost to be 'downgraded' to XP.

Stuck In A Loop After Updates, Can't Get Into Windows OR Safe-mode

Aug 9, 2008

I believe I have a (Vista Ultimate x64 RC-1? Already has SP1) cd. I can install it fine. I can then install the correct drivers for my hardware. And all works well, until... I use windows updates and select the 'important' only updates. After that, I'm stuck in a boot-loop. And by boot-loop, I mean I can't get into windows OR safe-mode. I have done this 2 times so far. It definitely only happens when I run the updates (can work perfectly fine for days w/o the updates). It's like I'm just now allowed to have an updated version of Vista. I made a restore point prior to the updates, so I can get back to where I was, but I obviously can't run an outdated OS all the time.

How To Uninstall Optional Updates?

Mar 30, 2008

When I went to "Installed Updates" ( not update history ), I couldn't find optional updates that I had installed, i.e. MS Silverlight 1.0 (KB946609). All I saw were those downloaded automatically. So, how do I uninstall the optionals when I need to ? That Silverlight is a little intrusive. I had to do a system restore to get rid of it.

Java And No Java 32bit And 64bit

Aug 24, 2009

I installed java for the 64 bits version of vista on vista home premium 64 bits.

No problem so it seems.

But the 32 bit ie is complaining about no java installed.

Should I install 32 bits java as well.

Some applications are complaining about no java if I by accident browse with ie8 32 bits iso 64 bits.

64 bits version is installed and working fine.

But for some sites you need flash and java.

Flash seems not to be available yet for 64 bits and so I have to turn to 32 bits.

But 2 java versions on one machine?

Uninstall Call Of Duty Other Than Through Putting In The Disk And Pressing UNINSTALL Or In The 'All Programs'

May 5, 2008

can you tell me a way to uninstall Call of Duty other than through putting in the disk and pressing UNINSTALL or in the 'All Programs'? Because it just won't uninstall there: I press install and the window simply closes and nothing else. I am asking this because I have found some patches on the Activision website (now I can get on it again) and I wan't to reinstall it...

Program Wont Uninstall It With Uninstall Or Install Cleanup Utility

Nov 20, 2008

I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.

When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.

'uninstall' Button Disappeared, Can Not Uninstall Program

May 27, 2008

Somehow the 'uninstall' button disappeared for most programs on my Vista Home Premium box when I used Control Pannel -> Programs -> Uninstall a Program. A few programs still have 'uninstall' button available - those have 'installed on' showing. The rest (80+% of all)don't have 'installed on' values showing and don't have 'uninstall' button.

No Screen For Previous Restore Pts

May 12, 2008

I should have an option to choose a previous restore point on the System Restore screen but I don't. I also have only one choice of a restore point: today, which is useless. I've read so many of the threads but can't find the solution. I'm running Vista Home Ediition, I have 220g hard drive with lots of room to spare. I don't dual boot with XP, I have not changed the defaults for space allocated to System Restore. I'm baffled and I'm grateful.

Unable To Access Files From Previous OS

Jan 13, 2010

I own a Toshiba Qosmio x300(running on Vista home premium x64) and recently my oldest laptop, HP (windows XP pro x32), died from overheating.

Lucky for me, the hdd is still alive as I have some VERY important files on it (Work related)

The problem is that I cannot retrieve them:

here's exactly what I did:

I inserted my HP's hdd into my Toshiba.

(tried booting from XP but could not start windows since it seems to crash after the loading screen with the XP logo) (Also tried booting in safe mode, but same result)

So, I booted successfully from vista.

when I try to access the "My Documents" folder of the windows XP administrator account from windows vista, it says: Access denied.

I tried also making an administrator account from vista(exact name, case sensitive and same password) hoping to achieve success but no such luck.. I tried various software unlockers but none of them worked.

Adding RAID To Previous Install

Oct 11, 2008

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 on a 75 gig drive (way too small). Is it possible to setup a additional 2 drives in a RAID 1 array in addition to this drive? Or do I need to do a fresh install of Vista to recongize the drive(s)?

Second, if I can do the first, without needed a fresh install, why does it crash at crcdisk.sys when I enable the SATA ROM BOOT so the RAID can be done? I'm using ASUS A8R-MVP mother board. It has the newest version of the bios already installed on it (version 6003). I've tried to update the ULi RAID drivers, but I'm not having any luck. When I use the ULi RAID tool on boot-up, it says I'm using V1.1D M5288. I grabed the ULi drivers from NVidia (ULi integrated 220 bundle) and it won't install. I used WinRar to open it up and I grabbed everything out of the SATAM5288 directory and booted from my Vista DVD and tried to load those drivers, it fails.

Java For IE8 Vista 32 Bit Os

Oct 23, 2009

Trying to use the web without Java is like trying to swim with a anchor.I have some problems with getting to use pogo games (I've checked their site for help...refer to anchor comment above) and nothing. I've gone to Java site and same results. I've done a web search and same results. Here is problem. I can log into pogo ok and then select game and get the "you need java" msg.I have java. Version 6 update 16. I have IE8 on a vista 32bit os. Java says to make sure java is enabled for internet explorer in java control panel.I go to java control panel, advanced tab, default for java browsers and the entry for microsoft internet explorer is greyed out, but box does show a check mark. This doesn't seem normal to me. I should beable to check and uncheck that box. I think that java control panel is not seeing IE8, therefore, nada on the pogo. see attached screen shot.

New Java Not Installaled

Jul 10, 2008

This morning, the Java Updater showed the Version 6 Update 7 is available. I tried to install it on-line through Firefox 3. The installer got to the point where it stated "Extracting Installer," whereupon it basically stopped doing anything. I let it run for perhaps fifteen minutes to no avail. Process Explorer showed that zipper.exe was running, Comodo Firewall had asked for permissions for zipper.exe to do things, which I allowed, but nothing was installed, other than the files which the Java installer downloaded. I killed the zipper.exe process, downloaded the off-line Java installer, had the same problem as with the on-line version.

Following Java's on-line instructions, I turned off the firewall (after turning off the modem), killed Avast!, removed all immunizations in Spybot, turned off SuperAntiSpyware, reran the off-line installer, same problem. Java said to remove older versions and try again; removed Update 6; all that did was to leave me with no Java, as 7 still would not install. Per Java's instructions, ran the MS Windows Installer Cleanup program; Java not listed there, nor does it show in Control Panel.....................

6 Important Updates As Of 03.12.2010, Hide The Updates

Mar 11, 2010

Desktop PC will be one year next month. I did not renew the Microsoft Office after trial period that came as a package w/ no future intention of acquiring it. I'm using the free Open Office program - word processing mostly at this time. Is there anything in the list below that is of importance? I only have a basic PC with DVD player for movies, etc. No scanner, printer or fax. Not even external hard drive or usb flash drive. Otherwise, I understand that I can just choose to hide the updates, so it will not keep reminding me. Also, I choose to keep my OS w/ Srvce pk 1 and MS IE version 7 for as long as I'll be able to. I had too many probs with Srvce pk 2 and MS IE version 8. Your opinion, if any, is welcome.......
