Could anyone tell me why some of my desk top and menu icons have changed from the originals to just blank pieces of paper? Only some of my icons have changed such as my Internet Explorer, Firefox, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, etc. but not all. I have tried to change the icons through the properties menu but do not see the original icon available as an option and could not locate it in the system files anywhere. I have researched somewhat online and found threads in other forums that indicate the IconCache.db needs to be either deleted or rebuilt but at the same time found comments to both fixes that say neither one really works.
I did try to follow one of these instructions just to see if I could locate this cache file but could not find it in my UserAppDataLocal file they indicate it should be in. I am far from being a computer tech type so I've been unable to figure this out and apparently need some expert assistance! Does anyone know of an easy fix to my problem that does work?
I noticed that the past few days that when I boot up my computer my icons appear and then all flash to white pieces of paper once then go back to normal. I was wondering what was causing this, and is it normal?
This is something that has kind of annoyed me for a while now and can't figure out how to fix. When I manually change the default program for a file type, like I have set my PDFs to open with eCopy Desktop, the icon for each PDF shows up as a paper icon with the eCopy icon contained within. It should just show the eCopy icon. I have noticed this whenever I change the default program for a file type. Is there anyway to get these to show the application icon only, not contained within a paper icon?
all my desktop icons got suddenly changed to internet explorer icons, after (i opened some program in the internet,) then i did some personalisation then it changed to my adobe photoshop icon, all the desktop icons now shows the adobe,,icons.like all my programs which was earlier like (yahoo msngr, msn mesengr, windows vista programs, almost all other programs) and my internet wireless stopped working. i have a vista home premium 32. and my comp is asus f3t series. i was trying to do the icon cache, but couldnt find. tried restarting but couldnt solve.now trying to run my antivirus scan Mcafee. if anybody knows the solution to restore my earlier icons.
All of my picture icons were changed to standard-generic icons when I had my computer restored to the factory direct setting. Now they don't display anything except a flower, house, ect. My question is: How do I change the picture icon setting back so I can see a tiny preview thingy for each icon, instead of having to click on each one to see what they really are?
First you'd have to activate your roll of toilet paper. Then you'd need to validated it. Of course the license will state that you can only use your roll of toilet paper on the first ass it was used on. If your roll of toilet paper was installed on an older toilet paper dispenser, it won't work, or work so slow that you have to sh*t again by the time you've pulled out enough toilet paper.
The toilet paper would of course be full of bugs and nonfunctional for a lot of people until the first Service Pack, that is if they can install it at all because there are no drivers for your older TP dispensers. But of course, because the original installation is so screwed up, SP1 will fail, and they just have an unusable roll of TP.
So MS would make a easy thing into a chore, and many users will just switch to using a shower to wipe their ass, as that is now easier, or they'll want to install the old XP version of TP that works both faster and easier. On the bright side, public restrooms could be converted in bath houses for Republicans & Fundamentalist Christians.
1. Windows Vista Home Premium wanted me to update so I did. 2. Update changed my desktop giving me new icons and a new wallpaper. But my files in My Pictures and My Documents were missing. 3. I used the Start Search to locate them and cut-pasted them into the My Pictures and My Documents folders in the new interface. 4. I shutdown my computer after I was done using it. 5. I turned on my computer again and Windows reverted back to the older (pre-update) interface. 6. I checked and to my luck the My Pictures and My Documents folders were empty again........
None of my shorcuts ANYWHERE are working. Okay, like three of them are. The stuff is all still there...programs, music...etc. I just can't access it. Example. I click on an .Mp3 and it says : This file does not have a program associated with it for preforming this action. create an association in the Set Associations control panel.
But yet somehow I'm able to open my browser because theres a link, that by some miracle still works. All of my taskbar icons work... but none of the quick launch, Desktop, Start menu etc. I try and go into program files...I can see the pictures there for the icons...I click them and still nothing happens. I tried to re-install one and it doesn't work...No new shortcuts work either...
I've scanned with AVG, SpyBot, and MalwareBytes. I believe my problem is a toolbar that I accidentally downloaded along with a program. the toolbar is MyWebSearch. I can't uninstall it. it'll say it uninstalls it. but then it's still there. I've also tried deleting the icon cache...but my icon cache isn't there...
I have got a nasty bug on my vista laptop. I have tried just about everything to clean it up but with no luck. When the bug hits, it turns off the shell extension on AVG, disables all the shortcuts on my desktop. ( Turns the icons to a blank page as well as not letting them execute) When I click on the start menu all the "most used" programs are gone. It also disable the shut down option arrow from the start menu. I have avast, AVG, SypBot, SuperAntiSpyware, Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and Hijackthis all have found problems but have not fixed the major issue.
Having trouble properly viewing XLS files in the Spread Sheet form of Microsoft Works. A calendar appears in irregular pieces and the message informs me that the task cannot be completed successfully (the exact wording escapes my memory). Is there a way to correct that?
When I open a folder of files anywhere in Vista Ultimate, the file icons appear all white (blank) with the file name underneath. If I switch the View to medium or extra large file icons they appear normal and when I switch the view back to large, they again appear normal. However, after a few minutes, when I open the same folder, they are again all white (blank).
I have a new printer that prints 13x19 inch photos. I would like to buy some plain non-photo paper to practice with before I use the actual photo paper. I can't find any plain paper in that size at my computer or office stores.
I have Vista x64 and a HP DeskJet 820Cxi. Vista x64 has the driver for the printer in his database. I installed the driver and used the printer. But the printer only pulls the paper to the paper beginning in the printer. And nothing else happens. Thats all with the printer.
On my elderly friends' computer, when they go to "page setup" in WordPad that came with Vista, the only two options there are "4X6" and "automatic". This narrows the printable area a lot. The margins will not adjust. They asked me if I can fix it, I said I was not sure, need to ask around. Sounds like a registry problem. Is there a fix? What needs to be done? This is the first time they tried to use Word Pad, and no restore points to go back to, would not know where to go back to anyway or when the problem started. It's a Christmas gift PC.
The paper clip ikon shows when there is not any attachment. I understand that this is caused by using AVG Free to scan the incoming e-mail. Does anyone know if I upgrade to the full paid version of AVG will this be corrected? I have Vista 64 home premium and explorer for e-mail.
I am using an Epson Lq-300+ dot matrix printer in Windows Vista. I am trying to print bills sized 12in by 6in. I added the custom paper size in the print server and it is saved correctly, however, when I try to print, the print properties dialog does not show the paper size. In fact, there are many paper sizes in the print manager that do not show up in the list of available paper sizes.
I am running Windows Vista Home premium 64bit with 8gb ram and an hp c309a printer. My problem is that vista take a long time to print even just a 1 word paper using notepad. Also when i right click the printer in the printer folder it also take time to open the properties, aprox 3 minutes. So if i try to print it takes 3 minutes just to open the tab to click print and to select the printer i wish to use. The c309a is connected by usb cable, and i have tried re-installing the latest drivers and firmware for the printer as well as different usb cables and each of my usb ports. Yet for some reason there is a long 3+ minute pause when trying to print. I have also tried using the network feature and I still have same trouble. Also i have checked to make sure print spooling is on in services. HP has a utility to check for issues for both network and for usb, and the printer passes each test fine. I have done so many full uninstalls and installing of the software as well as the cable changes it is driving me nuts. I have been google'ing for days and days and have had no luck in fixing this issue. One last comment every time i try to print the applications I am using freeze for the 3+ minutes and the window application shows "application not responding", but after 3+ minutes i can finally select the printer and hit print, then at that point it freezes again for about 2 minutes and then prints. I have run multiple virus scans and multiple spyware detection programs and have also run online virus scans using bitdefend and trendmicro as well and i have no virus or spyware. I have also ran "hijackThis" and been told my system appears clean.
im unable to burn music from my laptop, i have vista basic and until now ive had no problems. I insert a blank cd and it auto loads, then it asks to format before continueing, i click yes, it formats then right at the end it says unable to finish formatting and opens the cd. I then try to burn onto it and the cd stays blank.
I deal with megatons of PDF docs e.g. datahseets, manuals, etc. It's mostly text. As I've been doing computers for decades & health is my priority, not something in "background" I have SUPER healthy environment such as all-black background, silver-colored fonts, no distractions/graphics, brightness at zero, contrast at comfortably low setting which is in hardware + nVidia videodriver, my graphics is 512MB nVidia GeForceMobile. It's too long to explain but everything is as good as it gets.
The bright ideas don't arrive into your head in the office, in bright light while a bunch of people swarm around, you can hear peeing in the toilet, PHONES, etc. I use earplugs 34NRR rating, blue things that far exceed so-called noise reduction headphones (which are a ripoff).
Do you kno whwere bright ideas get born? In a park, woods, the bench, MY CAR - the best, I sit alone in total silence, no cellphones, no dorks of my neighborhood - I just drive out to s State/National Park and that's where I work on complex problems. I need all these PDF's with me. Printing is not an option you obviously understand. One Datasheet for Microchip PIC18F4420 is 421 pages, and I need like a dozen of things of this sort with me.
I've been trying to burn an audio CD on my computer (i've only had this computer for a few months and this is the first time I've tried burning any kind of disc), and when I put the CD in and hit burn it says that my cd is not blank, I tried a handful of blank cds and it spit them all back out at me saying it's not blank. Just to make sure, I opened my computer and looked at the disc there and it WAS blank, so I don't know what to do.
Desktop icons overwritten. After a recent automatic update it appears my desktop icons have two icons on top of each other. Visible on top is the "default" icon and slightly visible underneath is the original icon. I use Firefox and Vista Ultimate 32.
A Vista SP1 Home Premium problem - 9 live icons covering 9 dead icons: Several days ago I had a desktop with 9 live, working icons at the bottom of the desktop. ie: recycle bin, computer, network, control panel, etc. The 9th icon was a folder called 'powershell'.
Several days ago I deleted the 'powershell' folder, and, underneath that folder, was surprised to find a dead copy of the 'powershell' folder. The deleted 'powershell' folder was in the recycle bin, and an undeleted dead copy on the desktop. This dead copy cannot be accessed with selection, left-click, or right-click operations - so the 'Properties' info cannot be displayed.........
I've been using Windows Vista Premium for over a year now. So far I've no problems with it yet. However, just recently, I noticed that the icons for the computer and recycle bin were gone. Futhermore, the icon for some of the folders on my computer were either blank or a icon of the computer. Some files (ranging from the .dll to .exe) were changed to the computer icon as well. The icons for the floppy drive and my usb also disappeared and are displayed by the icon that represents file that windows does not recognise. How I can restore these icons? I have tried a system restore back a week when they were all still good but that did not make a difference.
There are icons infront of the real icons and i have no clue how to get rif of them i downloaded aliengiuse from alienware to change everything but this was the biggest mistake as you can see .
So I just traded out my year old Gateway laptop (which stopped working) for a new Dell Inspiron. I've never been particularly impressed with Dell but the Tech Guy at Best Buy assured me the quality of their laptops had improved. Anyway, it came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Since it was a Dell it came loaded with a stardock with mac-like icons instead of desktop icons. I like it so I customized it with the icons for the programs I use most, stared typing up notes for medical school with MS Word, and started downloading music files.
So the other day I notice strangely that the dock had reverted back to the original icons that were present when I first got the computer. Then I noticed all of the files downloaded/saved to the harddrive had disappeared. So I start anew adding files and replacing most of the old ones. Then suddenly yesterday the dock changes again back to how it was...customized and the files that I originally had reappeared but now the files I saved when it changed the first time are gone. So what is going on? Is this some kind of glitch in the OS? Is there something wrong with the actual computer? how get my files back?
I have a job that runs at 3:10am every day and sends me an email with the results. All the emails before the change to DST were timed with 3:10am. when viewed on days b4 DST. Now after the change all of these emails are timed at 4:10am. The job that ran on the 15th is timed at 3:10am. All of my time related options appear to be correct.
Why did the time change on emails processed b4 DST???
This also happened to files and their 'Date Modified' as viewed in windows explorer.
It now appears if I need to prove that I created a file or sent an email at a particular time prior to DST, it will show up as happening an hour later that when it really happened.
i created a new folder in my hard disk, but could not rename the folder. When i created, the folder the created with the default name "New Folder". When i try to change the name of the created folder, it does not get changed and also does not show any error message it still remains as "New Folder"
