i created a new folder in my hard disk, but could not rename the folder. When i created, the folder the created with the default name "New Folder". When i try to change the name of the created folder, it does not get changed and also does not show any error message it still remains as "New Folder"
View 3 RepliesThis has happened to me before - somehow the folder formats change themselves, eg the documents folder has options along the top like 'organise' 'view''slideshow' and 'burn' ie like in the pictures folder. I found the answer once before in one of the forums, but can't remember where it was. And why does this happen? Also, when I go to 'Help & support" in the Start button, it defaults to Lenovo (my hardware mfg) instead of Microsoft Windows.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently messed up real bad. I was playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 for PC. And I went into the documents folder to try to delete the last saved game. When I did I made a mistake and changed the folder with a GCF file in it to open the GCF files with adobe reader. Now I can't figure out what program it originally was suppose to open with. So my question is: How do I change the GCF file folder back to it's default settings so it will open with the program that it's suppose to open with?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I turned my computer on today it seems that all of my filenames have 'disappeared' - the files are still called the same that I named them, but instead of them showing the titles, they either show the date modified or only certain details. I mainly have music on my hard drive, and now the folder looks like this:
As you can see, on the left in the folder tree, the path is showing up, the files are still there etc, but instead of the track titles, there is now only the artist and album? I have tried shift and view, tried different views, tried changing the folder view to pictures and videos etc, I have also completely scanned the drives and there doesn't seem to be any problems? Under 'folder options' I have tried showing all extensions etc, showing hidden files, different customizing of views:...........
Ive just changed from 32bit to the 64bit OS, and I have noticed that I have 2 Program Folders one has x86 next to it. I take it that this is for 32bit programs and the other for 64bit applications. The question I have is most of the programs are in both folders which means taken up valuable harddrive space, is it advisable to delette the 32bit folder.

results. All the emails before the change to DST were timed with 3:10am.
when viewed on days b4 DST. Now after the change all of these emails are
timed at 4:10am. The job that ran on the 15th is timed at 3:10am.
All of my time related options appear to be correct.
Why did the time change on emails processed b4 DST???
This also happened to files and their 'Date Modified' as viewed in windows
explorer.
It now appears if I need to prove that I created a file or sent an email at
a particular time prior to DST, it will show up as happening an hour later
that when it really happened.
i have a problem with my vista home premium sp1...i have arun window and other window that the font is now different..its bold and its not the same anymore...i did the appearncae style, system font and nothing worked.

Usually when i connect the lan cable to my laptop and check uing ipcofig i get the same IP ,But every now and then the IP gets chaged to some other IP y.y.y.y .Now when i go and check using the IP config my y.y.y.y Ip becomes the prefereed IP and 169.x.x.x becomes the duplicate IP But if i check in the Manage Network pane where we set the IP address ,there it will be showing the correct IP only ( x.x.x.x assigned by sify ).

Now I know that it changed every link on my desktop and in my program files, etc...to go to the mail program. There is no reset to the default association. View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I used to download digital kits it would download & a download box would open. I could double click and then the windows explorer directory would open. I could then double click the file to unzip and I could copy to folder but somehow I changed it.
Now when I try to download from a digital store it downloads and opens in windows photo gallery which opens all my photos but not that file. I tried right clicking to save but it won't let me, so my paid digital purchases can't be downloaded so I am going to lose those purchases (limited amount of downloads and days allowed).
I checked the default settings for zipped files which shows windows photo gallery is picked (was picassa but I thought trying something else might trigger windows to give me the original default but didn't happen so I just clicked windows photo gallery/notepad/internet explorer which really made my system go wonky and hubby did a system restore to yesterday to get rid of the glitch it caused) but won't let me pick windows internet explorer (its not there in the choices). I tried searching for windows internet explorer and nothing comes up.
Am I going to have to bring my system in and have everything redone? Its frustrating for me b/c I thought when I got the choice to have Picassa as default I thought it meant only photos. I had no idea that it would screw up my whole downloading system. Plus the fact that I made a purchase that my computer wont download so I bought something I can't have. Ugh...I hate that such trouble was caused by a single click.
I have a Vista Home Premium 32bit. Last night on the windows folder I changed ownership from trusted installer to my username for I could delete a file in (Downloaded Program Files). But after I changed the ownership of the folder back to trusted installer some of my programs (iTunes, Adobe Reader, Dell Dock, Microsoft Works, Modem Diagnostic, Windows Live Messenger, etc) changed to (.ink file). I can't even do restore point. I tried the File association fixes in File association fixes for Windows Vista but it did not work.

I'm on Vista Home Basic 32bit, and everyone should know how the icons and such look. I recently had to re-install a bunch of fonts due to them magically getting erased. Now, I noticed that I can't change the color of any actual windows, and the icons are slightly different. Old "X" button icon: Mythical new X button icon:
I went into the control panel and noticed I couldn't find the menu that usually lets you change the color of the windows and such. All I can see is this: What the eff is going on? And I did virus scans with two different programs - they found nothing.
Vista Home Premium, 32bit: I've read the tutorials here on how to enable DEP (Data Execution Prevention), but there are a few problems. First of all, there are two locations where different DEPs applications can be changed or turned off/on. The first one resides in the 'Advanced System Settings' > 'Performance' > Data Execution Prevention' tab. The two choices here are: Use DEP for Windows programs & Use DEP for all programs. Mine was set by default to the former, but when changed to the latter, web pages would no longer load ("server not found" or "unable to load..." So I had to reset to the default level. Q: What causes the problem? Is there a solution? Isn't my comp. better protected with DEP enabled for all programs? DEP's second residence is in IE > 'Internet Options' > 'Advanced' tab under 'Security.' The options here are to check or not box saying 'Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks.' The tutorial here tells me to right click on the IE7 exe. file, but I can't find it. Right clicking on IE in menu brings up 'Run as Admin' prompt then redirects/connects to 'hp.desktop.aol.com.' But by the time I get to the 'Enable memory protection...' box, it's grayed out & won't let me check it. Research says this is disabled by default. This is a new desktop. Shouldn't this DEP be enabled as well? .

View 7 Replies View Relatedi wright games and i just finished a new version of the old mmorpg ragnarok online and well all te file names are wrong when read on a vista computer. for example.(????????????)was changed to(_??AI??U)the only reason i can think of is the os is changeing the file name. the language is korien i think.... but i use it for all encrypted file names so no 1 else can edit them.

Hi there, earlier i realised that my vista default font is different, i.e. the font for icons, on dialog boxes and even in firefox etc have got bolder in places and also not as fine.
How can i restore the default fonts? Ive checked the appearance options and it still says they are Segoe UI (thats the default font right?)

I have the ultimate 64bit vista, on my old computer which was vista home premium I was able to hit one of the Fkeys before windows started and set the date back to when it had factory settings. Is there anyway I can do this with mine I do not have any of the disks to reload windows.

I installed some Mods for Oblivion and my directional keys Uparrow and leftarrow have some how ended up with multiple functions
Uparrow is also esc, F12, b,n and Windows key
Left arrow is also F2 and PgDown
Ive tried restoring my system, deleting/reinstalling drivers, modifying the registry and even third party freeware like AutoHotkey and Keytweak but nothing works
I just want to reset them back to being up and left (i use the directional keys,numberpad, right shift and right control for all my first person shooters and have to relearn with WSAD something I dont want to have to do)
I am even considering getting another keyboard but somehow I dont think that will solve the problem. I deleted the System32 entries for my keyboard and it stopped functioning altogether. I unplugged and plugged it in again and it set up the system32 (installed generic drivers there and then ) and the keyboard functions again but my problem remains.

not sure if im in the right place..but, Vista seems to have changed my second HD where I keep all my media into a CD Drive, the icon has changed to a CD drive icon in My Computer and the desktop shortcut now asks for a Disc to be inserted when I try to access it... The C drive remains unaffected. Anyone got a fix for this?.
