I have built a new pc recently with vista os installed and i just realized that the IDE dvd writer is recognized as a SCSI dvd writer since I cant burn any dvd or cd at all. the ide controlled on the motherboard is JMicron JMB36X and the dvd drive is LG GSA-4163B.

The problem i have is that my DvdWriter doesn't recognize the dvd's that i played before the reinstallation of windows.The dvd discs that i use are Memorex DVD-R.I am very curios why this type of dvd was recognized before the re-installation of windows...(i was able to burn this type of dvd with no problems)...and now..after i installed windows it doesn't work anymore...Though i mention that the same type of dvd discs from pleomax samsung are playable(DVD-R).

I don't know what happened - I didn't install any new programs or anything like that. The drive in question is an LG GSA-H55L (lightscribe). When I put in a blank cdr, autorun takes over and asks me what I want to do with the media, but when I try the same thing with a DVD, nothing happens. I have searched online for a fix, but nothing happens. I updated the firmware to 1.05 (latest FW). I first noticed the problem when using windows dvd maker (wanted menus and chapters for some home movies taken from my canon hg10) uninstalled all my burner software and reinstalled. rolled back the computer to previous state

I have an Adaptec u320 39320D-R SCSI card and 2 x hard drives, when the install runs it says it cannot find any drives to install on.
I have downloaded the Vista x64 SCSI drivers from Adaptec's website which are MS certified, but if I select the browse and choose the 39320D-R (Raid enabled) drivers , Vista just BSD's saying 'Stack Overrun'.
So I tried the 39320D (non raid even though mine has host raid enabled - but not using raid! - XP even shows the SCSI controller as host raid enabled and didn't even require drivers when I installed it!)
the non raid U39320D seems to load ok but the screen still shows no drives available to insall onto, i've clicked the refesh option and nothing appears. I have a genuine Vista x64 Business copy, with genuine U320 39320D-R SCSI Card and drivers - supposedly certified by MS and they don't work.
I can't get my laptop to recognize my dvd burner. I read earlier threads about deleting the upper and lower filters in the registry but, I can't find those filters in the registry file. What am I doing wrong?

I had internet for a whole day when all of a sudden my connection was gone. At first I thought it could of been that the usb stick is broken, so I went out and got a new one. Plugged that one in and the same thing happens.
Every time I plug it into my pc I hear the sound that Vista makes when a device is not recognized. I installed all the drivers and everything was working fine 2 days ago. I'm now using my old usb connector and it's working great. I tried all the usb connectors but all of them make the sound when a device is not recognized.
I placed a DVD in the tray to do a backup. The spindle spins for 5 seconds and stops. The system does not recognize that a DVD is in the tray. CD's are OK. I probably inadvertently changed something in the past weeks while trouble shooting another problem.

However, there were several issues with performance and finally late last year I gave up and went back to XP. Now that the SP1 is available, I want to go back and install Vista, but for some reason, my computer won't recognize the disc. It trys, but just can't load it. I've tried other DVDs and have burned a couple and they all work fine. For whatever reason, the problem is with the Vista DVD.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an Ultra ATA 100 drive that will not install in BIOS or Vista 32 ultimate OS. I have support on my motherboard for 66/100/133 pata (as well as sata II). I have all dated drivers for the motherboard. I'm using VIA's Hyperion Pro drivers. I think my problem is setting jumpers in the drive. I've tried the drive on both primary master and slave, and secondary primary and slave buses. I've also tried the drive in combinations of 2 HDD and 1 HDD, 1 dvd rom. I've set the jumper to cable select, master, and no jumper with no results. However, the drive works in an AMD box running XP 32. The HDD it is not working in is Vista 32 sp1 ultimate. As it is now i have the HDD on the same secondary bus as my dvd rom. The HDD is set to master, and not showing up anywhere. The drive is a Maxtor 40gb.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm troubleshooting a friends computer and can'tseem to get it working.Basically, he's running Vista Home Prem 32bit. He just bought a new Canon MP480 inkjet printer and everytime he plugs it into his laptop he gets the "USB Device Not Recognized". I tested his printer and cable on my laptop (Vista Ultimate 64bit) and it IDs the printer and tries to install just fine. We're both running SP1 and I just did a double check and I we're both fully up-to-date on Windows update.I've tried uninstalling the USB hardware and then doing new install of the Intel chipset drivers.I've tried "forcing" the driver install using "driver update", but Vista just comes back and says "Driver for "unknown device" currently has the best driver confused I've tried draining the laptops power and I've tried a "driver inf cache" delete thing as well.
The disc can be read by a similar model machine. Mine can both read and boot from an XP install disc, but the Vista DVD isn't seen at all (not within XP nor on bootup). There are no firmware updates for the motherboard or drive which are more recent than what's already installed.

However, Vista has suddenly started to report this has 'USB Device Not Recognized'. The hub works with XP and other USB devices work fine when plugged into the same port. I have tried deleting the infcache.1 file as suggested in other threads but no joy.

The wireless keyboard/mouse is in a USB port right next to it and that works. I even unplugged that thinking maybe it was a "power" issue. View 8 Replies View RelatedI have searched the forums through and through, i have removed filters from the registry, rebooted, deleted the driver from device manager and let the system reinstall. When I put a disc in my drive, autoplay does not start or anything. I have checked the autoplay settings and they all seem to be correct. I can put a music CD in and go to Media Player and play the CD. but when I go to my computer and open the drive it doesn't show any files. this is not just for music cd's, it is dvd's, programs and everything. My drive is the Optiard AD-7653 (that is how it is listed in the device manager)

However, when I plug my phone via USB, my laptop charges my phone, but doesn't read it. I've tried everything.. updating the bios, delete infcache.1, I tried soldering the usb ports again, I've tried all of that. I've searched the web and I can't find any solutions.. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba Satellite A135-S2376.

All of a sudden for no apparent reason approximately 2 days ago my PC stop recognizing ANY USB device (being the built-in cam, iPod and other USB's) that is being attached to ANY of the ports. I Checked disk for any errors and ran a full system scan for viruses and nothing came up. What can I do to fix this?

Everything was working perfectly, then I kept hearing the noise, the noise when you insert and take out a mouse du du noise, it happened a few times then all of a sudden there was the USB Devise Not Recognised on my computer. The message is flashing up every few seconds!!!
I have tried re-booting it - no joy
I have tried using the other 2 USB ports - no joy
Service pack 3 is now installed - hasn't changed anything

I also see both drives if I enter the BIOS settings. Windows Explorer does shows only the original drive. The BIOS setting for the SATA drives is AHCI Do I need to format it? if so, where do I go to format it?

View 7 Replies View RelatedVista stopped recognizing my installed USB devices yesterday. System restore, Last Known Good Config and reinstalling the device drivers have not corrected the problem. Also did a registry clean and repair. Tried renaming INFCACHE.1 to INFCACHE.1.bak. Tried the hotfix mentioned in a similar post. Ran a registry scan and repair.
Devices include memory stick, webcam, printer, wireless KB and mouse. USB ports have power, and Vista sees new hardware when its is plugged in, but always sees it as unknown device and cannot find or install drivers. All devices worked fine 2 days ago..........
I'm trying to install Age of Conan. When I place DVD in the drive it makes a repetitive sound and does not appear to spin up. DVD is not recognized by system: no pop up window, explorer indicates there is no DVD in rom. I place AoC in a second machine (running XP Pro) and install screen appears. I have installed OS & Office with the rom and placed a CIV IV DVD in drive and that installation started.(i.e. I believe the rom works)
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a SanDisk 16gb cruzer that is easily recognized in my XP Pro machines and was for a brief while on my 2 Vista Ultimate machines. A few weeks ago, my 2 Vista Machines stop recognizing it. If I go to device manager, I can see it listed as a disk drive. To get it to work I scroll down to USB Mass Storage Device and disable/enable it and it pops up and all is good. If I look in Computer Mgmt /Disk Mgmt, it shows up as unallocated so it does not get assigned a driver letter. If I boot the PC with the usb drive inserted it works fine.
I called Sandisk technial support and they said it was "Vista problem" because the drive works in XP and in a friend's computer also running Vista. Can one delete all USB devices in Vista without doing a complete reload of Vista. Maybe setting all USB paramters back to that after a clean install would help?
Does anyone know why the icons from the .COM and .EXE files for so many pre-Vista apps and games are not recognized by Vista? I have literally dozens of old games and apps that for some reason still work with Vista (Unlike most things that won't run at all), but when I try to change the icon, Vista says no icons were found in the file. I know for a fact the icons are in there, but Vista refuses to recognize them.
