CD And DVD Discs Not Recognized
Mar 23, 2008
I have searched the forums through and through, i have removed filters from the registry, rebooted, deleted the driver from device manager and let the system reinstall. When I put a disc in my drive, autoplay does not start or anything. I have checked the autoplay settings and they all seem to be correct. I can put a music CD in and go to Media Player and play the CD. but when I go to my computer and open the drive it doesn't show any files. this is not just for music cd's, it is dvd's, programs and everything. My drive is the Optiard AD-7653 (that is how it is listed in the device manager)

Every time I inset a disc it is rejected as soon as i double click the icon. I have deleted the upper and lower filters on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. My discs are not read and they eject when I double click the icon. But it clearly doesn't read it and I also uninstalled some DVD writing programs, unless their still there?

There is a recovery disk (a disk image) you can make yourself by using TrueImage or some other such program. Then there are recovery disks that come with a new computer. Which are you talking about?" I'd like to state to Mr. Urban emphatically that I've had Acronis for years. I've helped on their forums. Many people can't recover with the disc Acronis makes.
When I'm trying to fix a Microsoft Windows Operating System, in Vista or any build of Windows 7, I prefer to use the tools that Microsoft has made rather than Acronis. I'm going to be blunt here. Microsoft pays their engineers far more than Acronis will ever dream of paying theirs and there is a damn good reason. Microsoft's engineers have considerably more education, training, imagination, and competence than Acronis' personnel, and frankly Acronis backups (the .tibs) and their Recovery Disc often results in failure............................

When I put a disk into my CD/DVD drive and then go into Computer and click my E: drive, all I get is the 'Please insert disc into E: ...' message. Up until a few days ago the exact same discs were working with my system, and they're working because I've run them on my PS3 to check.

I am not clear on this issue. When I purchased my HP computer, I created "recovery discs" using the software shipped with HP. It took 30 minutes and used 3 DVD+R discs. I am not clear on if I am covered or if I need to get Imgburn or some other program and create an ISO image. What is the difference? I think I know the answer but want to make sure. Also, if you create an ISO image, does this include your theme, drivers, settings, ect. Recovery discs would take you back to when you opened the box and plugged the computer in. What is the difference for an ISO image?

I spent a bit of time having to re-install operating systems. With Vista, there are too many variations. What I would mind doing is having 1 DVD that can install any edition [or at least home basic, and home premium] and whether it's OEM or retail. Alternatively is to "convert" a retail DVD to an OEM DVD. I'm not worried about licensing because it's a reinstall and the user would have the license already. I know that with Windows 7, deleting 1 file does it all [per bit platform].

Recently this unit is not recognising pre-recorded or formatted discs which it previously had recognised. I have a HP laptrop and the drive is a matshita DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the driver with no success. In one of the forums it is suggested that the 'UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" in the HKEY registry be deleted but I am not sure about doing this without someone in the know gives it their OK.

My LG H55N firmware 1.05 refuses to recognize Rewritable discs once they have been written to ie I can't erase them on my computer and must use another computer to do it.
(Very irritating because it has to be a full erase not a quick one and on the computer I have to use it takes about an hour) ...

My OS is Vista Home Premium 32 bits. My cd/dvd drive is HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM LG GSA-H55N SCSI. I have one strange problem with my cd/dvd drive since a couple of days.
---My cd/dvd drive doesn't recognize Maxell CD-R discs and certain movie dvds and doesn't read any music cds (manufacturized albums). When I insert the disk, there's this message ''Insert the disk on Drive E:''. But it doesn't have any problems with other CD-R and DVD-R like Memorex and Sony. Last week, October 26, I played a DVD movies (like Broadway melody) without any problems. I tried to play it again today it gives me the ''insert the disc message''. Is it due to some Windows update? or anything?

I am having a quirky issue with my DVD drive and hopefully someone will know where to start. It seems that the drive will read CDs (opening them in iTunes) and music DVDs (playing in Mplayer), but the system completely hangs and freezes when trying to load a data disc. Specifically, the system will continually try and open the DVD (spinning away) and cause serious lag to the computer. When trying to eject the DVD, it will then cause the computer to freeze and require a reboot.
The data discs that I'm using are all programs that I've previously loaded on my XP install, so I know the discs aren't corrupt. I'm also running a 32 bit version of Vista, so I'm not worried about 64 bit compatibility issues. The drive is a Lite-on (DH-20A4P) IDE based drive, set as Master on the cable. There are no other devices hooked to the IDE cable, and the cable is also brand new (came with motherboard). Here's the steps I've taken thus far to diagnose the problem -- with no fixes working.
- Downloaded and installed newest drivers for the DVD drive
- Flashed the DVD drive firmware with most current version
- Uninstalled then reinstalled DVD drive through Device Manager
- Disabled autorun feature
- Checked connections from drive to motherboard
The drive obviously is working properly since I'm able to play CDs and DVD movies/music. It might be worth noting that I used this same drive to install Vista, but perhaps the updates horked my drive? I'm thinking this is a Vista software issue, but can't think of anything else to try. I'm also hesitant to wipe and reinstall Vista for such a small issue.

I had internet for a whole day when all of a sudden my connection was gone. At first I thought it could of been that the usb stick is broken, so I went out and got a new one. Plugged that one in and the same thing happens.
Every time I plug it into my pc I hear the sound that Vista makes when a device is not recognized. I installed all the drivers and everything was working fine 2 days ago. I'm now using my old usb connector and it's working great. I tried all the usb connectors but all of them make the sound when a device is not recognized.

I placed a DVD in the tray to do a backup. The spindle spins for 5 seconds and stops. The system does not recognize that a DVD is in the tray. CD's are OK. I probably inadvertently changed something in the past weeks while trouble shooting another problem.

I had been running Vista since it came out last year with no compatible issues at all. However, there were several issues with performance and finally late last year I gave up and went back to XP. Now that the SP1 is available, I want to go back and install Vista, but for some reason, my computer won't recognize the disc. It trys, but just can't load it. I've tried other DVDs and have burned a couple and they all work fine. For whatever reason, the problem is with the Vista DVD.

I have an Ultra ATA 100 drive that will not install in BIOS or Vista 32 ultimate OS. I have support on my motherboard for 66/100/133 pata (as well as sata II). I have all dated drivers for the motherboard. I'm using VIA's Hyperion Pro drivers. I think my problem is setting jumpers in the drive. I've tried the drive on both primary master and slave, and secondary primary and slave buses. I've also tried the drive in combinations of 2 HDD and 1 HDD, 1 dvd rom. I've set the jumper to cable select, master, and no jumper with no results. However, the drive works in an AMD box running XP 32. The HDD it is not working in is Vista 32 sp1 ultimate. As it is now i have the HDD on the same secondary bus as my dvd rom. The HDD is set to master, and not showing up anywhere. The drive is a Maxtor 40gb.

I'm troubleshooting a friends computer and can'tseem to get it working.Basically, he's running Vista Home Prem 32bit. He just bought a new Canon MP480 inkjet printer and everytime he plugs it into his laptop he gets the "USB Device Not Recognized". I tested his printer and cable on my laptop (Vista Ultimate 64bit) and it IDs the printer and tries to install just fine. We're both running SP1 and I just did a double check and I we're both fully up-to-date on Windows update.I've tried uninstalling the USB hardware and then doing new install of the Intel chipset drivers.I've tried "forcing" the driver install using "driver update", but Vista just comes back and says "Driver for "unknown device" currently has the best driver confused I've tried draining the laptops power and I've tried a "driver inf cache" delete thing as well.

The disc can be read by a similar model machine. Mine can both read and boot from an XP install disc, but the Vista DVD isn't seen at all (not within XP nor on bootup). There are no firmware updates for the motherboard or drive which are more recent than what's already installed.

I have been using a Trust 7 Port USB Hub with Vista SP1, using the built in Vista driver, without issue. However, Vista has suddenly started to report this has 'USB Device Not Recognized'. The hub works with XP and other USB devices work fine when plugged into the same port. I have tried deleting the infcache.1 file as suggested in other threads but no joy.

My flash drive and my picture device are not being recognized when I plug into my front USB ports. The wireless keyboard/mouse is in a USB port right next to it and that works. I even unplugged that thinking maybe it was a "power" issue. I am a novice, why won't my USB devices work, nothing comes up when I plug them in, just a "bleep" sound but NOTHING else.
