Movie Maker Clips Gone
Dec 11, 2008I've been using movie maker to make sports videos for a couple years now. I had a huge collection of clips in many folders. I recently opened movie maker and all the folders and clips I've been collecting over many months have vanished. This is a nightmare and a tremedous loss of valuable data.

May 29, 2009Seems like this must have been answered somewhere, but I swear I could not find it so I gave up... If I open a folder with pictures or videos in it, in details view, it shows a column called Ratings which has 5 blank stars in it. This seems like a great way to rate photos and movie clips so I can search for favorites. However, I can't seem to figure out any way to APPLY ratings to photos or movie clips using those stars. What's the deal? Is there a way to indeed apply ratings to pictures and movies using those stars, or ??? why are they there??

Can't Working Winzip
Aug 20, 2008I just downloaded the trial version of winzip 11.2. This is the first time I made a compressed folder/file. It was easy to follow but a lot of steps involved. Is there and easier program that is free. If there is one easier and I have to pay for that is ok as well. What is some recommendations that any body might have.

I have just installed Winzip 10 and there is no right click menu in explorer except for the usual Open/Send to etc, there is not "extract to here" Add to archive etc.
These are all selected in options/context menu commands.
Is there something in Vista 64 that is stopping it.

Apr 1, 2009I was trying to open a .rar file, and found I need a new winzip, but I couldn't install it as something was wrong in it chest. I was told to do a remove in uninstall, but it's not listed, there was something else too, but I forgot, as my short term mem is AFU, please help if you Grok.

May 23, 2010When i try to pubish my movie on recommended settings, it works fine and there are no problems but when i try to publish on some of the other settings, it gives me the cannot complete publish movie error.

Oct 11, 2009I cannot publish my movie with windows movie maker, although I cannot detect any problem. All the clips used in the movie are .avi, it is 41 clips in total and the movie length is 2 min 33 sec. When I try to publish the publishing process starts but then cancels and gives me this message: "Windows Movie Maker cannot publish the movie to the specified location. Verify, that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the publishing location is still available, that there is enough free disk space available, and then try again." Checked all that and that is not the problem! could not find any solutions in the other threads for WMM.

In Winzip 12.0 when I open a zip file with pictures in it, it always brings them up in thumbnail view. I can change the view to "details" and get a list of the filenames which is what I want to be the default action. But I can't seem to find a place where I can set that to the default. Winzip 8.0 didn't do this. I was *happy* with 8.0 but unfortunately it isn't compatible with Vista or Windows 7

Jul 29, 2009I previously had XP Pro. When I watched video clips on the Internet the video clip would be downloaded in to the Temporary Internet Files. These were mostly .flv, or .mpg but sometimes .wmv or other video files. These small video clips were from news items, UTube or any other source. I could then copy these files to other folders and keep the video clip. This also was the same for audio files.
I now have a new computer running Vista Ultimate SP2. When I view any video clip from the Internet the files do not appear in the Temporary Internet File folder and I cannot find them anywhere else. Why is this? Are they downloaded to a "Hidden" folder? How can I again save these downloaded video and audio clips? (other than changing back to XP?)
No Audio In Video Clips In Wmm
Mar 23, 2008When I transfer video clips from my camera, video works in windows movie maker but there's no audio. The clips are avi and I have vista Home Premium. I installed k-lite codec pack and now have audio in media player but there is still no audio in movie maker. When this problem first arose I couldn't get sound from the clips on anything but quick time. By installing the k-lite pack it enabled sound in photosmart essential, wmp and media center but still not in photo gallery or wmm. I really like the features I see in wmm and would like to experiment.
When I import audio tracks from other places they play just fine in wmm just not the audio from my video clips. And these play fine elsewhere! Also my daughter has avi video clips from her camera that do play in wmm. I downloaded gspot and it says audio was rendered with mulaw - video mjpg. In solutions to make it work were: Src-A-Avi splitter -B - ffdshow video decoder - C - video renderer Src - A - Avi splitter-B-ffdshow Audio Decoder - C Default Direct Sound Device Mute is not checked. I would think it was a camera problem but the clips play fine elsewhere.
Overlay On Selected Clips Feature On WMM Bleeding From One Pix To Another
May 16, 2009I'm having a problem with the overlay title on selected clips feature on WMM bleeding from one pix to another. I have around 300 pix and all are fine but a couple of cells. I don't want to slow the transition on all pix and I don't think it's possible to do it on select ones. Is there any other way to correct this problem?

I have created a movie with Movie Maker, and when i try to publish the movie with the default settings, its giving an error message: "Movie Maker can not publish the movie. The source files may not be available, or the disk space is not enouth...". I have my source files in the same path, 50GB of free disk space is there. But its not publishing the movie. But, if i select the third option the select bit rate window ie.AVI-DV in the dropdown list, the publishing is successfull. But the .AVI file created is huge in size. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with movie maker, and why it is not able to publish the movie with default settings.

Aug 5, 2008I have Vista set to sleep after 1 hour, and then hibernate on the 2nd hour. That works fine, and it comes of of sleep & hibernation just fine, as well.
I have Vista set to ask for a password when it comes out of hibernation.
However, upon coming out of hibernation, it displays the password screen for all of 10-20 seconds. If I don't put in my password in that amount of time, Vista goes back into hibernation mode. Very annoying.
What I would like is to be able to tell Vista to wait a longer than just a handful of seconds before dropping back into hibernation.
Motherboard 2 Long And 1 Short Beeps
Jun 12, 2009im having another problem (they just keep coming) but this time it is with a brand new mmotherboard and RAM i just bought them yesterday and as the title says i get 1 short and 2 long beeps, i know what you guys will say is that i should take it back, but i would rather not as it is a two and a half hour return trip to the store (Umart for those locals) i read that it could be one of two things.
1. the Graphics card which i have checked in another board and it works
2. the RAM which i went to the store and replaced from one 2gb stick and now is 2X TEAM Xtreem 800mhz DDR2 and2X Kingston HyperX 1066Mhz DDR2 and they are all Brand New. Except the Graphics Card (Zotac nvidia 9800GT 612MB)are there any ideas of what i can do? as might have to drive to Umart tomorrow but would rather not. Please reply ASAP!

Short Cut Keys No Longer Work
Aug 16, 2008I have a HP Pavilion TX1340 laptop running Vista Home Premium and in general it is working OK. However just recently I have found that short cuts such as ctrl/C and ctrl/V no longer work and just result in the letters "c" and "v" appearing in the text. Is this a Vista problem or a laptop problem and what is the solution?

Dec 14, 2008While dual core and quad core processors are a great advance in processing power, many games in XP and Vista run better on a single core. Need for Speed Underground is one such game. In my search to find an easy way to set processor affinity, I found the easy method outlined below. This method is the best I've found and actually WORKS without having to make system-wide changes. Here's a tip I use for some games which have problems with dual core. It saves the trouble of [alt][tab] out of the game each time, and I find it easier than creating a batch file. You may have already seen this, if so, the short answer is written in red at the bottom of this post..... Affinity and priority can be permanently added to an application's shortcut so that you don't have to change it every time you run it. To begin, create a shortcut to the game on the desktop. Right click the shortcut and select properties. In the "shortcut" tab, find the line for "target". Copy this in front of the target: C:WindowsSystem32cmd.exe /C START "Need for Speed Undercover" /high /affinity 1. Now, NFS Underground will automatically run in high priority on Core 0. Here's an example for the game Tombraider Legend which also balks at dual core processing.
The target line originally looks like this: "C:Program Files (x86)Tomb Raider - Legend rl.exe" So I change it to this: :WindowsSystem32cmd.exe /C START "Tomb Raider" /high /affinity 1 "C:Program Files (x86)Tomb Raider - Legend rl.exe" The affinity can be set to any CPU core by changing the number to the corresponding hex value.
1st core = 1
2nd core = 2
3rd core = 4
4th core = 8
5th core = 10 ( hexadecimal 16 )
6th core = 20 ( hexadecimal 32 )........
5 Minutes It Hangs For A Short Period Of
Jun 8, 2009I've been having this kind of problem since I installed Vista. I like Vista very much, but it brings so much problems to me than XP. I often play Age of Empires III and in every 5 minutes it hangs for a short period of time. It hangs 2-3 times and the next thing that will happen is either it will show a black screen or hangs. Windows never responds if either of these happen, so I shut down the computer improperly.
