How To Mount Physical Disk To Users Folder?

Apr 6, 2008

Is there a way to mount a physical disk to the C:Users folder? It seems there is no way to relocate all items in that folder to other location so that that folder can be empty for mounting.

I am running Windows 7, but this would pertain to earlier versions too.I have access to a share, I'll call it \SERVERDocuments. I know how to mount that to a drive letter. That is not what I want to do. Instead I want to map it to my C:UsersusernameDocuments. I have searched online and others have asked this only to be told how to map to a drive letter.

Documents Files No Avail Access Old Users/ Accounts Folder

Oct 15, 2009

Yesterday my (Vista 32) system crashed so hard that it took some system files with it, necessitating a complete re-install with all the headaches and thoughtless wreckage it does to one's file system. I'm desperately in need of many of my old "My Documents" files, etc. and have searched around for them, to no avail. I've been trying to access the old Users/Account folder I used in my previous installation (where I presume most of these files are located). I need to grand admin permissions to do this, and I do, but then a new window opens up and it's literally nothing but a *black* (not blank) empty space. I get no further explanation or access.

a) Where are my old files? Have they been deleted?? b) How do I access this folder? I've seen in other forums things that tell me this users/account folder may just be a sort of 'pointer' used for legacy purposes. What's going on?

Vista 64 Installed Physical Memory Vs Total Physical Memory

Mar 26, 2009

I'm running Vista 64 Home (SP1) Premium on a homebuilt machine w/8GB (4 X 2GB modules). Windows is reporting 8 GB of Installed Physical Memory but is reporting only 4 GB of Total Physical Memory. I first noticed this when, after installing a game, the game system specs said 3092 MB of RAM.

I have checked the BIOS and it recognizes 8 GB. Memory Remapping is Enabled. Under Memory Remapping is "PCI MMIO Allocation: 4GB to 3328 MB" (?). MSConfig Boot Options shows Max Memory is not checked and no value in the box below. I tried enabling it and using 8192 as the value, but it made no difference. DxDiag shows 8 GB installed RAM. how I can get windows to make available all 8 GB of RAM? (Motherboard is ASUS Maximus II Extreme w/Intel Q9550 processor running at Q9650 clock speed, memory running at 1127 MHz

Mount A CD Image

Aug 19, 2007

Mounting a CD image is a basic feature of almost every operating system package except for Microsoft Windows. Microsoft has never shipped this feature in any version of Windows including Windows Vista.  Mounting a CD image is very useful when you have downloaded a .ISO cd image and you do not want to waste the time or the media to burn a copy. Since Windows Vista does not have this functionality built-in, you will need to download a utility. One popular utility that will mount CD images is called elby CloneDrive. Best of all, CloneDrive is free and easy to use. Follow these steps to mount CD images in Windows Vista with CloneDrive: ....

Windows 7 Provides No Real Benefits: Vista / Windows 7 Are Mostly Transparent To Normal Users - Even Monster Power Users

Oct 9, 2009

I calculated that to migrate to Vista or Windows 7 will cost close to =A32000. not including my time - It will take around 100 hours. This is because many of my existing software / tools / utilities does not work on Vista and the vendors expect me to buy a new license because it is a "new product" even though it does exactly what it did before - just on a different OS. Even the products that do work have problems and glitches that have to be worked around. All this takes time MY VALUABLE time. In other words I am suffering because Microsoft want money. In the past some versions of windows were worth migrating to Windows 2000 and Windows XP were great

But most of the improvements to Vista / Windows 7 are mostly transparent to normal users - even monster power users like me. I believe Microsoft have a serious attitude problem. just wait until they take full advantage of TPM to screw even more money out of us. If I am wrong please point out a real tangible benefit that Vista or Windows 7 brings to a large percentage of users or to me. I also I can no longer buy a laptop because they only come with Vista GPU drivers (some come with buggy unsupported XP GPU drivers - great)

"Users" Folder Cannot Access

Mar 20, 2009

Much like everyone else, I'm having issues getting my vista/xp wireless network going. The routing of the network is like this: Motorolla modem ---> Netgear Wireless Router ---> Hard wired into Desktop running Windows XP Pro SP3 ----> Wireless to Vista Ultimate x32 In XP:I ran the network wizard and chose option 2 (the residential gateway one). The workgroup name on both computers is the same.

In Vista:
-- File sharing is turned on
-- Network discovery is turned on
-- Password protection is turned off

The issue: In XP I can see the "Users" folder but cannot access it. In Vista I can't see the XP desktop in the network folder at all. The only two things that show in the network are the laptop and the router. Thats it. Also, in the network map, nothing shows. Not the internet, not the router, nor the laptop. Forget about the desktop.

Low Disk Space: When Open A New Folder

Apr 3, 2008

On Windows Mail (I am running 32-bit Vista) every few hours when I go to open a new folder a message appears where the message thread is usually shown which says that the message can't be shown because of low disk space and system memory. It does not appear to be because of a stuck email, as there are no emails in the Outbox and everything sends OK. Also, it happens when I click on random folders, from being in an existing folder.

For example, I may be in my inbox and want to check sent messages, so I'll click on the sent folder and then all messages will be hidden in all folders, and I'll just see the message about low disk space etc. If I exit Windows Mail then open it back up, the problem remains, though if I restart the computer it goes back to normal, for a few hours

Requier Disk Space Folder Not Deleted

May 19, 2009

I use Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I'm unable to delete a temporary folder on C:. This folder was used by an application to create an ISO file. If the job had succeeded the app deletes the temp file. I was forced to kill the job due to lack of disk space, so the folder was not deleted. In an account with Administrator privileges (not the hidden admin account), I ran the following commands in an elevated command prompt. Due to failure to delete higher folders, I am down at the lowest folder in a branch, "Documents", which is an empty folder. I would be grateful for any advice

C:vuimount5165804536UsersAdministrator>dir
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 846E-81AE
Directory of C:vuimount5165804536UsersAdministrator
02/11/2006 14:04 <DIR> .
02/11/2006 14:04 <DIR> ..
02/11/2006 14:04 <DIR> Documents
0 File(s) 0 bytes
3 Dir(s) 8,987,209,728 bytes free......
You can see from the dialog that the "del" command silently failed to delete the empty folder, "Documents".

Disk Management Vs Acronis, Move The Entire User Folder

Mar 26, 2008

Recently replaced an ACER factory load with a clean install of VISTA Home Preimum. My HD has 3 partitions C (228gb), D (227gb), and hidden (9gb). Would like to get rid of the hidden (ACER factory load ). My HD is 500 GB and my total use is 51 GB on C. Would it make sense to create 3 partitions C (small) for Vista and applications, D (small) for data and E (whats left) for whatever.

Is it possible / pratical to move the entire User folder to D or would this actually cause more future trouble than it is worth. Can any of this be done with Disk Management (when I right click on the hidden I get no options) or is a third party solution required ? Or should I just leave well enough alone

Physical Memory/RAM

Jun 30, 2008

I have an HP Desktop Pavilion m8150n, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Windows Vista Ultimate (32), 4GB RAM, 640GB hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS. I have upgrade Vista with sp1. I have been having some problems with my pc hesitating when I'm clicking on things in a game. I have just recently upgraded my memory from 3 to 4GB, thinking this would solve my problem. It hasn't. When I go into the Task Manager, it shows Physical Memory (MB) Total 3581, Cached 2730 and only 56 Free. Is this my problem? I have a long list of processes and services running and I'm sure I don't need all of this running at the same time. This could also be causing my problem, but not sure. I have shut down some of these processes, but I'm not sure which ones I actually need to run the computer. This problem is extremely frustrating. I have 211GB free on my hard drive and the box is checked for Index drive for faster searching. I would be happy to provide any other information.

4 GO Ram : Memory Still Cannot Use Physical

Mar 23, 2008

It showed 3,325 GO on the desktop before I upgraded to SP1 RC. Now it shows 4,0. Same thing happenned when I upgraded to 4 GO to my laptop. Since SP1 RC was already installed, it showed 4 GO right off he bat. I guess it only shows the total memory but still cannot use it since the physical limitations are still there. Or are they? Of course I am using Vista Business on both systems, x32 version .

How Windows Uses Physical Memory

May 21, 2008

I'm trying to settle a debate with someone about how Windows (32bit)
allocates memory. In short, my opponent seems to think that ALL applications
will be swapped in and out of the SAME 2 GB of *physical* memory. I suggested
that this was nonsense and instead the OS will use whatever physical memory
it has available. Thus, in theory, if you have a 4 GB system with no swap
file, you could run three applications that take 1 GB assuming that the OS is
consuming no more than 1 GB. Can I get an engineer at Microsoft to confirm
that this is how it works and if so, can I get a link that outlines that
architecture?

Physical Router Address

Mar 23, 2008

I live in a congested area. On one glorious morning my fiddling around with the wifi card allowed me to discover that I was able to access a 54g Wifi (lynksys) Internet connection. My experience with high speed was null so you could imagine my delight. Prior to this I was using "Netzero" which is like being homeless. My Question is- How can I look up the physical Router address that is providing me access? Its important to me because I could be sniped off easily for many reasons and to share the cost with a good neighbor is the moral thing to do. One exception is, if it???s the Hotel near-by.

Installed Physical Memory

Jul 6, 2009

ive always ran XP but i heard from a friend that XP could only read up to 4gig of ram. So not wanting the ram to go to waste ive gone out and bought Vista Home Premium 32bit because he said vista could handle the ram.

After installation ive discovered that my installed physical memory is only 4GB Originally i thought maybe all the drivers have to be installed so i did that but still no difference. Then i googled it and ended up on vista forums, from what ive read 32bit can only handle up to 4gb but the 64bit can handle...well it didnt say a figure but just said "all of your ram".

Just wanted some clarification as to what i am reading is entirely true. And whether its worth going out and buying the 64bit edition. Also if i did go buy the 64 bit edition is it easily enough to just install it over the top of my current 32 bit?

Total Physical Memory 4.00 GB

Available Physical Memory 3.16 GB

I'm basicaly wondering why its says that I have 8GB installed but only 4GB - 'Total Physical Memory'? In Task manager - Performance, it says that I have 8GB of physical memory so it is being used.
