How can we just turn only 3 buttons of window vista: "minimize, maximize, and close" into Mac OS X style? I just would like to change ONLY 3 of them, do not need to turn the whole system into MAC.
View 5 Repliesim having a problem with my fave game. Its an old one, Close Combat 5 from 2000. I can get the game to work in single player, no problem, but VISTA has for some reasons erased all the buttons in the multiplayer section so I can host or join via UDP, TCP.Why does Vista remove these buttons? Is there a security option to change so they are brought back? I dont use the firewall, but I see it has some options anyway, and the game has access like other games i do (that do work)Is there a way to allow connection via IP in vista, a way to fix my problem?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI seem to recall reading somewhere that there is a mod you can make to change the style of the tree view from the Vista little arrow style back to the XP and earlier "+ / -" with dotted lines indicating the nesting levels. I like the arrows in Vista, but the indents are way to small for me to be able to "read" the tree view at a glance and of course, the arrows don't show up until you mouse over. I can't find where I read this anymore.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI would like to get vista to use the login style used in Win 2000 ... ctrl+alt+del gives a login box in which to enter the user name and password.
Win XP Pro had this option also, but, it's default was like vista (pictures showing all users).
I have been able to get the ctrl+alt+del part but instead of the login box I still get pictures.
I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Vista SP1. I have many years of WP documents using the "Image on Disk" feature to create my company's stationery on the fly without having to store a copy of the logo & graphics in each document. I used WP's default directory structure when storing the images and documents. Under Vista, it appears to be impossible to create the XP-style directory location for WP 12 or WP X4 to find the graphics.

I've been unable to find this primitive operation. I'm willing to give up search control to Vista for local drives, but indexing our entire network, and each and every USB stick/USB Hard drive seems, well, silly for the once or twice a month I need to search in those locations. I'm willing to wait the thirty seconds it takes to search, because I can normally limit the size of the search ("Let me look through the code tree for December", for example).

These alternative visual styles are replacements for the default Aero glass style and offer slight tweaks on the design. Over time there will be more and more higher quality visual styles released for Windows Vista.
If you want to get started, you will need to download the hacked visual style skinning engine files from Rafael Rivera’s site. Rafael has both x86 and x64 versions available. These modified system files remove the requirement for visual style files to be digitally signed by Microsoft. If you need help replacing the system files with the modified files, check out my article on working with system files in Windows Vista.

I have my Vista laptop (HP) hooked up to an external monitor, I have been using the sleep mode at night. The laptop is closed and on a shelf that is very hard to get to. I would like to shut it off at night. I can shut it off with the keyboard. Is there any way possibly software controlled to turn it back on? View 9 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows Vista Ultimate. Display turns off after about fifteen minutes regardless of whether I am actively using the computer or not. The only way to turn the display back on is to close and then open the lid. This disconnets me from AOL, so I have to sign back on again, and if I was emailing, I might lose my current email. Under Power Options, I have 'Turn off the display' set to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in. Under 'Put the computer to sleep' I have both On battery and Plugged in set to never. Nonetheless, the display still shuts off while I am working. What do I need to do to prevent the display from turning off at odd intervals?

I installed some Mods for Oblivion and my directional keys Uparrow and leftarrow have some how ended up with multiple functions
Uparrow is also esc, F12, b,n and Windows key
Left arrow is also F2 and PgDown
Ive tried restoring my system, deleting/reinstalling drivers, modifying the registry and even third party freeware like AutoHotkey and Keytweak but nothing works
I just want to reset them back to being up and left (i use the directional keys,numberpad, right shift and right control for all my first person shooters and have to relearn with WSAD something I dont want to have to do)
I am even considering getting another keyboard but somehow I dont think that will solve the problem. I deleted the System32 entries for my keyboard and it stopped functioning altogether. I unplugged and plugged it in again and it set up the system32 (installed generic drivers there and then ) and the keyboard functions again but my problem remains.

I have HP Compaq 6710b Vista. I am trying to remove Quick Launch buttons, because they annoy me. Have tried everything, including uninstalling the QLB software Update: I have tried searching the registry for anything QLB-related, but only found following two locations:

These are just Disabled or Adjusted properties, and probably of no use. So to me it appears that there is nothing I can do using registry. Tried searching the hard drive for "qlb" or "quick launch", but apart from some folders and system log files, also little help (There were two folders "QLB" and "QLBTEMP" in C:/SWSetup. I tried removing these folders, and restarting computer, but QL buttons still work)....................
I am running vista Home Premium 32 bit and have just installed windows live mail and I love the ease of sending pictures with it. I do have a question about the toolbar though, it has no send/receive button. The WLM version says 2009 and the build is 14.0.8064.0206.

This laptop is using Vista, and I cannot find anything comparable. Last night I turned it off using the off-on button, so got the Windows did not shut off properly message when I turned it on; and I have a "thing" about leaving my computer on overnight. Also, is there a way of hiding all the command bars to "hide" like you can with the taskbar on the bottom?

I can still access the menu if I carefully click on the border after the padlock, but shouldn't I have the arrow?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently got a laptop, I am very happy with it, but recently the taskbar has been annoying me, instead of displaying the opened program buttons (or whatever they are called, the ones that bring you to an allready opened window when you click them) on the left with a lot of room, the are displayed on the right, and only two buttons can be displayed at the same time, also, If I have two windows of the same type, the combine into a drop down (up) menu instead of seven or do being the minimum amount of same type windows before that happens.

The main button, that looks like a power button actually puts your computer to sleep, not really turning it completely off. The other button locks your computer. I personally do not like putting my computer to sleep. I would rather turn it off completely to save some power and save some money on my electric bill when I am sleeping.
Follow the steps below to customize these button to work how you want them to work:

It looks like after I was messing with the registry of my Acer Aspire 5720 I can't boot up properly :cry:.
After booting up I see the Windows Vista home premium text with Vista's
blue/green background and only two buttons. On the left is Ease of
Access and on the right is Shut Down/Restart/Sleep button.
I don't see the task bar, can't call the task manager with ctr-alt-del
no Start button, no desktop icons.
The safe mode starts fine (I'm writing this while in safe mode with networking).
I've tried repair windows option with no luck.
Startup recovery says: Could not detect a problem
System restore says: No restore points have been created
Complete PC restore: No valid backup locations could be found
When I start command prompt it starts ok with x:windowssystem32 if not little strange since I don't have an X drive . I've tried unsuccesfully to start windows explorer by going to c: and typingexplorer.exe.
This all started after I uninstalled Logmein software, or rather after I deleted all the remains of logmein in registry after I uninstalled the software.
I have a microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse, they both work in vista but I have no software for my keyboard to change functions and my mouse to change buttons. I can download intellipoint 6.2 but it will not install, I have tried all the suggestions on google searches, I just keep getting not enough disk space, well I have 425gb. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have this site whose link is Given that I use it quite frequently I would like it to appear as a button on one of the toolbars but the best I could do was add it to Favorites or to the Links drop down menu which to me is no different than Favorites because you still got to go through a drop down menu. I tried resizing the Links part of the toolbar so that it would be wider so that the links on the menu would actually show up as buttons on the toolbar but I could not drag it and I don't think it's possible. View 4 Replies View RelatedI am the only user on my laptop. I accepted the Toshiba settings when I bought the machine, but I realise that there are a number of features that are disabled that (as an administrator) I should be able to use. for example:
1. Windows Defender will show me the details of start-up programs but not allow me to remove/enable/disable anything (the buttons are greyed-out/disabled).
2. There are some folders (e.g. in my internet favourites) which are read-only and when I switch read-only off, it ignores what I've done - they remain read-only.
I searched for "IE8" and it said no results...find that a little hard to believe
Anyways, odd problem to have. After being logged into Winders for a little while, doing some surfing, etc., I'll go to close IE8, click the red x, and it'll just sit there for 5-6 seconds, and then finally close. If I log off and log back on, it'll behave properly, but sooner or later will start to act up again.
Anyone else run into this? I'm running IE7Pro, but I've been running that for a while now and this has only recently popped up.
