View 4 RepliesI have a desktop that I upgraded from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate and a laptop running on Windows XP Pro. I recently upgraded both devices from Office 2003 to Office 2007. Before I upgraded the desktop to Vista, I copy the Outlook.pst back and forth the two machines to synchronize my e-mail. Now that the desktop is running on Vista and the laptop still running XP Pro, can I do the same thing to synchronize my e-mail or is there a better solution in synchronizing the pst files.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe My Music folder has become corrupted - I can't delete, rename or do anything else with it. It's holding about 2000 files hostage. I haven't figured out any way (despite lots of searching) to fix it (chkdsk, etc. did not work). So, I'm considering wiping the machine and reinstalling all drivers back to factory install.
Problem is Office 2007 license was transferred to me by former employer. It's legal, but I don't have the media. I went back to the former employer and asked for discs. After a long battle, they sent me a version of Office that has the other things I need (Excel, Word, PPT and One Note), but it doesn't have Outlook 2007. So, now I have media with valid key for all of Office, except for Outlook. I need Outlook (not express) to sync to my iPhone (which also requires a My Music folder to install iTunes...which is how I got into this mess in the first place!).
Forgive me, but I am new to Vista and Windows Live Mail. I set up my Contacts folder by importing addresses from Outlook Express (.wab file). However, when creating a message from within Windows Live Mail, not all of the Contacts are shown there. I placed the Contacts folder on my desktop for easy access, and when I look there, the addresses that I am missing are shown. It's as if the Windows Live Mail software is using another Contacts folder. I checked the Options tab under Tools to see if the address source requires identification, but could not find such a reference.

I only use the calendar feature of Outlook and was wondering if there's a way to import my outlook file (outlook.pst) to Vista Calendar (seems to only import .ics files) as I don't yet have Outlook 2007 installed on my Vista PC.

View 9 Replies View RelatedBack in the 60s the saying about Ma Bell was "We don't care - we don't have to." The feedback on these threads makes me think that it's time to resurrect that saying. Microsoft is not the 2nd party - Norton and McAfee are the 2nd parties - we buy their software. Microsoft is the 3rd party that installs their oh-so software on our computers and then expects us to uninstall or disable the functions of the 2d party software in order for their 3rd party software to work. Truly Ma Bell thinking on Microsoft's part.
So I give up - I'll not be using Windows Mail. The question now is whether I continue to have two computers running - my old laptop that has Outlook Express that has NEVER been a problem. Or can I move Outlook Express over to the new Vista computer? (The problem I'm dealing with is not a new one, rather it's one that has been kicking around here on the various discussion sites since last spring - that is that the antivirus programs seem to render WM useless, i.e., no mail in or out and no access to the messages in the folders with some lame excuse about the lack of memory etc. Yet here we are into Feb 2008 and Windows Mail and it's advisors are still saying dump the 2nd party software.)

View 7 Replies View RelatedIn XP the backup feature was very extensive, highly configurable and trustworthy. It was the only OS in each I had to do disaster recovery and I can prove from experience that it works (Windows Server versions use the same). You could schedule several types of backup (Normal, Differential, incremental, etc) and could get NT backup to compress the catalogue, which if you have lots of highly compressible documents (DOCs, etc) can reduce the size of the catalogue quite considerably.
Yesterday I asked Vista to do a full backup on the new HD. It only gave me 1 option, which was to choose the destination (the new HD). I did not find options for scheduling, types of backup and compression. This morning after the backup has finished the backup folder that Vista created was 138 MB.
Now please tell me, how come Vista creates a 138 MB backup folder if I now only have 110 GB of data in the disk? Where did it get the extra 28 GB from? If you are going to justify saying I now need to buy a backup application, don't bother. It was there in XP and it worked. It would have cost MS absolutely nothing to leave it there. I don't even trust the backup that Vista did, so I am left with the feeling that I ended up wasting 138 GB of space for nothing.

Whats it for, what should I use it for. or do the things you try and install that are 32 bit go in there, and the others go in the normal file?? Please let me kno what the deal is with that.
One last question, I just got a new system built.. and now I wanna take the HD from my old system, add it to my new one.. and move everything over, is it just that simple. plug it in.. let my computer see it. open and drag everything. or is there ways to do it. Like I don't wanna just drag everything or I'd have 2 of everything. and it would take forever to do it all folder at a time. So what should I do. Open my Music and drag it all into My music new system. so the folder stays and stuff inside get transfered. or what?
whats the best way to just get all my programs, and all my files over..Should I transfer over all the install files.. or should I redownload and reinstall all the stuff I need online.. to make sure i get 64 bit ones if available..?? Let me kno please!! I'm going to do it tonight.
