I've been playing the games already installed, Chess, Free Cell, Spider Solitare etc for 6 wks now and the other day I went to play and none of them open, its like they aren't there. Any ideas on what happened and how to get them back?
View 4 RepliesI recently purchased a laptop from Gateway, and although the Games folder is in the start menu...that folder has the icons for the games, but all the icons are the generic type, and if i click on ANY of them, i get an error message that says: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." ok, BUT I have only the one account on this computer, and of course its an Admin account. Next, i went to Control Panel/Programs and Feature/Turn Windows features on or off...The box for GAMES is checked, and when i open up to see the subfeatures...ALL games are checked...
Next, i went to C:/program files/microsoft games lo and behold, the folders for all the games are there, and the .exe/.dll/ and subfolder with the .mui is ALL THERE...when i try to dubclick on the .exe directly, i get the same message that i did when clicking the shortcut in Startbar (see above) just what the heck can i do to restore those .exe files back into proper working order? I find it hard to believe that only the games files are corrupted...but is there some solution that you could provide me...i have exhausted my attempts to try and find them via the internet (for download)...but since the files ARE on my system..there "should" be a way to fix this weird problem...
I am moving a lot of my games out of the Program Files folder into C:Games so that UAC doesn't ask permission to play most of my games anymore. The problem is that, after I move the game folder, even though the game plays perfectly, it disappears from the Game Explorer and I can't seem to get it added back. The specific game i'm trying with is Lord of the Rings Online. (I moved World of Warcraft and it fixed itself instantly). Everquest 1 also disappeared and no matter what I do I can't seem to get it back in the game explorer other than dragging in the exectuable. Is there a way to get the official Game Explorer icon back for Lord of the Rings Online with the full game rating and ESRB rating and all after moving the folder?

View 8 Replies View Relatedi bought a new rig a few months back and got me some vista to let my memory be of full use. i played cod4 and age of conan just fine. but then my friend wanted me to come back and play some cs 1.6. i said ok ill own you a few times , i downloaded steam (i had an account that had cs on it) and then dowloaded cs from steam. now i was ready for some action , i enter the game and then when i got on a server and was on it for a few seconds it just well exitied (dont know if thats a word ). no error message no nothing it just fell down .. is this meh vista? because i played it fine on xp with my last computer. (o and yeh i dont want to just change back to xp )and heres my rig ...
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn 2006 I purchased a computer from DELL that came with a free upgrade to Vista. Now I just purchased a larger drive and am trying to do a restore. I need to restore the system with XP Pro. first and when I try to put the Vista upgrade on it asks for the COA which I cannot find. I still have the old drive and it works fine. There must be a way to get the COA from the Vista operating system from that drive. Does anyone know where to get it? Dell has now information on this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhile dealing with tech support from a peripherals company regarding a mouse problem, they had me check for certain system files, and we determined that several appeared to missing, including input.inf, msmouse.inf, and hidusd.sys. Someone suggested I use System File Checker (sfc / scannow), but this did not restore the files, and give error messages telling me that there were corrupted files but they could not be repaired. what might have happened to these files (and any others that might also be missing) and more importantly, how can I get them back.

I ran MBAM and superantispyware to remove lots of trojans and spywares and then i ran a boot scan from avast and it removed lots of infected system files like msconfig, cmd.exe, notepad, taskmgr.exe, etc. Now the scan is complete and there's no virus left on the computer. But now when i type cmd.exe in RUN, i get an error saying that Windows cannot find RUN & so on. Is there a way to get those missing system files?

I have the original installation dvd and run system recovery. I am stuck because my operating system is NOT LISTED and when I click load drivers I have not clue what to select.
After I click load drivers a small screen poops and tels me : INSERT THE INSTLLATION MEDIA FOR THE DEVICE AND CLICK OK TO SELECT THE DRIVER. A driver for what?for pete sake.
I click that and I got the regular screen where i can see my harddrives, removable disks and so. I can t access drive C because is telling me that is not formated and that I have to format it.
First of all i`ve got to say that i`m not too good at it(computering) I`ve re-installed windows few days ago and it seems that i have drivers missing, is there a way to find out what`s missing in my system so i can download it(solve it) I also tried to install SonicStageMasteringStudio and it asked me for PxEngine, i found in internet was pxengine3_00_58a, and now when i`m trying to open SSMS application it stops imediatelly, it looks like it won`t happen I also can`t listen some radiostations online Then some problems with my MASS STORAGE DEVICE
View 4 Replies View RelatedI read another thread and it mentions that I should use the system recovery. I put in my Vista DVD, and chose it but it doesn't show any OS (which is not surprising). I don't know where the drivers are though, should I try repair without any, find them (with your help if you know where they are) or install Vista again (will all my files still be there?)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI Have a DOS game 'Chips Challenge' and i want to run it on Vista x86. But, when i try to run it, it says "C:WindowsSystem32AUTOEXEC.NT. This Required system file is missing. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." I try googling it and found program called 'DOSBox'. I installed it and follow the instruction to mount, etc. When i run CHIPS.EXE (the executable file for that game) on DOSBox, it says 'This Program Requires Microsoft Windows'.

I have a mirrored pair of raptors (Raid1) and a striped set of 3 HDs (Raid0) for storage. Also I have 1 veloci-rapter OS drive (no Raid) that is not showing up at all? View 9 Replies View RelatedI don't even have system restore on my computer! I have tried everything that I've read about on the internet. I did the search, I did the windows+R and typed in rstrui.exe but it says that the program doesn't exist. I'm not extremely knowledgeable about computers but have managed to fix nearly all problems I've had with computers in the past on my own but this is killing me. I ran some stupid Registry First Aid program on the computer and suddenly, a bunch of things on my computer are going wrong.
I cannot access the internet, the computer won't even show that there is a network to connect to, but when I booted my older computer with the same modem and everything, it worked perfectly (that's the one I'm actually using now to post this!) A bunch of applications/programs aren't running properly anymore, even those little side links on the control panel window aren't working (I keep getting popups that say the file/program doesn't exist). It seems a lot of things are not existing on my computer!
just got some games loaded and I used to have ATITray Tools which would let you keep the frame rate and temps in the corner during game play, anything like that for Nvidia? Just ran Quake4 at full specs and had Nvidia performance control panel turn the fan to 90%... but would like to monitor the temps and frame rates on this and other games. 9800GT 1GB. ( as soon as the new card arrives.... back to ATI tools.

I have been having problems with games ever since i built this system. Warcraft 3 plays fine but Halo and BFME crash the computer. The screen goes blank and then locks up after only a few minutes of game play. I have to unplug the machine to reboot. I have tried everything I know. I bought a new large CPU fan that has a speed control and I used a big glob of arctic silver on the cpu. Temps stay around 40C to 48C during use. I have updated all drivers. I have switched memory, tested the memory. Adjusted virtual memory. The only thing I have not tried is to install a new PSU. The one in the system is 750w and all the settings match the game requirements. I have examind the rail reading in bios and they all match the specs. I do not have an additional PSU so I am trying to troubleshoot this without having to get another PSU. I have installed updates to the games, windows, and all hardware. All drivers are windows signed and I only have problems with those two games. I have also pointed a large fan at the case just to see if it is a heat issue and the same thing happens.
For Xmus I'm going to buy a laptop and put Vista 64 on it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a client who until recently was able to run MS Games (Freecell, etc)For some unknown reason he can now only run these games by right clicking and running as Administrator. To try and run the games in the normal manner he gets a message "The publisher could not be verified" Strange when it's a Microsoft program. And even when he clicks yes to the message "Are you sure you want to run this software "he still is unable to get the program to run. Some info regarding the system. He is running Vista Home. with all the windows updates. No new software has been installed and the system has been checked for viruses etc. The user was created as an Administrator and he is the only person using this computer. I have tried a System Restore but to no avail. Any ideas as to what may have caused this and how to fix it.

I'm new to this forum, but I already some topics that are of some interest to me. I tried to find a solution for my problem, but I couldn't find any... I try to play Warcraft III and Fifa 09 and they bouth crash...Fifa verry fast and Warcraft in 10-15 minutes. The problem is identical - my computer freezes and some pixels go bannanas....i have the latest graphic card driver, recently installed latest DirectX and still no sollution... I used the System Info Tool from this forum, and atached the .txt to this post.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI’ve been playing on my computer for a while and have noticed that whenever I play my games, my computer will freeze and hang up after about a couple minutes of playing into the game. The screen will freeze and whatever sound was playing will loop in the background. I cannot ctrl alt del out of the game and my computer requires a hard restart whenever this happens. I have been looking on some forums about this problem with games freezing and supposedly the fix was swapping the different RAM modules. I tried doing that but it still keeps freezing after playing for a bit. I then used Riva Tuner to turn up the fan on my graphics card to 100% but that did not help either. I have the latest drivers for Vista x64 too. I also tried playing the games in Windows XP (I am running both Vista and XP on my system) but the same thing happens. I then started to think if the 500W power supply was too low so we got a new 650W PSU, but haven’t put it in yet.

I am running a pair of eVGA 7950 GT cards in SLI, no overclock anywhere, and I get a very odd display whenever I get into some kind of 3d game. I have attached a screenshot of HL2; however, this also happens in WoW so it's not game dependant. Any idea how I get rid of this crazy display? You can see there is some ghetto lettering that says SLI in the top left corner, and there is what could best be described as a green histogram along the left edge of the screen that "breathes" as the scene changes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIm ready to plunge into vista 64/32. My system is up to date 6600 quad cpu, 8 gig, 8800GT (soon to be sli) and yada, yada. I play alot of BF2 mods, RTS (currently playing world in conflict), Crysis and COD4. My worries are drivers and game patches. I would like to go Vista 64, but is 64 good for games? I know I will get hit with frame rate, but hopefully playable frame rate.
