View 5 RepliesAny email that I receive that has a link in it will not go to the link. I get an error mesage that says the file does not have a program associated with it for performing the action. It says I need to "create an association in the Set Association control panel." Other times I get a pop up that says "application not found". I can't provide any more info than that. I don't know where to find the "association control panel" and when I call Windstream, my email provider, they tell me it's my computer that's screwed up and transfer me to India where I get to converse with a nice gentleman for thirty minutes and who still can't understand what I'm saying. I losing patience.
View 5 Replies View RelatedComputer Club member's Windows Vista Home Premium. The message above says it all. No .exe file will run. I have drilled down to winword.exe, and double clicked. I have clicked icons on the desktop. I have clicked programs on the start menu. In safe mode, I have downloaded a new version of Windows Installer, when Run is clicked the subject message appears.
When using Window Explorer, no .exe file has an icon associated with it! When I open Programs & Features in the Control Panel. Programs cannot be removed as the subject message appears.
i try to open an email attachment I get the following message This file does not have a programme assosiated with it for performing this action. Create and association in the Set Associations control panel" I have been having a problem with my computer for several days now. Opening all programs causes me to recieve this error message. I have to use right click + Run as Administrator to use any of my programs. I have done some forum surfing and tried several recommended techniques for correcting this problem but to no avail. I downloaded the exefix_vista reg file but the very same problem prevents me from merging it (I even tried fixing the reg extension but that failed aswell). I have run the sfc/scannow in command propmt but that came up empty. I would have fresh installed but I am away from home and do not have the means to reinstall vista. I apologize if this post seems in any way redundant but my forum searches have failed me. HELP! PLEASE!

Create an association in Set Associations control program. It also has blockedhttp over the
pop-up. If I get the same email in HOTMAIL and click the same spot it does nothing at all.
According to Vista Back-up, I apparently have errors on my external hard drive that I use for back-up.
You can't do that whilst it is 'in use' yet it's always in use as soon as you start the computer (though I don't see why).
How can I perform a chkdsk on this drive? I'm using Vista Business 64-bit.
For some reason, my laptop has installed 6 different versions of vista on it. On my C: drive they're called windows.old.5 or windows.old.4 etc. They are taking up half the space on my hard drive! Any time I try to delete them it tells me that i need permission to perform this action, but I am the only person who uses the laptop as it is mine. What can I do? I have looked at other threatds with this problem, I have made myself administrator, tried taking ownership over the files, and they still won't delete.

View 7 Replies View RelatedUnder Windows XP I could associate different programs to do different actions on each file type, e.g. open, print, edit etc. These actions would appear on the context (right click) menu for files of that type. Now I want to change HTML files to edit with my own editor rather than with Word as they do now. All I can find however are settings to change the default program to open files with. Any one know how I can change the edit

I have vista business running on an asus laptop. I’ve been trying to connect my HTC Touch mobile phone with the laptop and have been having problem with Windows mobile centre (error msg “ This action is only valid for products that are currently installed). I attempted to run the Windows mobile handbook & keep getting the error "The getting started disc requires Adobe Flash player version 8.0 or later…". I have installed the latest version of flash (v10), have uninstalled it (via adobe’s recommended process), reinstalled, executed FlashUtil10b as administrator, checkd activex & plugin settings (as per adobe site settings), but to no avail. I have also tried to install the active synch (predecessor to Windows mobile) and again, the error msg regarding flash player 8.0 or later required.

View 5 Replies View Relatedim trying to install drivers for action replay ds because without them it doesnt work on vista 64 bit. when i clicked the link to download it, i got an error that said "there was a problem with the request", but it still downloaded it. then when i extracted and opened the file and clicked the windows installer to install the drivers i get the error message "not enough storage to process this command". i tried running it as administrator and messing around with the IRPStackSize (changed the value about 5 times and nothing happened.) what else could possibly be wrong?

The drive is up and running. I can access the drive but anytime I try to Move, Copy or send any file to the drive I get the following: "Destination Folder Access Denied, You need permission to perform this action." I have been on the phone with Seagate for hours, they have never seen this before. I have shut off my firewall, USC, Antivirus but no help.
View 5 Replies View RelatedProblem Blue Screen. No new hardware or software installed recently, last Windows vista update was on 01/15. When I start first, PC passes user registration (boots fine) and
does the normal stuff like loading software and starting the wireless internet connection via Netgear, opening some windows/programms I will close. All normal, but than comes a Blue Screen and very fast shut down of system with restart. Hardly can read the message...Look like Blue Screen appears when to much action is going on like opening of IE and Outlook... or open to many windows... or some bad programm/hardware is booting. But when I restart, restart gives a different blue screens and trouble is much earlier or directly after registering to the system.
But all starting or booting turn slower, real slow now. Start in --safe mode with net working-- the PC works, but the PC can't handle heavy workloads, is really slow in action. I cannot open --My pictures-- to see all picture files displyed on screen (2.7 GB) (the process trying to access the files in safe mode is real slow) and when I attempt to transfer the file to a USB stick, the computer is stopping in middle of action (after 50% transfer)..........
I am trying to download a game file I bought. It is an .exe file. No matter what folder I try to save it to, even if I try to save to a flash drive, the computer tells me "You need permission to perform this action." I can "Try Again" or "Cancel" but Try Again only brings up the same message. I am running from the administrator account. I have already tried shutting off User 'Access Control'
How am I supposed to give myself permission to do this? I've already tried going to Internet options and making sure it is on default... and it is. Please help, not sure what else to do.
I have a folder that I delete periodically and replace with a folder from another computer on my home network. The problem is a message that I get when I attempt to delete the folder - "You need permission to perform this action." Permissions all show full control. I'm attempting to delete it with an administrator account and I've attempted to run MS Explorer as administrator and still can't delete the folder. What is odd to me is I can delete the folder if I log off and log back in again as the same user. Is there anything I can do so I don't have to go through the process of logging off and back in again?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Vista x64 from x86 XP and trying to do certain things is driving me nuts. I have a couple of folders I want to delete. They are not system related. In fact they are part of AdobeAcrobat 8.
When I try to delete them I get "You need permission to perform this action". Here's what I have tried so far:
UAC is off.
Right clicking the folder and giving full control on the security tab Using the hidden administrator account (net user administrator/active:yes in cmd run as administrator)
I have been through numerous Google searchesand found nothing useful.
So I accidentally clicked the take no action button on auto play when I plugged my ipod in and now it will not show up on my computer or anything when I plug it in to my computer. I am running Windows Vista and have looked into my auto play settings and have not found a solution, my ipod does not show up in my computer either, it works fine on my laptop and I have tried it in every USB port on my comp so nothing is broken.

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?

For example, if I want to search my C drive for all PDF files or all photos, the search function won't work without entering text from a file name (which doesn't work, because all files of a particular type don't necessarily share letters or characteristics in their names). Has anyone else experienced this problem, or am I missing something?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhenever I request a "File|Open" or "File|Save" from any application, the mini-Windows-Explorer dialog box that opens freezes and hangs the entire application. Happens with almost all applications. Not limited to just Microsoft programs. It does not matter if I like change the download folder or if I rt click always the same.
Back when it was under warranty Hp tells me to just restore to original settings. I hate to do that. But I am about to see that this might be the only fix for it. (But I am hoping not.) I think it started a long time ago when I was changing the USB ports I used for my external Hard drive and it changed drive letter. (maybe maybe not.. just seems I remember that being something that had happened when I first recall things hanging...) anyway I have all drives in the place I want them now and this issue still happens even if I dont have that external drive plugged in.
When I open a folder with a list of files for all View Options, the files are not listed in proper ascending sequence. I indexed the files to make sure that indexing may not be the factor in the Sort By Name not working properly. After the files were indexed, clicked the Sort By Name item in the View menu item, and the files are stilled not sorted porperly. Has anyone encountered this similar problem ? I suspect this may be a bug in Windows Vista File System. The folder had 87 files in it.

If I switch the View to medium or extra large file icons they appear normal and when I switch the view back to large, they again appear normal. But it created a file on my desktop which is corrupted and the original file is corrupted (neither will open). I cannot delete this file from my desktop or other location now and it has seemed to slow down my PC.
