I own a Windows Vista Premium pc and every time I open a folder. For example "My Computer" the explorer shuts down and restarts without any error messages or warnings. I thought this was very strange as it usually gives error messages. I cannot open any folders.

If I open windows explorer and right click on a file, explorer shuts down and restarts. Have there lost all context item availability.

I set windows to not automatically restart and give me a blue screen on crashing, but it still shuts down and restarts with no warning. Is this a hardware issue? It's done this since I've gotten the computer but it seems to be getting worse now.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen she double clicks the CD/DVD drive on the Explorer an error message appears: I noticed that additional to the default options on the context menu, that is right click the CD/DVD drive there is an extra one that says:Install or run a program It doesn't matter the type of media present in the drive, it will always appear whether I double left-click or Enter-key on it. Still, if she right click's the drive and select Open or Explore or Play, everything will be fine, but I looked over the web trying to remove context menu options for hardware drives but couldn't find a clue.
I tried changing all the default actions for the drive to ask what to do, nothing changed. That extra option is default forever. Also checked this article about Autoplay Handlers And looked on the registry for some explicit Key that says "Install or run a program" and that may be the problem, but in this case nothing similar showed up. Is not a big deal so far, but IT IS ANNOYING! and I really would like to get rid of that option.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was trying to fix my computer. I have an acer laptop and when i was starting it before it would say there was an error starting up. It would then go into trying to repair the problem and there is always an error with the fix so it ends and shuts down. It will start in regular mode it just wil never get to the user selection screen. I also tried safe mode. i held f8 in the bedinning to open up the options and all three safe mode options were working. When i was in safe mode a pop up told me the system needed to restart and when it did it went back to the normal veiw out of safe mode but when i shut it down to try again it didnt work in regular mode only in safe mode again. Now it wont even work in safe mode. I try to enter safe mode and the list of commands starts running down the screen. It stops and then goes into the repair function again which will not work,. I am not able to get past and i would like to know what i should do or whetherthe hard drive is dead. In safe made there were also errors with microsoft programs opening and they would not open. I scanned the computer with avg but nothing came up.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Vista Ultimate for work related reasons. The thing is most everything runs but when I open I text file in notepad then right click to select all or what ever before the context menu comes up I get an error that shuts down what ever program I was running. This also occurs in Sidebar, Task manager, and just about every exe that is part of windows. Third party apps don't seem to be affected (that i can remember anyway) Jest now I ran Paint to paste a screen shot and went edit>paste but as soon as I opened the edit menu Crash! so i tried Paint.net same thing.
I then right clicked the paint.net short cut and hit "run as Administrator" and I could paste the screen shot into a file no sweat. The account is a local admin account that I am logged into at the moment. so I really do not understand. the same with the windows sidebar and a few other apps if I right click anywhere in them they crash then I right6 click the shortcut and run as admin and they work. I even tried going into the properties of Windows sidebar shortcut in the star menu clicking properties>shortcut>advanced>and checking Run as Administrator but Still get the crashes when I first reboot Vista until I specifically Start it by Right clicking and hitting Run as Administrator........
have yahoo and gmail as my emails, followed the pop address and smtp address on the help menu but it still comes back withn an n error message.

Everytime I open IE an error messeage gets displayed. I clicked the "Diagnose Connection Problems" button and the a box appeared saying "Windows confirmed that www.yahoo.com is currenly online, but is not responding to connection attemps at this time. This usually means that a irewall is runng somewhere between the wo computers and is blocking World Wide web servie (HTTP). Windows has confirmed that indows Firewall on this computer is correctly configured to allow this conection. However, a remote firewall mightbe blocking your connection." If you have access to this firewall then configure the firewall to allow connection through TCP port80. If you don't have acess contact your network aministrator or internet service provider. What should I do?

View 4 Replies View Relatedit all started after i downloaded a file and started to install it. first thing that happened was i got an error message saying g.exe couldn't be opened. so i closed it and thought it was funky for it to happen at the time. i also didn;t think it was a file of importance and we all know how windows is. so i figured a restart n i would be ok. i restarted and i got a rundll error C:/windows/system32/ " the specified module could not be found" ( opnnnoMd.dll ) i did find the file after some searching in the syswow64 folder. and it had been modified around the same time i had the error of g.exe...so i did some searching bout g.exe and found it could be a virus.... i have norton ran an update and scan...found nothing

I have Windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop, and I just recently purchased an upgrade to Ultimate. However, when I'm trying to Install it, as soon as I enter the product key during the instalation process, I keep getting these error messages sayin: "Install Windows: setup.exe - Bad Image C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcespidgenx.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."
And then once I click OK, it says under the product key "Windows installation has encountered an error and needs to be restarted." I tried restarting the upgrade, and then the computer and the problem still exists. Do anybody have any suggestions to fix this? And what do they mean by "Try installing the program again using the original installation media"?

I keep getting the low disc space on C: error message, and when I click on My Computer, it says I only have 189 MB of free space on the C: drive. However, when I click on the C drive, highlight all the folders, and click Properties, it says I am using 26 GB of space next to "size on disk". I tried to solve this problem about a week ago by moving 30 gigs of music to an external hard drive, but the C drive has filled up again even though I have not added anything to the C drive. I've also tried using disk cleanup and defrag, but that hasn't worked. This seems like a pretty serious problem. What's the deal?

View 5 Replies View RelatedSomehow, there is a system (presumeably software) conflict of some type that will no longer let several of my software applications (itunes, quickbook, quicken, etc) connect to the internet. Specifically, itunes can connect to the internet, but when I try to connect to the store, I get an error message (-9812). Same with Quicken when we try to connect securely to banks. This is a problem specifically b/c I can no longer sync my iphone.
I have uninstalled my Norton internet security, turned off the firewall, made sure all the software has exceptions w/in the firewall with it on, made sure the date/time clock is correct, changed internet explorer security, disabled as many programs (in attempt to get arround any conflicts) and restarted the computer in safe mode all without success. I also cleared out my host file, but that didn't work either. My older laptop with windows xp and my two iphones are having no such connection issues. So therefor, I'm fairly certain it's a windows or software issue of some type.
I've searched everything, tried as much as I know to do. My next best solution was to maybe do a system restore to a prior timepoint, but using the system restore feature within windows, it only gives me a weeks worth of dates to choose from... I need to go back like 1-2 months now. Does anyone have a solution or another method to go back in time without completely starting from scratch? (I have a dell that will let me restore back to factory settings). One other option I considered was upgrading to windows 7 as it might solve my problem and allow me to keep all my settings. Opinions on this option?
When starting my HP DV6 -1106ax notebook I get a "sidebar.exe - Bad Image" alert. This stops the side bar from running.When opening Windows Mail I also get a "Outlook Express Community Manager: WinMail.exe - Bad Image" alert followed by three other alerts. The computer is running Vista Home Premium 32 bit, service pack 2. I also use Norton 360 The Bad Image error alert for both Sidebar and Windows Mail is the same for both and reads:

I have found a new cryptui.dll file on the internet but it is only 500 KB in size which would suggest it is not the correct replacement. I have also tried to rename the original cryptui.dll file, but could not do this even in safe mode. I am not sure what or when this change happened.
When I attempt to utilize the back up function in Vista, I receive an error message: 0x80041321. It will not let me continue. How can I rectify?
