Defender Removed Trojan Dropper; Win32/Messenger Skinner

Apr 14, 2008

Defender removed this trojan on 12thApril but I am left with an entry in All programs showing "Messenger Skinner2" and I cannot remove it.Does this mean that the trojan has not been removed completely and can anybody tell me what to do about it as I am still getting threat notices from a "Phoney Windows Security" site and full page adverts from all sorts of firms?

Trojan Win32/tliloti.gen!D (remove?)

Jan 18, 2010

This trojan is identified by Windows LiveOne scan. It is not removed, however. This trojan is not seen by Norton360 full scan (N360 being too busy trying to eliminate the one lonely tracking cookie we need here to access our email). This trojan is not seen by Malwarebytes full scan, either. Does anyone have any info what is this trojan and should it be removed (and how)? It does not appear to be doing anything bad, but not Sure...not sure.

Win32 Trojan - Exploiting Browser Vulnerabilities

Dec 23, 2008

Recently I posted about attacks that involve exploits of the recently discovered vulnerability in Internet Explorer. Based on MMPC stats, since the vulnerability has gone public, roughly 0.2% of users worldwide may have been exposed to websites containing exploits of this latest vulnerability. That percentage may seem low, however it still means that a significant number of users have been affected. The trend for now is going upwards: MPC reports an increase of over 50% in the number of reports each day. The SANS Internet Storm Center, which tracks hacking trends, said that while the exploit does not appear to be widely in use at the moment, that situation is likely to change soon, since instructions showing criminals how to take advantage of this flaw have been posted online. According to knownsec, earlier this year a rumor emerged in the Chinese underground about an IE7 vulnerability and in October it began to be traded privately. In November it got into underground black market and was traded for about $15K. Later in December, it emerged and people sold the exploit second or third hand for about $650. Finally, someone purchased those second hand exploits to develop and deploy a Chinese gaming Trojan.

MMPC points to the Win32 Trojan as being the principle offender. However Secunia have a different take..........

Infected Files With Virus Named Trojan-Downloader.Win32.VB.dck

Jan 10, 2009

I turned on my computer the other day and an automatic download started to update my Verizon Internet Security Suiter (FIOS). I started a scan of my computer with the update. The new Security Suite update supposedly found 29,000+ infected files with a virus named Trojan-Downloader.Win32.VB.dck? The weird thing is - When I look for the files that are supposedly infected - or the folder that these files supposedly exist in I can't find it. The virus appears to have created a folder named " ' " on my hard drive - but when I look for this folder I can't find it. Even if I view hidden folders. My computer doesn't appear to be running strangly like it is infected. But the virus scan says it is.

Does anyone out there have any information on how to get rid of the spyware Trojan.Win32.Agent.azsy that we downloaded onto our Vista laptop? Most websites either force you to pay for a solution or tell you to remove files--files which don't exist in the first place.

Trojan Infection Removed: Don't Recognize The Driver

Oct 4, 2008

First time I have ever I have had an infection notice! I booted up my PC - Acer T180Vista SP-1 - this morning to find an AVG notice: Trojan Horse Small AOQ on file C:Windowssystem32DriversmchInjDrv.sys. I clicked on 'heal' but told file couldn't be found and the notice closed. I opened AVG - AVG Free 8.0 - and removed the 'infection' which I assume means the file is deleted. I then ran an AVG full scan and nothing fou7nd. What now? I don't recognize the driver, not sure whether I need it and in anycase I don't have a Vista installation disc - only a recovery disc that was made when I bought the computer.

Trojans: Window's Defender Removed It

May 27, 2008

I just picked up a Trojan somewhere. Window's Defender removed it. Now I'm wondering what I did wrong. A week or so ago, I got a pop-up claiming that I had no virus protection and saying that "they" were going to do a scan. I DO have virus protection (McAfee), so I knew this wasn't legit. I had a hard time shutting it down, but I did. I did three scans in Safe mode (McAfee, Defender and Super AntiSpyware Free) and found nothing. I am wondering if this Trojan came from that and just wasn't detected until now. If not, could it have come from an Email attachment? My friends are always sending me forwarded things which I enjoy. I do have email scanning enabled, and only open ones that say "No unsafe attachments detected". Is it okay to open these forwarded items, or should I not? I have Window's Vista Home Premium.

Viruses, Spyware And Trojan Horses: No Longer Getting The Vista Defender Warnings

Mar 25, 2010

I am using vista home premium with a 64-bit operating system. I have Avast free antivirus installed. I started getting messages from Vista Defender that my computer was being attacked by viruses, spyware and trojan horses. When I clicked "remove all" they wanted me to buy something. I restarted my computer and I am no longer getting the vista defender warnings, but I can't access several programs like windows media player, yahoo messenger etc.

Also, the icons for these programs disappeared from my task bar. When I try to launch these programs from the start menu I get a message that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". I'm the only one that uses this computer.

i'm posting in the right place as i think Windows Defender is classified as a System/Security feature. Windows Defender is blocking my Yahoo Messenger 8.1 during startup. I keep getting the Startup Program blocked notification whenever i boot up Vista although i have already disabled the Windows Defender services. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall YM after restarting numerous times and the problems still persists. FYI, I did a installation of the YM for Vista version and encountered no problems.

Defender Disabling, Turn Off The Defender

Apr 21, 2009

I have to install AVG and they mention that Defender should be disabled. I have Vista Premium and when I searched the Internet for instructions on how to turn off the Defender, I am told to go to Defender and click on Tools and then Options and then go to: Administrator options. Deselect the Use Windows Defender box and press the Save button. My Options does not have Administrator Options at bottom (nor Use Windows Defender box). My Options has two categories: Automatic scanning AND Default actions.

1- Why don't I see/have "Administrator Options?

2- And, how can I disable Defender prior to installing AVG?

Upgrade To X64 From XP X32:vista Setup Files Are Not Win32 Compatible

Apr 19, 2009

I have recently purchased Vista 64bit via digital rivers "Ultimate Steal". I checked through Windows update advisor that it was possible to run this on my machine and it said that it would be (I am running XP pro x32 on an X58i motherboard with i7-920 processor and 6GB ram). As instructed I have downloaded the three files onto my computer (X14-63453.exe, bootwim, bootmgr.efi) and stored them into a "read and write" enabled folder on my desktop. When I run the file "X14-63453.exe" A new folder "Vista" is createdand several subfolders and files extracted but then I get and error message saying "" I believe the problem is that I am trying to install vista x64 from an XP pro x32 OS, and the vista setup files are not Win32 compatible....is this correct. If so what is the work around? In understand there is a trial version of XP x64 for download - Where is it?. Can I install this first and then download the Vista setup files onto my new desktop and proceed that way.

Windows Defender Spyware: Open Internet Explorer, The Windows Defender Pops Up And Says That My IE Is Infected?

Feb 11, 2010

The computer has worked fine since then, I've used the internet at wi-fi hotspots around my city, with never a single problem...until last night. While I was on-line at home, I was checking a website that I have always checked before without issue when my Windows Defender suddenly popped open and said that my computer was under threat and blocked Internet Explorer from me and started running a diagnosic. Well apparently it said that I had like 26 infections in my computer. That I had worms, spyware, adware, that someone was watching my key logs, etc, etc, and it gave me the option to click on the remove all. So I clicked on it, but instead of doing anything, another message box appeared saying that my Windows Defender is not the full version and that I must either purchase the full version or enter my key code for it. I don't have a key code since I never bought this program, was pre-installed.

Anyways, now whenever I try to open Internet Explorer, the Windows Defender pops up and says that my IE is infected and asks if I would like to purchase the full Windows Defender. I have clicked on both options. If I say "no", the computer blocks my IE, if I say yes, it opens my IE, but instead of taking me to a Windows website, it takes me to www.antivirus-care.com, which my browser says does not exist and instead takes me to another page with a listing of anti-virus program sites to buy from. Well, all this seems fishy to me because I can't do anything with the Windows Defender program. I can't turn it off, I can't change its settings, or even look at other options it has. Instead whenever I try the message window of "would I like to buy the full version now?" appears and keeps appearing.

My question is I cannot find the setup6.exe file. I guess it went to the vault? I am wondering if I should uninstall and re-install RealPlayer again?

What's the best rule of thumb to download with safety? I've heard of "mirror" sites?

Huge Trojan Installed

Sep 16, 2008

I am trying to get into my laptop that has vista premium and a huge trojan installed. Everything has been disabled including being able to do a clean install. When I turn it on it asks for a password that I type in.Then it says wrong password and shuts down.Im not allowed to get into my computer for anything. Its an Acer ASPIRE Ive only had since May. Also they didnt provide a disk that would boot up a disabled system. Right now Im on my xp desktop and might as well not have a laptop for all the good its doing me.

Ive called Acer and couldnt get any help from them, even tho the com. is still in warrenty. You know the thing you call the run around, well thats what I got from Acer. They want me to pay $345.00 for a plan to have my computer fixed for up to three months! That to me is unblieveable. So here I sit trying to find a way to fix the poor excuse for a laptop myself. Im not a tech by any means and I have run out of things to try. Also if you could tell me how to get the xp desktop to burn a cd to reinstall vista.

PC Shuts Down Due To Trojan Virus

May 10, 2010

I know is it seems to be shutting itself down when it has just started up due to it having a virus of some sort, a trojan was mentioned. Can someone recommend what the best course of action is in this particular case? I suggested that if the OS (Vista) is accessible then reformatting the HD may be the best thing to do. But will this get rid of the virus/trojan as well? I am aware that this will involve losing all data. I'm led to believe rather than have the original discs, PC's these days come with a seperate partition which holds the OS, which is used when reformatting is required? How do I reformat the HD from here?
