Cover Closed , Mouse Still Wakes Computer
Jan 16, 2010
Vista SP2. I close the cover, the machine is sleeping, everything looks good. Move the mouse, it wakes up and starts running with the cover still closed. Any known fixes? I do want the mouse to be able to wake the machine, but it should not do it with the cover closed.

Everytime I return to work after putting computer to sleep, the computer wakes up without no problem. But once I move the mouse, a shadowed box appeared. With the moment of the mouse, the size of that box enlarges or shrinks. If I click on the mouse, that box disappeared but then a window [View/Sort by/Refresh/NVIDIA Control Panel/New/Personalize] opens. I close this window, only to find the pointer of mouse stop working and the screen is frozen. For now I solve the problem by two ways described below, but it is very annoying to have to do it everytime I return to work from Sleep.
1.I open Task Manager, do nothing, and close it.
2.I right click the mouse on desktop, change the size of Icons. Repeat this action one more time.

I really can't understand why my vista pc wakes up the monitor when it resumes from sleep due to a scheduled task in the task scheduler. I expect logically that when Vista resumes form sleep due to a scheduled task the monitor stays completely off, that is it remains in standby mode, instead it turns on showing a black screen and the mouse pointer and the worst thing is that, even if i set an idle time for the monitor to turn off, it doesn't go to into sleep, that is if the scheduled task is running for one hour the screen remains on with black screen and mouse pointer for one hour!!!!

When I enter sleep mode my computer goes into sleep mode but immediately comes out of it again. This is both before I followed the steps in this tutorial and also after I have setup normal sleep as explained in this tutorial.

My laptop has the same problem. I think it's something to do with the internet because when switch my wireless off it's going to sleep like it should be. If I'm connected to the university wireless it's waking up immediately. The same if I'm using the LAN cable. I suppose you guys will know what exactly causes it to wake up and tell me what to do so it wont be necessary always to switch wireless off when I want to put it to sleep.

I got a new Dell PC which has Windows Vista home premium, and I have a high speed internet service from AT&T, the problem I'm having is: whenever I put the computer to sleep, when I wakes it up, my internet connection is lost, and I have to restart the computer to get it to work again which so annoying to do.
I tried the: uncheck the (allow the computer to turn the device off to save power) for both the modem and the network adaptor which is Intel 82562 V-210/100, but the problem still exist, does anyone know how to fix this problem.

I've got a strange situation. Anytime my cd drive is closed my computer lags to the point of no return. It won't load vista until I open the cd drive and while vista is running my computer will just about stop responding. All that moves is the mouse and I can click on things but they won't open until I reopen the cd drive.

Im thinking that this is a temperature sensor, but who knows?

That devious trick did not work for me. Here is what I did;
1. Create a pps ( many slides included ).
2. Open new ppt > Insert > Object > click Create from file >Browse and locate my pps > OK
3. Resize my pps to cover the whole screen, set Animations as Automatically after 3 seconds.
4. Save it as pps.
When I tried to view, it only show the 1st slide and exited. What step did I missed

I record TV programs with WMCenter using scheduled recording. This works fine also if I put PC in sleep mode, it wakes up and record. Vista goes back to sleep after recording but wakes up to do something at 4:am. Earlier this didn't happend, so there must be some new timed task. I can not find what it is fom "scheduled tasks".

When I try to bring my x64 Vista Ultimate machine out of sleep mode, the power button (which is already blinking) blinks more rapidly, the CPU and case fans go on, the hard drive spins up, but the machine never wakes. There's also no video on the screen.
I've tried troubleshooting by disabling screensavers, unnessary services, startup programs, etc. but I still have the same problem. I even removed the video card and used the on-board video to see if that would help but it didn't. The bios is the most current available and so are the video card drivers. I installed the Vista Service Pack 2 beta but it didn't help so I uninstalled it.
The machine will wake from hibernation mode just fine. Also, I just installed 64 bit Vista. I had been running 32 bit Vista (which had no wake from Sleep problems) but I just can't seem to leave well enough alone.

when I wake up my eMachine t5234 by hitting return, it only displays a black screen. I know the monitor is on because when I turn off/on the power switch it displays the Acer logo but then goes black again. I have to restart my computer using the power button and then it displays properly. It was previously waking up fine.

I have an old Logitech but fully functional mouse (cordless optical).
When I ran Vista x86 Ultimate, I installed a small program that allowed me to double-click with middle mouse button. Now, with Vista x64 Ultimate, it doesn't work anymore.
Do someone know another small program to allow me that?

I have an Acer Travelmate 6292 running Vista. When I connect a monitor and close the lid of the notebook, the CPU jupms to 100% utilisation and the notebook becomes extremley slow. I have changed the power settings for Lid Closed to "Do nothing" If I leave the lid a little open, it operates ok. Only when the lid is virtualy closed does the problem occur.

I have recently developed a piece of acupuncture training software using Macromedia Director MX 2004. I tested it on all platforms, and didn't get problems at the time. However, I obviously didn't test it on Vista long enough, as several Vista users have reported it hanging at random times. I have since tested it again, and indeed got the same problems (XP users don't seem to have these issues). I have experimented with changing the compatibility mode to XP SP2, but this doesn't cure the problem (although it might reduce the crashes slightly). I have checked the Problem report

I just recently built this computer (see specs below) and I'm running into a problem... SpeedFan says my cores are running at 44,48,51,51 (Celsius respectively) and my GPU at 50C. I dont think this is good, since there are the red up arrows and flames next to them. I can post up pics of my rig, but i thought i had it cooled pretty well. I even have a CPU heatsink and fan thats HUGE (liek 100cm tall) that is supposed to cool it and another fan infront of my GPU. How do i fix this! EDIT: When my system uses over 40% of any core, it hits about 50C! Just thought i would mention it.

I think this is what killed my last drive. I caught Vista doing this again which was a frustrating problem in the past.
Laptop. Vista set to hibernate when lid is closed.
So I get up this morning, lid is closed, drive light is just on FIRE, Vista is pounding the piss out of the drive.
It will NOT wake up, it will NOT do anything, it's just sitting there pounding the pee out of the drive while it's supposed to be suspended. I watched it for about 15minutes and nothing changed. I suspect it does this often and this merceless beating of the drive is what ruined my last one.
This is not the first time either, I'd gotten in the habit of shutting the machine completely OFF because of this problem, I've actually seen it pegging the processor too (or at least the fans are running full tilt and pumping a lot of heat...with the lid closed and the machine supposed to be in sleep or hibernate.

When I open windows explorer menu it opens at a smaller window size then I'd like it to, so I resize it and close it but the next time that I open it from right clicking on the start menu and choosing explore, it opens at the same position and small size and isn't holding the window resizing that I did... What I've tried so far to make the window size "stick":
1. Use the Windows Explorer "ALT" key to bring up the File menu at the top of the explorer and choose "close" after resizing my Explorer window.
2. Made sure that the "Remember each folder's view settings" is checked. I've also unchecked it, chose apply, then recheck marked it and chose apply just in case it needed refreshing.
3. Used the "X" button at the top right of the window to close it after resizing it to the size that I want. And finally
4. Chose the upper left corner menu (the one with Restore, Minimize, Move, Close in it) and chosen Close...............
