I am getting messages to run a chkdsk for 3 different corrupt files. I was unable to run chkdsk. I followed all details I found on this website, but I dont have Session Manager under hkey_local_machine/system/currentcontrolset/control. I also tried to download the .reg, but no option to merge. I also lost all sound. It seems like problems just keep getting worse and more things are not working.

My Laptop was taking about 8-9 mins on average to boot. But Runs Great once running. also shut down was 4-5 mins. I tried Defrag, CCleaner Defrag Registry, Registry Cleanup, enable both cpu's at start up,ran Avanquest's System Suite Utilities, Chkdsk/f /r,also sfc /scannow.so reading on some forums, a lot of advice was to update all drivers. So I got Driver Genius Pro 9 by avanquest (Driversoft company when installed)this program found 22 drivers out of date. so I created a restore Point and did a full registry export(backup).next, I let all the drivers completely download, then First, I installed Intel turbo memory drivers, everything was functioning well, so I proceeded to install Intel chipset device software.
3rd was the Nvidia Display Drivers so I made a second Restore point (I had issues in the past with display drivers) So I installed the Nvidia drivers and on reboot I input my password and it says The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User Profile cannot be loaded. I tried to run Restore but it says Disk OS(C) has errors(Windows detected file system corruption on OS(C). you must check the disk for errors before it can be restored. checking disk OS (C) - Some Problems were found and fixed. But at reboot - same issue. so I went to vista forums."Brink" had some great advice I used that I found in a thread, to turn on the "Real" administrator account in safe mode to gain access and I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers under the admin acct. at reboot states corrupt system files (CheckDisk) But when I tried to run driver Genius in admin again to reverse the intel drivers (this shows up as Intel Matrix Storage Manager in Start>Programs) the PC crashed.
I ran CHKDSK /f .NOW I can boot into my acct. but there is NO sound device found, sidebar gadget shows no battery,or battery activity. Also bluetooth Hardware not functioning. The Drivers for bluetooth and sound show "Functioning" in device manager. Someone HELP Please as I spent many many months customizing and lots of money on software that will be lost. It seems to be fixable but HOW?

After two days of trying to recover my vista installation I've got a new version of vista and it it's still telling me i've got missing or corrupt files. Where can get the correct files/ a good recovery disk/ a bootable virus cd (tried bit defender - didn't work). I've read soooo many pages about this and nothing works. Startup repair - doesn't work; complete system recovery - doesn't work; formatting during the vista installation - doesn't work.

Recently I have had three files turn sour on me for no visible reason (corrupt). One of them is a very imporant bit of course work. Im running office 2007 and 32bit vista home. I have been storing the files on a USB stick I thing there may be someing wrong with the usb stick I have now changed it but this dose not solve my problem of the lost files.
I have tried downloading various recovery programs none of which have worked. I have also downloaded open office and that will not open the files either. I don't know where to go from here. If someone can send me back the "energy survey" in working order im willing to send them £5 via PayPal. Only 2 the first person.

I've had a Dell XPS M1210 for about 15 months. I am running Vista Ultimate on it, now with SP1, before the RC1. Several times, I've had problems with files getting corrupt (about every month), which have made program being non-working. I also have problems with the wireless networking, but that's another problem...
I fixed the files with chkdsk and that sometimes solved it. I can't remember all files, but it has been the login, photoshop, office, logitech cam e.g. I couldn't even start up the computer without getting the message - file corrupt, run chkdsk several times. Luckily, the RC1 solved everything. Unfortunately, I had to uninstall it to install SP1 and that time everything crashed.
Now I have used the Dell restore to get the computer running (in April). Everything worked fine, but now I have gotten the files corrupt messages twice. Chkdsk has fixed it, everything seems to work ok. But I think it is only a matter of time before there will be more problems. Running the sfc/scannow shows there are some corrupt windows files. Anyway, I called Dell about this and they recommend me doing a clean install from CDs instead of their image on my computer. I doubt that this will work. The only thing is that this will take an enormous amount of time (since I have to install Adobe CS3, Office, etc), even though they claim it is quick. Their support is pure BS, IMO.

Could someone with Windows Vista SP2 check MSINFO32 (6.0.6002.18005) to see if it's generating .nfo file properly? Open msinfo32, save .nfo file and try opening it.

I started getting this message when the computer boots (and my husband says it jumped up in the middle of something he was doing, so he shut it down)
CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3) deleting corrupt attribute record (128, "")from file record segment 92792
What does it mean, what is causing it, what do I need to do and how do I keep it from happening again?

I purchased a Dell XPS M1330 with window vista 64 bit around Nov' 2008. I was so happy with my computer and was using it until it crashed on me last month =[Dell support told me that my hard drive was crashed so I was trying to get access to my pictures from my old external hard drive... However my Western Digital External Hard drive 500 GB has given me a hard time to access. [. I've tried many different ways to access my external hard drive but I have not been able to access it at all. I have tried
1. device manage -> designated the drive as J:
2. tried using CHKDSK j: /r/f -> but aborted due to unknown reason
3. tried using CHKDsK j: /r/x -> insufficient disk space to repair master file table mirrors; CHKDSK aborted. (I've done these methods by searching online... xD)

Here is my situation and I do not know what is the cause. In the past week four out of five times when I boot up my Vista computer after the initial post Vista is invoked. During the boot process the program wants to run CHKDSK because it says there is some problem on my c drive. Chkdsk goes through all steps and when done and reports the status of what it did it reports no bad sectors, nothing being repaired. Vista then restarts and then goes as though there were no problems. The next time I boot up if on the same day it will usually not request to run chkdsk. However, after the PC has been shut down for a period and then booted up CHKDSK will then again be run unless I abort the process.

I have tried run chkdsk /f and chkdsk /f /v as an administrator. I have also tried through the tabs in My computer. I select the option to run chkdsk at startup but it bypasses an goes right into windows. Is there something I am missing. I really need to fix this because I am getting errors in the Log saying I need to run chkdsk.

chkdsk won't run at startup. Vista Business SP1, Lenovo 30000 N100. I've tried everything including:
- command line chkdsk c: /F
- sfc /scannow
- chkntfs (which says C: is dirty)
- changing registry .../Session Manager/BootExedute value to "autocheck autochk *"
- replacing autochk.exe with 6.0.6001.18000 version
- safe mode boot & command line chkdsk c: /F

I recently have been trying to transfer some footage I took with a camera off a MicroSD card to my computer, but when I go to copy the file, I get an error bubble on the taskbar saying
"QuickTimePlayerMain: QuickTimePlayer.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory /DCIM/100MEDIA/FILE001.MOV is corrupt and unreadable.
Please run the Chkdsk utility"
I opened up Chkdsk on my laptop and opened up Chkdsk as administrator (Whenever I just double clicked the command prompt box for Chkdsk would just appear then dissappear)
I tried to type in a command prompt after Chkdsk asked me the file type in the fist line but no input would occur. It then began to check itself and everything on the computer.
I would really like to retrieve the footage on the card since I will never be able to capture those memories again.

Check Disk Gets to Stage 2 17% And just stops.
Brings up the next line awaiting another command as if it finished.
I've tried Doing a System Restore But it cant since the files are apparently corrupted and check disk cant fix them because it doesnt get far enough to find them in the first place. Just wondering if anyone here could give me a tip on what to do. I would reinstall it but my computer didn't come with a vista disk.

HP Pavilion a6244, Intel Core2 Duo Processor 4500, 3G System Memory, 500 GB Hard Drive, Vista SP2 I am attempting to help a friend with her computer. Computer has started being very slow to start up between welcome screen and actual desktop appearing.I have deleted temp internet files, cookies, etc. and ran malware and virus scans and am now trying to run chkdsk. I checked for it to automatically fix file system errors and to scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. It appears to be stalled during stage 5 (verifying free space). It shows 112654681 to be checked and it is has been stuck at 9123650 for about 30 minutes now. What could this mean? Do I need to just leave it be, or how do I stop it at this point?

I have a Dell with a 500aGb hard drive and decided to ask for a diskcheck at next boot with the repair option. It started 25 hours ago and the screen is blank. The HD light flicks once per second. How long should I leave it like this before pulling the plug? Is this an expected time to run?

According to Vista Back-up, I apparently have errors on my external hard drive that I use for back-up.
You can't do that whilst it is 'in use' yet it's always in use as soon as you start the computer (though I don't see why).
How can I perform a chkdsk on this drive? I'm using Vista Business 64-bit.

I am trying to repair the CHKDSK on my Vista Home Basic and I put the Installation disc in and nothing happens, what I mean by that, is it doesn't show that it is starting to go to the screen I'm looking for (not sure what to look for) but I'm sure it just goes to the Google Home Page like always. I'm trying to repair my DSKCHK in WinRE. A woman from Miicrosoft sent me a paper telling how to do it,but not what to do if it never came up. As usual I probably have something set wrong, anyone know what I need to do to get to WinRE from the Installation media? Its supposed to go to DVD-Rom thing but it doesn't.

On some Vista Business systems I deploy, I need to be able to give non-admin uers the ability to chkdsk drives. I found the "Perform volume maintenance tasks" user rights policy, but that isn't doing it. Anyone know if it is even possible (I know some things can only be done by Administrators), and if so, how?
