I have COD4, CODWaW, Rainbow Six Vegas2 installed on my PC .( which is 7 months old) I hadn't played any of these game for a few weeks, but when I did try to play them I keep getting the following message........."Please insert the correct CD in the DVD Drive and restart".......This with the very CD I bought with the game! Crysis, Far Cry 2 and Rainbow Six Vegas1 all run perfectly! I have Googled this problem...loads of "solutions etc" but none of them seem to work. Activision or Ubisoft will not respond to my e-mails.
Media Center recognizes copy protection on recorded TV. You can record and play a TV movie in Media center, but you cannot burn a DVD copy. You also cannot open, edit and save Media Center recorded movies in Movie Maker. Movie Maker only imports the commercials before the movie starts then stops. Shows like local news programs are fine, but who wants to save those? Media Center's DVR-MS files of movies are too large to copy to a data DVD to save and remove. (I haven’t looked at lowering the recording quality yet.). I’d like to trim the ends off of DVR movie recordings and edit out commercials. I don’t intend to distribute these to anybody, but I would like to make a DVD that I could watch on any player in my house, not just the Media Center computer where the movie was recorded. In the days of VHS taping we could do this. There must be a way to do it now. It is probably even legal under fair use or if not, it should be. I hope Microsoft reconsiders their copy protection scheme.
I just uninstalled the McAffee Security Center that came with my laptop and installed AVG antivirus instead. Is there anything else I need to do to complete the basic protection of my system?
Data Protection is a counterfeit application which pretends to be a legitimate security tool. It is also from the same rogue family as Digital Protection, Your Protection, User Protection, Dr. Guard and Paladin Antivirus. The trojan based software starts its activities as soon as it installs onto your computer. Malware has no ability to detect and terminate the parasite. It only gains that user lose their vigilance and would buy a registered version of Data Protection application.
This is a fraud and dangerous for your computer. Behind an offer stands bad people who will use your money for malicious intentions. This application is not worth spending your money. As any malware this one will scan your computer automatically and will show fake results. You should ignore it. Do not fall for this blatant scam. Data Protection can also redirect your web browser to deceptive web pages that advertises “full” version of the security tool. Do not buy it, but choose decent anti-spyware application and terminate Data Protection upon detection. - the conclusion is that Malware bytes does remove it,, you need to download the lastest malware byte or update the one you got. Not sure why but when I try to open system restore I get this message: "System Protection Settings has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I cannot make or restore my computer. If I go into system protection I get this error: C:WindowsSystem32SYSDM.CPL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
I am running Vista Home, and when i go to copy music file from my windows media player, to say a sd card (have checked the card, seems fine), it will copy some files, but say 6Gb of music will take around 24 hrs. yup thats what i said, 24 hrs and sometimes it will give me an error code: 0x80070570. Does anyone know why this is doing it? I have tried to go into the F8 Feature, on startup, but i do not have the restore option.
When I click a link on an incoming e mail, I get a window come up 'Internet Explorer not working'. In order to access the link I have to 'right click and copy' then paste into IE. how I can get direct access?
I am new to Vista and in my work I write small programs In WinXP when I wish to copy a folder to all users I would use. For the Desktop screens: COPY C:FOLDERNAME C:Documents And SettingsALL USERSDESKTOPFOLDERNAME where FOLDERNAME is the folder containing icons and stuff. For Start Menu COPY C:FOLDERNAME C:Documents And SettingsALL USERSSTARTM~1PROGRAMSFOLDERNAME
Now I wish to do the same to Vista and Windows desktop. I need to copy to "ALL USERS" as when installing I would not know the name of the users , so it is best to send to ALL USERS in that computer. Hope someone here can assist let me know the exact instructions required to do the same for Vista or Windows 7?
I am trying to copy files from my usb hard drive: K: to my network external drive Z: I am trying to copy everything from one to another (files in folders and files that are not in folders)
I tried selecting all and then send to Z:, but it took about six hours to copy about 20 gig (I have about 180 gig to copy)
I read some where that robocopy is a faster and better way to copy files. The thing is I do not know what syntax to use. I was wondering if someone could tell me the syntax I should use to copy EVERYTHING from the usb driveK: to the network drive Z:
My old Windows XP PC died months ago (motherboard problems) and so I took out the hard drive (which still functions fine) and put it in my new PC, but I can't seem to copy any of my files in the My Documents folder from the old drive to my newer larger drive. I've had this drive in here for the last several months and have had no problems writing other files to this 'older' drive (250 gig Maxtor 16mb cache, 7,200RPM drive (btw it's only a year old), but when I try to copy files to another drive I get the following error message: "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this file." This only happens with files that are in the My Documents folder. My current login has administrator rights, so I'm thinking some how this has something to do with this drive being from a different computer's installation of XP.
I have Kaspersky and it seems to be ok. But it is very weird and pretty hard to use. Im not sure if i want it anymore but i need to be 100% sure of another program before i uninstall the other one. I also wanted to know if it is possible to have 2 security protection on your computer at once. I would only want this because i would never want to have my computer being used without virus protection.
I need a firewall & AV protection, I'm kinda settled on getting: COMODO Firewall and AVAST. 'm looking at Comodo Internet Security v3.3 only the firewall part and then the free Avast whic has caught everything for me in the past but on XP; now I'm using vista ultimate 32bit. I wanted to run it by here first to see if anyone has good/bad experience with the two programs running together.
I'm running Vista Home Edition on my laptop. What can I do to prevent ANYONE besides myself from logging on? I live with an IT person and he has logged on even though I have never given him my password.
I had something come up on my screen warning me about 2 trojans and I need to install XP antivirus protection..is this part of windows? It is trojan MYtob.mailer and Zlob.z. Is this for real? It has the microsoft logo, and looks official, but I'm always a bit skeptical of these things..I was afraid to click on install, not knowing what it was. I thought it would have already been installed. I have Vista.
Get the latest definitions - Microsoft Malware Protection Center Hopefully this site hasnt been hijacked, but as of friday evening, i have not found one update to this MS program. Definition Change Log is the same one that i downloaded on Friday the 25th of Sept. i.e., Ver. 1.67.62.0. Would anyone know if the site is down, or has MY listing for this site been hijacked.
I turned my computer off the night before but then when i turned it on the next morning my Avast On Access Protection won't start up.. and also my wireless network connection won't connect. only a few programs start up. now i figured a way to fix this but not permanently.
i would have to log into another Administrator account then do a system restore on with that account because on the regular Administrator account it wouldn't open and everything seems to work fine, Shuts down then restores and files and settings then restarts and from there i am able to log into the first Administrator account and everything starts up fine but then when i shut the computer down and start it back up the problem just happens again.
What i also noticed is that when i click shut down from the start menu that is when everything seems to load up like normal but the system is already about to shut down so it just closes again. now this only happens in XP and my vista partition is perfectly fine but i figured i'd post this problem in here
I'm not offered Vista SP1 from Windows Update. I have Windows Vista Premium installed and use Symantec Endpoint Protection. I know the wgx.sys is stopping delivery of SP1 for older version. I have about two weeks ago upgrade Symantec to the new version compatbile with SP1.I have also downloaded the MS readiness tool. There is no hardware driver shown in Windows Update for my computer, which could cause stopping SP1. Is there a way to find out, why I don't get SP1 via Windows Update delivered? All updates are coming through. The last ones was on Tuesday.
I bought Dreamfall The Longest Journey yesterday and although its installed fine, a copy protection program it forces you to install adds a driver to the windows directory. A driver that someone decided would be better if it weren’t digitally signed... Anyway my computer is now spitting it's dummy out on boot unless I tape it in with the advanced boot menu. Is there anything I can do about this? or do I just have to put up with pressing F8 every time my pc starts until I get bored and uninstall the game. The driver is called sfsync04.sys. I heard there is a way to make Vista always forego driver checking on boot but I'd rather not do that as I don’t see the point of compromising my pc's security for the sake of one game.
i just got a new 2 gig micro SD card for my phone. I put it in the front card reader of m computer, but when I try to add anything to it, it says, "this disk is write protected, to add anything remove write protection".
I am having a problem with knowing what works best with vista, i have vista home basic 32 bit and the laptop came with mcfee security center which i guess is anti virus and firewall etc etc...however my windows firewall says its running to and the mcfee i think is only valid for 30 days. my question is what is the best firewall and anti virus software to use? does the windows firewall work that well, if so people have said to download avast for full protection and leave it as it is.
Upon accessing Windows Security Center, I see both Virus Protection and Spyware are both turned Off. Upon accessing Security Provider - Symantec, I see only Norton Internet Security listed. What do we need to do for the Windows Security Center to acknowledge Norton 360 installed and working well?
After reading different posts, I am uninstalling my Symnatec Norton protection. Does anyone have a recommendation for protection that works well with windows vista?
do think its all bloatware do you think its a conspericy? do you think you can only get through email/download. post your thoughts and feelings on protection and its limits.
with Vista Home Premium 64bit. when I tryed to install "Symantec Endpoint Protection v11.0.4000", it says, there´s a pending installation, which needs a reboot...but the problem is..I don´t even have a pending installation which needs a reboot. I tryed with rebooting, several times in a row, but with no success.
Today, socially engineered malware threats are on the rise and are heavily impacting the way people use the Internet - making it a consumer and industry issue. A new study released today from NSS Labs shows that Internet Explorer 8 is the #1 browser in malware protection and also the #1 browser in phishing protection.
The independent test results showed that Internet Explorer 8 blocks 3 times more malware threats than Firefox 3 and 10 times more malware threats than Google Chrome 2. We currently send an alert when Windows File Protection is diabled on Win2k and 2k3, I wanted to know if there was an alert and what it is when Windows Resource Protection is disabled in Server 2008 and Vista. AND how to disable WRP for testing purposes. Is it possible to disable WRP?
I've tried turning off password protection in Network and Sharing Centre, but no matter how many times I select "Turn off sharing" and then click APPLY, it just doesn't turn off!!! The on button remains!
Why is Vista asking for a username and password everytime I try to access shares with password protection turned off on both Vista machines? Damn if I know. I can use the XP Pro machine to access the shared files on either Vista machine and don't get asked for a username/password. Vista's networking is flaky to say the least. The whole idea of small office networking is to be simple, Vista has tried to complicate this with password protection. Why should I have to have all users on every machine? That's just more network maintenance I don't want in a small home office. Besides some users may not want other people's accounts on their machines but they'd still like to share files and Vista has made this a nightmare.
Checklist: File sharing : On (check) Printer sharing: On (check) Public sharing: On (check) Password protection: Off (check) Workgroup name the same (check) Private network (check)
Logon to the router and I can see the Vista machines and the XP machine and the network printer. On XP machine access the shared printer on Vista 1, works like a charm. On XP machine open a shared folder on Vista 2, works like a charm. On Vista 1 access a shared folder on XP machine, works like a charm. On Vista 1 access a shared folder on Vista 2, sorry....do not pass go do not collect $200 until you enter a username and password. EXCUSE ME! Oh well, so much for progress. Not a firewall problem, get the same result whether or not a firewall is enabled or not. Haven't tried a crossover cable between the 2 Vista machines to see if it's the router but I have my doubts because XP works fine. Solution: Move all shared printers and files to XP and forget Vista sharing.
I had DEP enabled in my Bios setup, but have just had my OS reinstalled (Vista Home Premium 32 bit) and now cannot find DEP mentioned by that name in the Bios settings. There is reference to "No-Execute Memory Protection"-is that DEP by another name, and if so do you agree it is a good idea to enable it?
