Have been using Mail with no problem for a long while but just recently when I click on Contacts Mail or Tools/Windows Contacts - Mail just closes down. I can still use create mail and it finds the Contacts with no problem - seems like some linkage problem

Not sure what is causing the error. I have even tried being explicit with the filename inside inetpub/wwwroot.......but that does not work either. Also - I'm not certain what a 'handler' is in this particular context.........................
View 5 Replies View RelatedRecently i found that after playing BF2 for a while without issues under vista problems have arised. I get random horrible hard drive thrashing which causes the game to just skip and be so choppy im forced to either wait it out (will eventually stop) or close the game. When it does stop it will happen again later...then stop again etc.. I disabled indexing options and defender hoping that would solve it. It didnt :/
I really dont know whats causing it. I even reinstalled vista in hopes something was just screwed up and i couldnt figure out what caused it but the same problem happened again. Im hoping that there are others out there that have found this to be true on their system or at least help me figure out whats casuing it. I have successfully been using p2p connections on my previous Windows Vista 32 setup on my laptop, however, since I bought this desktop with 64 bit windows my computer continually locks as I open p2p connections. Included programs which cause the lock are, Azureus, Blizzard Downloader, and Bit Torrent. I believe this may be a port issue. Not sure however. Has anyone had this issue with 64 bit Vista?
The freeze is almost instant as the program opens. Within 5 seconds of opening any of the above programs the comptuer locks/freezes requiring a restart as I can do nothing else. This is why I suspect a port problem; it seems as the firewall opens the p2p port, the computer instantly freezes.
I am having problems importing contacts into Vista Contacts. I tried 2 things :
1/ LDIF
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under an LDIF format.
I then imported this LDIF file within Contacts
The import stops 1/5 of the way, simply saying that there is an error
in the contacts, and it stays stuck
2/ CVS
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under a CVS file. I then tried to import the file within Contacts but cannot do the mapping:
- all column headings are lumped together, with plenty of ","
- all accentuated caracters are replaced by squares
Also, with the LDIF method, 50 contacts out of 300 were imported. In these imported contacts, all accentuated caracters were replaced by symbols. I opened the CVS file in Microsoft Excel: everything is fine.
I installed Outlook 2003 on my computer which has Vista Ultimate so I could use a Dell Axim. Now when I go to fax a document using Windows Fax and Scan and try to select a contact, Outlook Contacts is displayed instead of Windows Contacts. It won't let me choose to use Windows Contacts either. I tried using Default Programs to associate Windows Contacts with it's defaults but that didn't work.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been trying for hours, now. My problem is that the contacts fields get all mixed up because they were outlook and them gmail, and now back to outlook 2007. But when I try to export them to Windows Vista Contacts I loose all information. My outlook 2007 is a trial version and will expire next time I turn it on, so I have to get it done today.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI noticed today my mouse causes strange behavior now and then such as click and hold titlebar of my browser and it maximizes it when i only wanted to move it a bit,click close button on say wordpad and some game mod zip file under the close button i clicked opens up,in my thunderbird email client when i click a message to read it a window opens with the message i clicked in it,and after installing three new games on my computer one of the icons i clicked and held to move it just started the game!No major problems so far,just occasional irritants throughout the day.Anyone knows what happened?How to fix this?
Edit 1:I clicked a zip file for a game soundtrack and then extract.When i checked "create a folder from archive name" and "Use subfolder info" the checkmark appeared then disappeared in each box i clicked.I clicked again carefully and the checkmarks stayed.Seems my mouse is VERY sensitive today for some reason!Oh,and i use zipgenius for the unzipping of the file. Edit 2:I tried to move the newly created folder with the soundtrack files to my music folder and they did the second time.The first time i clicked and held the file it opened it.Seems my mouse has become Way to sensitive!
I have a problem regarding my Vista installation. I'm using it for a while now but since a few days I get lots of freezes, hangs and crashes of my Vista and I cannot figure out what is causing these crashes. I'll explain the symptomps first: Somethimes it happens after the PC was running for hours sometimes it happens right after logging in. When the PC starts to freeze first one or two programs will stop to react, until everything freezes and won't react anymore. Funny about this is though that I can still talk in Vent and hear until the very last moment. Sometimes though the entire systems just starts to lag like crazy. If I have task manager opened there's no prcess using up CPU% other than System Idle Process. However in Reliability and Performance Monitor the CPU is usage is at exactly 50%. One core (I run a Core 2 Duo) is always at 100% and the other is at 0% and suddenly they switch and the other will be at 100% while the first is at 0%. That happens until finally the CPU calms down again. Just a few second after that though the system will BSOD and tell me a crucial system process was terminated....

I also did this when I set up the Windows Mail account. Regularly, email stops coming to my blackberry and I have to validate my password on my blackberry constantly. Does Windows Mail have anything to do with this?

I currently own a audio input interface called MobilePre USB. I have recently purchased a computer with Windows Vista which (I think) is using service pack one (not sure how to check this!). The audio interface has been causing my computer to crash (blue screen) and having contacted the company they have told me that the hardware is not supported by Vista service pack one. They did say though that I can "roll-back" my system which would cure the problem. I am unsure about how to do this or whether this is safe to do.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I have my display adapter (nvidia 7300 gs) enabled as normal, Vitsa freezes at a random time. It occurs more frequently when running video files, but can happen with no applications open. When I disable this display adapter and run on the on-board one, the problem does not occur, but then I cannot run anything that needs direct x. I think the issue is due to the driver for the nvidia 7300 gs. I have rolled back the driver, but this has not helped. And I downlaoded the latest driver from nvidia's website, but this has not helped. Through device manager, I have unistalled and re-installed the nvidia 7300 gs.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with the Vista program Windows Contacts in conjunction with using email programs. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I like to use Outlook 2000 as my email program. I have the same problem if I use Windows Mail as my email program. I can use Outlook to send and receive email, but I cannot add any contacts to Windows Contacts. Also when creating a new email, if I click on the To… button to get to Windows Contacts, I get the error message “The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If this problem persists, restart Outlook.”, which of course does not help.
I am not sure, but I think I created the problem by importing Outlooks 2000 contacts from my old PC in an improper format into Outlook 2000 on my new Vista PC (which is where the problem is).
I've attempted to send my old contact list to 'Windows mail' but have not been successful at this point. What am I doing wrong?

Anyways, odd problem to have. After being logged into Winders for a little while, doing some surfing, etc., I'll go to close IE8, click the red x, and it'll just sit there for 5-6 seconds, and then finally close. If I log off and log back on, it'll behave properly, but sooner or later will start to act up again.
Anyone else run into this? I'm running IE7Pro, but I've been running that for a while now and this has only recently popped up.
I can't close anything I open, only through task bar, but the X (close ) minimise maximise etc are disabled plus right click context on the windows only... (I can right click on start taskbar etc)... this is after i installede bootskin (which had an error whilst installing.. about somethign.. then uninstalled it but still foooked vista).. if i cant fix this i need to reinstall never come across this problem before sigh.

so, i think i can turn on windows by sliding the power button anytime - even the lid is closed.
but it is not like that. i can turn on windows when i open the lid only.
i connect my laptop to TV (as dock, via HDMI port) to work and see movies at home.
now, i change the power setting to do nothing when i closing the lid.
its work out, but i still mess up when i thought that i need to open a lid, turn on, and close the lid again!

I'm running Vista x64 Ultimate on a new Dell XPS 1330. I have set the laptop lid power option to "do nothing" (as I've always done). Whenever I close the laptop lid, however, it looks like the machine attempts to suspend, then it reboots and comes back with the "Windows has recovered from a mighty serious error" message. I've searched and searched and not found any answer to this. All my drivers are up to date, I've WindowsUpdated, and I have no oddball hardware etc.

I cannot pinpoint the exact date this first started happening, mainly because I use Firefox for most of my browsing. There are however some sites out there that still do not like Firefox.So on the rare occasion I am forced to use IE, I click on the icon IE opens, the second I try and type in the search bar it shuts down. I have tried upgrading to IE 8 and the same problem still exists.I have run my anti virus and also superANTIspyware, to make sure no nasties have made there way in. They both come up clean.Also if I get an email, that has a URL attached, I can click it open (IE is still mydefault browser), and it will take me to the page.But once again the second I try and type something into the search bar wham its gone. and if I try to use ctrl it disappears also.It never used to do this, I have to date tried :-

About a week ago a strange new problem started. I have a Toshiba laptop with Vista Home and dual core processor. Lately on SOME occasions the computer reboots itself when I close the lid. It does not do it every time and will shut down fine every time normally. But on some shut downs, when I close the lid the system reboots. It might do this a couple of times in a row and it might not do it for 3 or 4 shut downs. I use the shut down from the start menu. I have changed all of the setting for power settings and what to do when the lid is shut to either never or do nothing and it does not affect it. This computer is only about 4 months old. I have done a restore point before this started but no help.
View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen I send an e-mail it goes directly into my outbox without being sent. I click on Send/Receive but nothing happens. If I then close down windows mail, as I re-open it the mail then gets sent as normal. I have no problem receiving messages.
I have downloaded the 32-bit version update and tried the 64-bit version (says not applicable to my system) but this has made no difference. I am using PC Tools firewall plus and avast anti-virus protection.
I set my power settings to go to sleep upon closing the lid of my laptop, but for some reason over the past few weeks it has decided to randomly restart the computer instead of just going to sleep. This doesn't happen all the time, but with relative frequency. Another problem with it is that every time it does this (meaning everytime it chooses to restart upon closing the lid, not every time I restart otherwise) is that it clears all of my cookies, as well.
