Blue Screen In 32bit Home Premium

Oct 24, 2009

Attached are the debug logs. The crashes started happening on the Thursday morning of Oct. 22. The first one happened at around 3 AM. The second one, on the 23rd, happened at around 2 AM. The 3rd one, on the 24th, happened at around 2 AM as well. The 4th one was less than a hour later than the 3rd one, when I was doing something with the kernel memory dump file. Perhaps I was opening it. The 3rd and 4th ones were the ones that I actually saw happening. The 3rd one happened when I was sitting there, but not doing anything to the computer at the moment. The 4th one happened when the computer was not being responsive when I was trying to view the kernel dump file, or when I was trying to close the Notepad2 that I was using to view the kernel dump file..........

Blue Screens: Windows Home Premium 64bit

Dec 31, 2008

I was having constant blue screens in my new Gateway comp. Its a laptop, M Series, 15.4 inch screen. It brought along the Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit OS with SP1. Dual processors, 4GB of memory. After countless of blue screens, they seemed to come and go, I figured the comp was just being dumb. I unistalled all the things I had placed on it [which really wasn't much] so the laptop was running with all the things it brought from scratch only. Blue screens disappeared for a day or so, and then came again, though with less frequency. I was using it today, left it for a few minutes, and when I returned it had gone to the usual stand by mode.

Moved the cursor so it would restore, but after twenty minutes of a blank black screen I decided to turn it off and on again. And that's when it started to refuse to boot. Whenever it tries the bar appears for a minute or so, and afterwards it's replaced by the BSOD. To my disdain they always disappear quickly, so the most I can read on it is something about a driver malfunction, or whatever, and the error code 0x0000007E. So yeah, if anyone has a clue as to why it won't boot, and how to fix it, I'd be grateful. Of course, I could just re-format it -- but I want to leave that option as a last case scenario.

Home Premium Boots To Black Screen

Oct 26, 2009

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300D -01Q (PSLC0C-01Q08C) that is running Vista Home Premium (SP unknown). The kernel completely loads to a black screen (active / backlit black) with only a moveable mouse pointer. None of the Recovery Options have helped and I can't do an Upgrade Install because I can't get to the GUI.

My priority and objective is to save this system and preserve files, programs and settings. I read Brink's How to Repair and Verify the Integrity of Vista System Files with System File Checker and I'd like to try sfc /scannow, however, I get the following:........

Windows Home Premium Black Screen

Apr 24, 2008

I've had my HP laptop for almost about a year, and two days ago I started it up and logged in. Once logged in the screen went completely black except for the cursor. No message, no text, just black with a cursor. At first I thought it was a crash, but after several reboots still nothing. Eventually I tried Ctrl-Alt-Delete and got task manager, and then managed to get some apps up including a web browser. This doesn't sound like the descriptions of reduced functionalty mode I've read here and elsewhere. Is it? I tried going back to the oldest restore point, 2 weeks ago (I've had two auto-updates since then) but no change. Also tried running slui.exe as was suggested in anothe post here and all it says is "Activation Successful".What's going on and how can I get my system back?

Home Basic Memory Upgrade To 4gb - Blue Screen

Jun 28, 2008

I've been browsing the forum watching several posts on Windows Vista and 4Gb memory issues, but couldn't find a solution. I have a Sony Vaio NR210FH. I upgraded memory to 4 Gb (2 x 2Gb). BIOS recognizes ok, but Vista Home Basic doesn't start. If I only use one 2Gb, it works ok.

Windows Home Premium: Profile Screen, Nothing Showing

Feb 16, 2009

I am having issues with Vista. I accidently turned off the computer while it was updating with Windows Update. Now, when I try to turn it on again, the only issue is the Windows Profile screen where you log in to your account. There is nothing showing on the screen instead. The mouse works alright. I can move around on the screen.

How To Bring The Admin Login Option On The Welcome Screen In Home Premium

Oct 19, 2009

I am using a Dell XPS 1330 machine running Vista Home Premium.

I needed to replace some files(tcpip.sys,tcpreg.sys etc)in the system 32 folder with their new versions. But Vista wont let me copy them to the destination folder(system 32) citing admin reasons.

Read a bit and found out that "Administrator" account is by default disabled in Vista.

So ran the following 2 commands from command prompt to enable Admin account and set the admin password.
net user administrator password
net user administrator activate:yes

After that logged off and was expecting to see the admin login option on the welcome screen. But it didnt come.

Actually in the control panel user accounts I can see myself as Administrator....but I guess that is some administrator with limited powers and there is a greater/stronger/divine/all-conquering "Administrator" above this crappy admin category to which I right now belong and which Microsoft has due to some inexplicable reasons kept undercover. So plz plz help me and lemme know how to get that all-conquering admin to come on my welcome screen so that i can log in and try out what I want.

Analyze Blue Screen: No Consistency Of Circumstances, A Blue Screen Will Appear!

Jun 30, 2008

Business with SP1
Sony laptop, fast core2duo, 4GB
Defender+Avast!
Working beautifully for many months, and then a few
weeks ago this began happening:

Perhaps 2-3 times a week, and with no consistency of circumstances, a blue screen will appear. It might happen while working or when returning from hibernate. There's a countdown as memory is stored, and then a freeze. The only way to recover is to do a hard OFF (5 seconds on the power switch) and restart. When it first happened, I had not installed or changed anything, so I was comfortable doing a restore. It happened again.

It's confusing because the stated cause is inconsistent. I've checked to ensure that all drivers are updated and nothing that's contraVistarian is installed. What analytical steps can I undertake to discover what's causing this, and then to help me make the necessary changes?

Different Blue Screens:Look Like Blue Screen Appears When To Much Action Is Going On Like Opening Of IE And Outlook

Feb 13, 2009

Problem Blue Screen. No new hardware or software installed recently, last Windows vista update was on 01/15. When I start first, PC passes user registration (boots fine) and
does the normal stuff like loading software and starting the wireless internet connection via Netgear, opening some windows/programms I will close. All normal, but than comes a Blue Screen and very fast shut down of system with restart. Hardly can read the message...Look like Blue Screen appears when to much action is going on like opening of IE and Outlook... or open to many windows... or some bad programm/hardware is booting. But when I restart, restart gives a different blue screens and trouble is much earlier or directly after registering to the system.

But all starting or booting turn slower, real slow now. Start in --safe mode with net working-- the PC works, but the PC can't handle heavy workloads, is really slow in action. I cannot open --My pictures-- to see all picture files displyed on screen (2.7 GB) (the process trying to access the files in safe mode is real slow) and when I attempt to transfer the file to a USB stick, the computer is stopping in middle of action (after 50% transfer)..........

Screen Freeze Or Blue Screen Needing Reboot

Feb 1, 2009

I've had voltage issues causing my computer to freeze or reboot during games and dvds. Fixed that and the computer was fine after memtest showing no problems. That was late Dec.

A few days ago, the computer would go to a blue screen saying it's dumping physical memory and then automatically reboots. Thinking my harddisk might be collapsing on me (I have a seagate barracuda 7200.11 500Gb HD with the SD15 firmware, the infamous crash friendly HD), I flash the HD with the SD1A firmware from seagate, then it was fine. 2days later, Catalyst started to cause problems by not responding, so I formated the drive and reinstalled vista ultimate, along with Catalyst, drivers from Mobo manufacturer ASUS, plus a couple of other softwares. That was yesterday, and now I'm getting the same blue screen back, or the computer just freezes.

Upgrading Home Premium To SP1

May 17, 2008

I suddenly notice a lot of references to SP1 for Vista. I have stopped updates on my Vista Home Premium, after it killed my WinMail. I uninstalled upto KB 933928, and disabled updates. It is working fine, but I found AVG offering me AVG 8.0, which refused to install saying my Vista is not updated ( after downloading 80MB twice !! !&*()^%$$). How do I get to SP1? Just install all updates from MS? Will my WinMail survive? Or will I be forced to shift to XP Outlook? There is a lot of flak meant for Vista, but my system is very stable ( touch wood and everything else)
Request MVP advice.

Re-Installation Of Home Premium (32 Bit)

Jun 16, 2008

I am facing problems with the registry of the OS. When I install new software, I get some unusual error messages pointing to registry. When I try to uninstall old software, it leaves traces of the software even on the Start up Menu.

Can I do a format of the entire hard disk, reinstall Vista Home Premium (32 bit) again ?? Will it consider my old license or do I need to purchase an additional license ?

If I do a clean installation of the entire OS, what will be the case for Microsoft Office Student Edition 2003 ? Will it consume additional license if I clean install it?

AVG Free 8, Home Premium SP1 And IE7

May 8, 2008

Installed Free AVG 8 here today on two systems - Vista Home Premium SP1 and XP SP3 with IE7.

On the Vista machine, the installation of AVG 8 broke IE7 in opening a second window - it just hung until the "not responding" message appeared.I tried installing AVG without the surfsearch function, and without the Linkscanner module - still couldn't open a second window in IE. Uninstalling of AVG 8 cured the problem.

The installation on XP SP3 with IE7 had no effect at all. IE7 behaved perfectly normally.
Anyone seen this, and is there a fix?

I did a 2nd clean install a week ago to start over again after experiencing slow response and wanting to start fresh. I'm now getting an activation notice and when I enter the code, I'm told this version cannot be used for a clean install and that I have to purchase another license.
