Unidentified Program Wants Access To Computer

Mar 23, 2008

This seems to indicate that perhaps there is a way to allow identified programs to access the computer. After all, Microsoft Office suite does not trigger the UAC and it read-writes to registry, etc... So, what is available to allow Vista the "Identify" my program as safe, leaving UAC alon.

Unidentified Program Wants To Access Your Computer Installed

Mar 26, 2008

Mostly, when I install programs in Vista, there's no problem starting them. In a couple of cases, though, whenever I run the program (whether from the Start menu or by double-clicking a data file), Vista posts a message: "An unidentified program wants to access your computer." It gives the options "Cancel" and "Allow". Well, obviously I want to allow the program; I've just started it! And the programs were installed through a normal installation process. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling those specific programs, but I get the same results. How can I tell Vista to stop asking me and just allow it?

Unidentified Network / Access: Local Only

Mar 23, 2008

I was online yesterday all day. I put my rig to sleep last night. It powered off during the night. I turn it on this afternoon. No internet access. Every other XP machine is online fine, wireless and wired. I have tried just about every fix I have seen:

Disable DHCP Flags
no firewalls
blah, blah, blah.
Restarted router, modem, car, dog, etc.

What can I do or try? A list would be nice. A chatting support option would be nice. A little instant messenger like device with a tech on the other end.

Unidentified Network: Local Access

Oct 8, 2009

I'm aware that this is quite a common issue and i apologize if it's been repeated hundeds of times, but it's driving me crazy. I have an acer 8920g laptop with an atheros AR8121 pci-e ethernet network card. On my older laptop, the internet connects fine via cable modem and an ethernet cable (this has a broadcom network card). On the newer laptop i just seem to get local access only, with a 169.x.x IP address, no default gateway or DNS server addresses. Both laptops run vista home premium, and i'm totally lost and confused as to where it's going wrong.. Ive been searching a few sites and there doesnt seem to be any definitive answer to this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this before i throw my laptop out of the window?

Unidentified Network - Local Access Only

May 4, 2008

I have scrolled through pages and pages of posts here and tried to find my solution. I must repost this issue for me. I had this issue after building my rig and it miraculously fixed itself one day when I powered the computer on. It worked for a few months. Then I inadvertantly put my computer into hibernation or sleep, instead of powering it off, like I normally do. Vista didn't like that. So now I am offline again.............

Local Access Only, Unidentified Network: Disabling IPv6, Updating Drivers (there Were No Updates)

Jul 29, 2009

I bought a Vista back in 2007 and the internet has been working great until recently. I got a rogue on my laptop and ever since I only get local access. I've been googling this thing for around 3 ~ 4 days now and I've tried just about everything I've come across and nothing seems to be working. It says I'm connected to the router with excellent signal strength but then it says the router isn't connected to the internet and I'm sure that's not the issue because the computer I'm typing this on is connected to the router fine and it's a Vista as well so I'm sure it's not a router-Vista compatibility issue.

I've tried ..
- disabling IPv6
- updating drivers (there were no updates)
- multiple scans
- disabling firewall
- uninstalling norton (with the removal tool download)
- deleting my router profile and trying to connect again
- connect via ethernet cord (doesn't work)

When I do IPCONFIG /ALL, I get .. I've tried manually putting in the IP stuff, but I didn't know the gateway and DNS details so I couldn't really do it.

** I DONT have the reformat disks. When I bought the laptop they didn't provide me with one and when we asked for one they said they'd send us one but never did. Now they're closed (nationally) and I'm not sure as to where I could get one...................

How Do I Always Allow A Program Access In UAC?

Mar 24, 2008

I read the "answer" post about UAC, and was wondering why when I set something to "run as administrator" in it's Properties it does not do so on an Administrator account? On the Guest account I have set up the program runs without asking for any kind of verification or admin password, but it always asks for such when run from the administrator account. What has gone wrong here? Is there some way to make a program "trusted" (like all Microsoft products) so that it doesn't ever need verification for all accounts on a system?

Cannot Access Program

Mar 26, 2010

i changed the value to 0. its either for the consent prompt behavior admin or the LUA. now, i cannot even access the program. i was following another forum which said that i shud do that. which i cannot comment onto now it said that by doin so, i can access programes without having to type the password. now any app that needs an admin password cannot be accessed.this means i cannot access regedit as an admin to change the settings back the message reads as so :" this program is blocked by group policy. for more information, contact your system administrator." so now i totally cannot access any programs which require an admin pass.i cant uninstall, install, delete and do anything ease which requires admin pass.

Can't Access The Folder C: Program Files

Aug 25, 2009

I'm logged in on an administrator account, yet I can't access the folder C:Program Files (x86)Everest Pokerhistory. I get the windows message "C:Program Files (x86)EverestPokerhistory is not accessible. Access is denied."" I've tried "Taking Ownership" of the folder using a registry tool i found on google, to no avail. I've been told that I can solve the issue by turning off UAC, but I'd rather not compromise security if I don't have to.

Block Full Internet Access To A Program

Jun 2, 2008

How do I completely block internet access for a program on Windows Vista? Is it possible? I have already tried creating a rule on the Firewall With Advanced Security for both inbound and outbound access using the "New Rule..." wizard. I choose "Program", next I choose the program's location, next I choose "Block the connection", then I check all three profiles and finally a name for the rule. I have created testing rules for both IE and Firefox but they could still access the internet (i.e, the webpages were still loading).

The columns on the firewall control panel show that the rules are enabled, the action is block and all other columns are "Any". I thought it would completely prevent the program from accessing the internet, but it doesn't. Could you guys give me a hand? Is there a way I could make a program to not see the internet (or any network for that matter) at all?

Connect Server Through Access Program: Advice Run "tracert'

Feb 26, 2008

First let me start by saying I'm not extremely knowledgable about PCs. Basically here is my problem: I am trying to play an online game and can't seem to connect to their server through their access program. They advise me to run a tracert on the first hop I get:1 * * * request timed out the other 14 hops go through fine. The game company says it's my ISP and my ISP says it's probably on my end, something to do with Vista. I am running straight from my PC to a motorola surfboard 5101 cable modem no router or anything. Any ideas on why my IP would be timing out?

Cannot Access Computer From XP

Mar 23, 2008

I have looked at help files, I have searched all over the microsoft website, I have looked at previous question/answer topics from this section, but I cannot find out the answer to my problem. I have a laptop with Windows vista home premium, and a desktop with Windows XP Home. They connect through a wireless network. vista can access XP no problem. XP cannot access Vista with no problem: vista shows up in the
network places, when I turn the password requirement to share off in vista, I
can even access Vista from XP.

BUT: when I turn the password requirements to share on in vista, I cannot access my vista PC from my XP PC. HOWEVER: the original accounts on both computers have the EXACT SAME name, AND the exact same password, even the password hint is the SAME! STILL I cannot access my Vista PC from my XP PC.I have tried creating another account on both PCs with the exact same specifications, but even then as long as the password requirement to share is set as on in Vista, I cannot access the files on my Vista PC. Always, the error message that pops up is:.....

Cant Access Old Computer Files

Oct 18, 2009

I just recently got a new computer installed with the Vista Home Premium x64 OS. After many failed attempts at transferring my old files i eventually ended up putting my old hard drive into my new computer, and attempted to drag and drop into a folder i created specifically for those files. Upon trying to do this, it transferred all of my program files, but when it gets to my actual documents, where i keep my most important files, it says i need administrative permission to do this.

Then, when i tried to access the files directly in my old hard drive, it said that i couldn't do that, and showed this: "You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click continue to get access to this folder." "You have been denied permision to access this folder. To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab." and then when i use the security tab to transfer file permission to me, it still doesn't do anything.

Access To 64-Bit Computer Updates

Jul 29, 2009

I recently installed a Windows Vista 64-bit HP Pavilion CPU, and I checked for windows updates several times the day of installation. It took me two more days to find out the hard way that I needed two available updates, one for IE8 on Vista 64-bit and an SP-2 for 64-bit as well. I wonder why I had to work so hard to find out about these updates, why the ordinary Windows Update feature did not work as expected for me. For the future, where do I need to go to check for Vista 64-bit updates? Alas, another assumption bite the dust: The Windows Update page reliably tells you what you need to know about updating Windows.

Cannot Access The Shared Files On My XP Computer.

May 8, 2008

After months of diddling in an effort to access shared files on my XP computer from my Vista computer I was finally able to access the files using Windows Explorer after the final reboot after installing SP1. My glee was short lived however because after turning my Vista computer off and then on again I still cannot access the shared files on my XP computer. I can see the XP computer in "Network and Sharing Center" > "View Full Map", but I can't view the shared files by double clicking on the XP computer icon.

Network discovery - on
File sharing - on
Public folder sharing - on
Printer sharing - on

Workgroup is WORKGROUP on both computers I am able to access a shared printer on the XP computer I am able to access the shared files on my XP computer by using Internet Explorer and entering \Computername in the address bar. I am able to access a NAS drive on my network using Windows Explorer.

Vista Computer Can't Access The Shares

Jun 6, 2008

We have 3 W2k computers and a new vista computer. The Vista computer cannot access the shares on ONE of the Windows 2000 computers. The network is peer to peer and with the exception of the Vista computer accessing this particular Win 2000 computer, everyone can access everything. (we are trying to share a printer on the Win 2000 computer, but the computer rejects the user name/password from vista computer). I have triple checked the permissions and when you try to access the share, you get a user name/password error. You can access the same share from one of the other win 2000 computers using the same user info and it works fine. All Win 2000 machines are SP3, we had some issues on one computer with SP4 and never installed it on any of our computers. Is there an update or a setting on the Win 2000 computer that would only effect the vista computer accessing the 2000 shares?

SP2 Breaks Local Share Access From XP Computer

May 8, 2009

I have a home (workgroup, not domain) network with a bunch of Vista SP1 PCs and one XP SP3 PC. Before I upgraded Vista SP1 PCs to SP2, all PCs could see and share files among each other. After I upgraded two of the Vista PCs to Vista SP2, the XP PC cannot see their shared folders. The Vista SP2 PCs show up in the list, but when I try to see the shared folders I get an error message "\XP2PC is not accessible. You might not have permission..." etc. I've rebooted everything including the router. All the Vista PCs, whether SP1 or SP2, can see each other's shares. The problem is only with the XP PC -- it appears that SP2 broke something.

Set Local Computer Description, Access Denied

May 2, 2009

I have been doing this for years in XP and Server 2003, but recently I have been installing Vista x64 Edition for some specific needs. This code is part of a workstation startup script that pulls the description from AD and makes it the local description on the computer. This does not work in Vista x64 or Server 2008 x64 and I have found no explanation on the Internet as of yet. I have not tested in x86 installs of the same OS Yes, I am running it as administrator while testing, if I do not, I receive Access Denied......
