I have my startup time down to a reasonable one, but my problem is after It boots. When I get to my desktop, it takes 4-5 mins to be able to open any programs. All I have to startup is my AVG antivirus, and sound & graphics drivers. Will post any necessary info.Tried spyware scans and virus scans, no problems there.
View 8 RepliesWhile being satisfied by the cool effects and new interface of Windows Vista Codename Longhorn, many of us testers are what you would call "gamers." The lot of us would like to know if gaming on the default Vista Supplemental drivers would mean loss of graphics quality compared to using up to date drivers on a XP OS. For example, I installed Vista and then installed my trusty game, Battlefield 2. I tried using the new nvidia Vista drivers but the game kept crashing when I start it up. So I reinstalled the Vista Supplemental drivers and it happened to work. Quite interesting. I am able to run the game on default vista drivers and not the nvidia vista drivers. Coming to conclusion, would using the vista drivers result in loss of quality and graphics compared to using up to date drivers on a XP system? Or you can also rephrase it; Would gaming be better on the Vista Beta or XP? Does anyone know if SLI works on Vista?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been playing COD 4 and have been noticing that the graphics will 'invert' sometimes, at first i thought this was because of the installation disc as it was VERY, VERY scratched. But I got a new one and installed it again, then I thought it was the graphics card and was replacing it anyway so I chucked it. Then I thought it was the monitor as Vista x64 didn't have drivers for it. So I got a new monitor, reformatted recently, all drivers are installed and I still have the problem.
I went into my ATI Catalyst Control Center and put fan speed to 100% incase the gfx card was over heating... still nothing. This is what it looks like, as soon as I alt tab it fixes the problem but it is very annoying.
Seen in the capture below, the video card is showing as a 1.0, while I expected at least 5.0...the only place this shows to be a problem is while playing halo 2, the game plays choppy to the point where it is almost unplayable. This is odd however, because it seems to do fine in Dawn of war, DDO, and tribes vengeance. I ran a benching program and the card did fine, fps of 280 something, but vista can't seem to sort itself. We are about to get borderlands for this pc, so we wanted to get this problem fixed first. So far I have installed and reinstalled the newest nvidia graphics drivers, mobo bios, and chipset drivers, and this has me just about stumped. the computer to recognize and use the graphics card? Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run. The problem code is 43.

I open device manager and it says i have no drivers...DUH! i tried to do the update through windows.... no luck. I tried the drivers of the Soyo.usa.com website... it says "Unknown OS" when i execute the installer.. damn I believe I have AC97 integrated audio..

One of the biggest frustrations is the game farcry, my old computer couldn't really run it and now it seems my new one wont either!
symptoms:
- farcry video settings' "auto detect" options choose everything on the lowest settings (thats when i knew something was up) - i change the settings to highest possible and begin playing - at first, colours, lighting, etc apear almost inverted, very mixed up and incorect (indoors)....................
hey, i upgraded my graphics card (ATI HD3850) on my computer and it works fine but i no longer have sound on my computer. i tryed updating the drivers and changing the settings and still no sound. when i take out the graphics card i have sound again. i asked bestbuy and they said that i shorted out something on the motherboard, i told them that when i take the card back out i have sound again and they were clueless about what to do. nobody that i've talked to has ever heard of this happening. they said it seems like a driver conflict and to upgrade the drivers, but that didn't work. does anyone have any ideas?

Mine keeps cutting out randomly, I think iTunes may be the most guilty (usually happens whenever I stop/pause then resume my sound dies). Before the patch I figured out a way to get around it about 75% of the time, I would just close iTunes and any sound/media based program and re-launch them and it would work again. But now it seems that that does not work anymore
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Hewlett Packard SR5401UK pc running Vista 32-bit it has onboard graphics & sound but I've just installed an NVIDIA 8800gs graphics card, the card works fine but for some reason the sound has disappeared!! i've just updated the realtek drivers but still have the problem!! it worked fine before installing the g.card , whats even more strange is that when i plug in my headphones i can hear sound but nothing at all through the speakers!!
When i installed the 8800gs it disabled the onboard g.card automatically itself i was wondering if it has done the same with the sound? but if it had i wouldnt be able to hear sound through the headphones right? device manager says the sound is working fine!
as i start my laptop, there this symbol which indicates digitalpersona personal on the lower right hand hand side of the screen that blinks continuously with a wierd pop up noise. It does so for 5-10 mins at the start and then it stops blinking. The voice is so dam irritating that i have to put my laptop on mute.

ever since planning on a new pc build i knew at some point that id want to install vista on it. Ive planned to get vista 64 seeing as i have a machine capable of running a 64 bit o/s with ease (when i buy my extra 2gb of ram along with my copy of vista) I have been doing my research on which of my games ill still be able to play & tbh the only ones that im remotely worried about are older than red orchestra so no problems there.
My only real concern is the drivers for my belkin wireless card (f5d7001uk) which doesnt have any vista 32 drivers! But ive heard a rumour that vista automatically installs the drivers itself?? Im also worried that some of the useful little apps i have installed wont install such as winrar, wavepad, deepburner pro 1.8 & punkbuster
i have a toshiba m100 with windows vista home basic, i recently updated my bios and then my windows sound scheme doesn't play anymore even if the "play sound scheme on startup" is enabled. no startup sounds, no internet explorer sound i don't hear audio from Internet itunes etc but i can play music files using media player or other media players. i already installed audio driver updates and still nothing happens.

When i upgraded my windows xp to vista about 5 days ago it somehow screwed up my computer. My graphics are so bad that i can't play simple games and i know that my graphics card used to work perfectly. I just need to know if it is vista that has changed my graphics card and if it did how can i fix it. Also for Hardware Acceleration, i can not turn it on because i do not have the troubleshoot option in my display settings. My nero will not burn any dvd disc's due to that.

I went into the registry and deleted the item from the startup tab and I also disabled it in the startup tab. The startup tab still shows the item even though it is disabled and deleted from the registry. Why does it still show in MSCONFIG and how do I delete it from the start up entry

comfortable with installations etc. I have three questions here.
1. My last computer had Windows XP and an 80 gb hard drive with 70 gb full - After copying the data only (55 GB) to my new 250 gb hard drive I have only 107 GB remaining of the 222 GB C drive partition. I have not yet added many programs. That tells me that Vista must be using 50-60 GB or more of the drive. Can that be correct?
2. My new computer takes 5-6 minutes to start up. After two minutes I get the welcome screen. Then the monitor goes black for a full two minutes before continuing the startup process. Is this normal for Vista?
3. Occasionally the monitor goes dark for a few seconds and a window pops up saying the display driver has failed but is back. Is this normal?
I certainly gained no speed with this new computer. There are many things I like about Vista. Since I have no previous experience with owning it I am trying to sort out if this computer is a lemon that should be returned or if I should just put up with the downside.
The last couple of days I had a few times a startup error. It said something like Windows couldn't start normally. Run Startup Recovery (Recommended) Start Windows Normally. I did the Startup Recovery and then it worked again but the next day or so the same thing, otherwise my system runs fine.

I have maxed out every thing I can max (control panel sound, creative panel) and the sound level is whisper quiet. I have also upgraded all my drivers except the prelude's, I would but their website isn't offering those drivers at the moment. But the drivers supplied with the card are vista certified so I should get something. But my mobo, etc is all updated. I have been searching for a solution for two days to no avail.

This rogue is advertised by the Vundo Trojan and is replacing the Antivirus 2009 rogue program that Vundo has been aggressively advertising. If you are infected with the Vundo Trojan you will see a large amount of pop-ups stating that your computer is infected and that you should install Antivirus 360 in order to protect yourself. If you click on the ad, Antivirus 360 will be downloaded to your computer and you will be prompted to install it.
Once installed, Antivirus 360 will be configured to start automatically when you start Windows. Once started, the program will perform a scan, and when done, will list a variety of legitimate or nonexistent files as infections that cannot be removed unless you first purchase the program. What is so dangerous about these scan results is that the files that Antivirus 360 states are infections are actually legitimate Microsoft files, that if deleted, will cause Windows to become unusable. Therefore, if someone believes the results from this program they may manually delete the files thinking they are infections and cause their computer to no longer function. While running you will also see a constant barrage of false security alerts stating that your computer has a variety of security risks. These risks range from files being modified to private data being sent to a remote host. Unfortunately, these alerts coupled with the Vundo Trojan will affect your computer's performance and you will notice that it begins to operate slower.
