I'm currently living in France and recently purchased an Acer computer here, with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. I'd assumed that I'd be able to select English as the display language but, apart from being able to select an English keyboard, everything is in French. If necessary, I'll live with this (it's a way of improving my French) but, if I could do it at reasonable cost, I'd like to convert it to English.
Purchsing the full English version is out of the question, as is upgrading to French Vista Ultimate and downloading an English language pack. Purchasing the English Home Premium Upgrade would have been OK, but I believe that this won't work with my current French version. An upgrade DVD was included with the computer, which appears to require payment on-line; I assume that this would be French also, so it's of no use to me......

I use Windows Vista and often when I am repling (MS Outlook) in email and also in word docs, the keyboard seems to switch to a French version, and french characters display. For example, if I click shift 2, I will not get the @ symbol; instead the " will display.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been inundated with loads of French spam in my Inbox. This is probably because my BB provider (Orange) is owned by a French company (I live in the UK). But what's really annoying is the sheer amount that I am receiving. I have been trying to set up message rules to keep it out of my inbox (looking for certain words or phrases in French etc) but I'm starting to lose the battle against. I don't want to change my ISP as (for now) my speeds are pretty good and I don't pay a lot per month for it any way.

I recently switched Vista's display language to French, and now I can't get it back to English. Control Panel opens, but most of the icons (including regional settings) don't open anything when I double-click them.
I've searched the internet and nothing has helped.

I partitioned my hard drive, installed Linux, added it to the boot loader and everything was fine.
I updated my Linux kernel and rebooted, but because I hadn't configured the Linux LILO bootloader properly i couldn't boot into anything.
Eventually I managed to uninstall LILO and use the HP Vista Recovery on my laptop to use "bootrec.exe /fixmbr" command which proceeded to restore my default Vista MBR.
Since I used that command, my boot loader comes up with Windows Vista and the HP Recovery of which both work. The problem I'm having now is that I cannot add the Linux partition or any other new OS to my boot loader.
Vistabootpro doesn't have the capabilities to add Linux to the MBR, so I used EasyBCD and set my added a Linux entry EXACTLY how it had worked in my previous MBR, yet when I boot up the entry is just not there.
I then proceeded to use cmd in admin mode and use the bcdedit commands to add the information myself....

I want to add more RAM. I'm not sure how it all works.. on Circuitcity.com you can enter ur exact comp model number and it finds what ur computer needs.. so I've done that and have decided to get Kingston or the ACP-EP, both are 1GB DDR2, but both are PC2-5300 (667MHz).. Thats what it said to get online.. so my question is:
1. is it ok to mix different brands of RAM,
2. I'm Running Dual Channel, with two 512 Cards is it bad to mix a different kind, size, and speed in the 3rd slot... will it change how the Dual Channel works... I'm not sure how all the RAM stuff works.

I'd like to do is take a Hard drive out of my old computer (which has a bad MB) and throw it in my new computer. The thing is my old HD had XP Home Premium sp3 on it and new one has Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I want to add to that a Maxtor SATA150 250GB ,8 MB 7200 RPM with XP Home Premium 32 bit SP3. Is there still the boot.ini issue since I'm not really "loading" a new OS but sorta Plugin' one in? Will it boot and give an option on which OS to use? Will Vista "see" the other HDD since stuffs already there? I've read so much on this dual-boot stuff now I'm totally lost.

My current C drive has a corrupt system on it (Vista) It needs to be formated and the system reinstalled. I am considering installing a larger capacity drive as the primary (C) drive , install the system on that and use the current drive as extra storage space while keeping some of the data that is currently on it thus not reformatting it. My question is, when the computer boots will it automatically boot to the new C drive or, as the system will now be on both drives, will it confuse itself?
Also. as my system disk is from from the mfr of the computer, I believe it does not have any of the Vista service packs on it. Once formated with this disk should I then get SP1 and SP2 and install them? In that order I presume or will SP2 alone suffice? Where can I get SP1 and 2?

Is there an easy way to add WinDVD9 to my autoplay choices for Blu-Ray and regular DVD's in Vista x64? For some reason its not listed as an option and I can't figure out how to add it on my own. I know I can always cancel autoplay and launch the App and then open the DVD that way but would be nice to figure out how to set it up so it shows as an option in my Autoplay list.

First of all, I built my new PC a couple of days back installed vista ultimate 64 which is all good. The new HD is attached to the mother board via a SATA connection. I removed my old XP drive from the old PC and installed it to the new system also however as its quite old I have had to use the IDE connection on the mother board and set the jumpers to slave. I want to be able to access all my old music, photos etc.
Now Vista picks up the old XP drive through “computer” but when I try to access it, it sates I need to reformat the drive which of course I totally want to avoid!
I made sure the (ribbon type) IDE cable is using the correct (grey) slave connection and also made sure the jumper is set to slave. Apparently there is no need to set anything else to master as I’m using SATA connections. The old drive was also previously operational prior to the new build so I know there are no issues there.

I had successfully setup a network of a desktop running Vista and two laptops running XP. One of the laptops "died" and we replaced it with another running Vista.
Try as I might, following all the instructions I can find, I cannot link this new laptop. Should I just abandon the old network and start fresh?

We just have the windows vista ultimate with sp1 included. And the problem that is the second product we bought and we can't return. Swiss support don't answer and is unpolite and do close the phone. France support can't do commercial activities in Switzerland.

Partition Issue (Adding Vista x64 to Vista x32 1TB Drive) My 1TB drive is set up as follows:
C: Vista x32 IE7 + VMwares 300GB (Primary)
D: Vista x32 IE8 50GB (Primary)
E: XP IE6 50GB (Primary)
F: XP IE7 50GB (Extended)
G: XP IE8 50GB (Extended)
H: Win7 IE8 50GB (Extended)
Unallocated 60GB
I need to put a new Vista x64 in 50GB of the remaining Unallocated space but keep getting this error when trying to partition/format it: "Disk Management: You cannot create a volume in this unallocated space because the disk already contains the maximum number of partitions." I understand that we only get 4 primary partitions. How can i add this unallocated space to the Extended Partition, and thereby make a partition within it to load Vista x64 to boot up like all the others?

called, did the trick. Unfortunately in Windows Fax and Scan I cannot seem to enter any 'pauses'. how I enter pauses or more importantly use a long distance providers number before the number I wish to dial?

Windows adds a default image for each contact, which you can change to any picture or graphic you want." I do not have a "change picture" or "remove picture" icon.

Is there a way I can add icons to the icons I already have to associate files with, like when I click on the properties of the file and customize it to have a folder appearance of my choice, can I add icons to the list I am choosing from? Or are they fixed when windows is installed? There were threads about these but due to them being very old I was prevented from replying to them.

When I installed my computer I found the standard Windows firewall in Vista premium. I trusted this and did not want to slow down the system by adding an other firewall. Besides, this policy also was discouraged by the helpfiles that came with the system. Virusprotection was not done by the system, so advisable to install a virusprotection tool. I read a lot on the net on that item and finally installed Avast antivirus.
So far so good. Had no troubles from oktober 07 till a week ago. Than I decided to destall Avast and to install One Live one care. The critics did not take me to this. But I think it is a good policy to have the safety issues in the same hand as the system resources are. I take another step and expect the safety cause covered in the system itself. Sell a new car without safety features! I installed the One care, I did want to give it my support, I did not expect it to be bad at all................

Made the mistake of creating a User Account, "the Smiths," and then later changing User Name to "Ed" with password on older computer running XP. Would now like that account to be "Ed" to be consistent with another computer running Vista on my LAN. Is the correct way to make this change (1) change the User Name of "the Smiths" from "Ed" to say "Smith" as a temporary expedient, (2) create a new User Account name "Ed," which will generate the necessary file structure under Documents and Settings along with its User Name of "Ed", (3) copy files from Documents and Setting he Smiths to Documents and SettingEd and (4) delete the User Account "the Smiths"? My biggest concern is the copying of files - most of which I do not understand their value/purpose?

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 on a 75 gig drive (way too small). Is it possible to setup a additional 2 drives in a RAID 1 array in addition to this drive? Or do I need to do a fresh install of Vista to recongize the drive(s)?
Second, if I can do the first, without needed a fresh install, why does it crash at crcdisk.sys when I enable the SATA ROM BOOT so the RAID can be done? I'm using ASUS A8R-MVP mother board. It has the newest version of the bios already installed on it (version 6003). I've tried to update the ULi RAID drivers, but I'm not having any luck. When I use the ULi RAID tool on boot-up, it says I'm using V1.1D M5288. I grabed the ULi drivers from NVidia (ULi integrated 220 bundle) and it won't install. I used WinRar to open it up and I grabbed everything out of the SATAM5288 directory and booted from my Vista DVD and tried to load those drivers, it fails.
