I bought a new laptop with Windows XP in it, I wanted to transfer some files from my Desktop PC which has Vista to my laptop with XP, I bought a Belkin USB Data Transfer Cable to transfer files with help of Windows Easy Transfer but when I installed the software provided with it, it seemed that I can only transfer files from XP to Vista.
I have purchased a new computer to replace my old one(both are running Windows XP Home) and want to know if Windows XP has a way to transfer all of my files and folders directly to the new PC and also I need to remove everything from my old computer except for the Windows XP Operating system (don't want to leave any personal information in the system) before I either give this to a relative to use or donate it.
I built a new computur and now that its up and running I'd like to get some of the apps from my old computer on to the new computer. Trouble is some of the install disks have been lost/misplaced since the old computer was 6 years old. I saw with XP you can transfer the contents of an old HD to a XP setup but it seems to suggest that you do this while you are installing XP not afterwards. Is it possible to transfer these applications to the new computer?
I just bought xp home (upgrade) on ebay from a guy who says he scrapped the computer it was activated on. Assuming he's on the up and up, what do we have to do to for me to activate it on my machine? I could find nothing about this on the MS site.

Transfer files from old computer (Win 2000) to new computer (Win XP) thru a crosslink cable? I just don't know how to do all the settings in both Windows to make both computers to connect with each other and to do the file transferring.
I have had troubles with this PC, having to install a new hard drive and purchased a genuine copy XP professional, which I loaded on and registered with Microsoft. If I now want to scrap this PC and build/buy a new one how do I cancel the registration for this one and register with Microsoft a product that has already been registered?
I purchased a refurbished Dell Optiplex GX 280 computer with XP pro installed. I am planing to transfer the entire contents of my old Dell Dimension 8200 that has XP installed.
I installed a driver/USB File Transfer on two computers and connected the cable into its USB ports. I am not able to transfer files from older computer to a new one.

I currently have Windows 98 on my computer. I got the disc today for Windows XP Professional and plan to install that onto my computer and get rid of 98. The problem i am facing is that i have a folder full of songs that i want to keep on my computer and somehow have them on Windows XP. There is over 730 songs on there. I was wondering how i can keep these songs without them being deleted?
I had just uploaded photos from my 2 cameras to a folder & immediately tried to then transfer folder to cd but got a pop up box saying it couldn't then when I went to my folder all my photos were gone. Where did they go & how do I get them back? Stupid me erased them from the camera after I uploaded so please tell me I did'nt lose them & that they r on my hard drive somewhere!
I have a new SATA hard drive and wish to make it my primary drive (so that I can dispose of the tiny IDE drive I originally had) but my PC did not come with installation discs for XP.I've tried searching the net to find out how to move the operating system from one drive to another but without any luck (all I can find are articles which tell you to boot from the installation disc - which I don't have!!!)
How would I go about transferring windows XP (sp3) and all contents (prog's, folders, files etc.) from 1 disk to another. It is installed on 320gb main drive and I want to transfer it to a new bigger drive (both internal) in the same PC?I have a program called "Clone directory" if that's any good.
I have purchased a new hp computer running WIN VISTA and bought an easy transfer cable USB port connection, but when i go to transfer from my old computer which is running WIN XP, to my new computer before i can select anything a window pops up saying migration fAILED.
I am trying to use a USB Hard Drive to migrate some data between two computers running Windows XP Pro. I'm using the Windows XP files and settings transfer wizard. The drive shows up a local drive instead of a removable drive on the old computer. When I run the Wizard, it seems to do a quick job on processing the C: drive contents. Then it bogs down trying to also process about 30 GB of files that happen to all ready be on the external drive.
My husband bought a new laptop, and his old one we gave as a gift to my brother that lives in another country. How can we transfer the ownership of the old laptop to my brother's? Windows XP home E. and all the other programs installed are registered in my husband's name, logon screen etc.
I have two win XP laptops, and i need to transfer some files across. Is there a way to wirelessly transfer file between PCs, either with or without 3rd party software. I might have to just resort to USB, but it would be great if i could sort something that may take longer initially, but will overall save time.
I realise you've already seen a few queries on this, but I can't find an answer to my particular problem.I just bought a USB 2.0 PCI card and installed it. But I'm not getting any difference in transfer speed when downloading mp3 files to my mp3 player. My mp3 player used to provide a pop up message when I connected it to my PC saying that it could transfer faster, but it no longer does that despite my transfer rates still being the same.I've checked the device manager, and I do get something appearing stating I have a "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" so I'm assuming that I do have the USB 2 installed.
Email account is with a cable co. When I transfer pictures as an attachment they get sent too large for my dial up friends. How can I downsize them form 589kb to a more manageble 39.8kb?
This problem started up after the last format of my computer. I have the usual folders shared on my computer which consists of my shared docs, music, DOD/CS:S maps and games. During LAN parties (or any other time) nobody can get files off my computer. They are shared just fine, they can see the files, but when we try to transfer it says "Cannot copy *filename* - access is denied. make sure the disk is not full or right protected and that the file is not currently in use." The file transfer bar will go like it is transferring, but when it is done I get that message. It doesn't make sense. I have these two boxes checked under "sharing" in folder properties: "share this folder on the network" and "allow network users to change my files." All firewalls are off. This happens over 4 different routers. I have reconfigured the network many times.
The only thing I can think of that may have caused it is that I deleted the microsoft .net asp account that is installed with microsoft .net framework. would that do it? I haven't had the energy to re-install that yet. I deleted it so I wouldn't have to select an account on startup. Anyway, if you have any input I would appreciate it because this is annoying. Update: And I have just determined that I can listen so some songs on media player over the network, but I can never transfer them between computers.
