Recognizing Drives As SCS?

Apr 21, 2005

I have a Samsung SATA hard drive, a Sony CRX225 CD-RW and a Plextor PX-708A DVD-RW. I hadn't used the burners for a while, now they aren't working (can read from them but most of the time won't write). In the device managerdriveproperties, Win XP sees them all as SCSI devices. How is this possible? The BIOS has them as IDE primary and secondary drives, so where does the SCSI come in? Could this be part of the burning problem I am having?

My Computer Not Recognizing CD Drives

Jan 12, 2006

Just recently I haven't gotten my computer to recognize any of the CD's I am putting into either drive (a DVD R/RW drive or my CD-RW drive). Not only does nothing happen when I put in any CD (I have tried many), but also when I open up My Computer I don't see any drives listed under "Devices with Removable Storage" besides my 3 1/2 Floppy (A drive. What can I do to make my drives work again? I did build my computer, but everything has been working smoothly until this.

Computer Not Recognizing D & E Drives

Dec 13, 2004

Over the weekend while doing some electrical work, I shut off the power to the room containing my computer. I had a hard time getting it to Start Up, but all seemed fine accept I had to re-set the clock. Then I shortly discovered that it would not recognize either D: or E: drive, I finally did get them both to recognize an audio cd but only after opening them through WMP. Usually they start when placed in the drive, and it will use my default player (Nero). When I looked in "My Computer" it prompts me to insert a disk ?? I am running Windows 2000 NT Pro and the C: drive seems to be operating fine.

Not Recognizing File Systems On Drives

Aug 23, 2005

I have a Western Digital 20 GB secondary internal hard disk as E:. It has been working fine for the last two years. Recently, while trying to access this disk, Windows displays message, "The disk in this drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" When I insert a CD into the D: it spins for ~5-10 secs but then shows nothing in the right pane of Windows Explorer. Does not even give me the usual prompt to, "Please insert a disk into drive D:". It doesn't hang Windows Explorer, just sits there with D: actually selected in left pane. This is particularly odd as normally one would get the "insert disk" prompt. To test for drive readability, I successfully *booted* from the Windows XP installation CD-ROM. It read the CD fine so not a defective or broken CD-ROM. This also rules out that maybe the CD I inserted was bad or had
scratches.

When I insert either om my two SanDisk USB 512MB flash, Windows Explorer "assigns" it a drive letter but does not show it as formatted, ie- "The disk in this drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" Even if I do select to format the drive, the format process fails. This drive has beeen tested on two other WinXP installtions and works fine......

Installing And System Recognizing Drives - BOOTMGR Missing

Aug 15, 2010

I'm pretty computer savvy, but I've always struggled to confugure this RAID motherboard, but I've never encountered an error like this. I formatted a 60Gb Maxtor D740X-6L IDE drive with NTFS through an external harddrive connected to a laptop. THe drive is now blank. I connected this as a master on Channel 3 IDE on my Abit KG7 RAID mother board. I also connected my CD Writer to IDE channel 2 as a master, with a copy of WIndows XP in it. (I connected it like this because it doesn't recognise my harddrive on Channel 1 or 2 on the first page.)

When I try to boot I get the following error: BOOTMGR is missing. The strange thing is, as it boots it lists all four drive channels, and only shows Primary Master: 6L060J3 (presumably IDE channel 1). It does not show my CD writer, and infact the drive is connected to IDE channel 3. As you can see in attached photo1........

Barts PE Not Recognizing Hard Drives On Dell PC With SATA

Sep 2, 2005

Used to use Barts PE on a Windows XP system that had IDE drives. Created a new one since I was getting an error on my new Dell System with Windows XP PRO. Said it could not find a certain .in file. So I created a new Barts PE using a Windows XP Pro CD with SP1 and a blank CD to write the ISO image. After rebooting with Barts PE CD with ISO image, it looked fine and booted okay into Barts PE---BUT---it could not see my hard drives.

Master Boot Record Error - Recognizing Drives

Feb 23, 2006

I have a Gateway GT5032, Athlon X2 4200+ w/ 1GB RAM, 80GB (system) & 250GB HDs running WinXP MCE 2005. I was using the PC to open Nero VisionExpress while I was opening an edited DVR-MS (~1GB) movie when the movie became very choppy till it froze (Nero took a while to load as well). After waiting several minutes I end tasked the movie and continued to have a slow response time from the PC. It returned to normal speed, then I would try opening the movie (using Windows Media Player) and the movie was still choppy till it stalled. I eventually restarted the PC...I noticed that it took a LONG time to boot WinXP and would ''stall'' every 5 seconds for about 2 seconds. During bootup it reported that an error was in C:Windowssystem32Rasapi32.dll, but it did boot into Windows and all.

I rebooted in hopes of fixing the problem, but then the PC had trouble recognizing drives. After being shut off for about 10 minutes, the BIOS recognizes all drives again but reports an MBR error on boot up and will not even load Windows. I'm assuming that MBR is the Master Boot Record...and that scares me a lot. I am wandering if there is any easy way to repair this problem. And also if the MBR is indeed damaged, could it also have harmed my other files on the HD (such as Rasapi32.dll)? What is the function of Rasapi32.dll. I don't suspect a virus as I was not running any suspicious files lately.

Mapped Network Drives: Programs Unable To Find Drives?

Apr 20, 2006

I have setup a wireless network between two computers in my office and have installed some software that will automatically backup folders on each of the two computers. It work by backing up certain folders on computer 1 to the hard disk on computer 2 and vice versa.I also have a program installed on both computers that uses the data on computer 1.simplify the process of locating the data on my network I have created virtual drives using the Map Network Drives function in Windows. However; if I start up my computer and open these programs - they can not find the drives, I have to open My Computer first and double click on the drives before the programs will read from them. I am guessing that for some reason Windows is not connecting to these drives, even though I have set them to "reconnect at logon".

Cd And DVD Drives Paths To These Drives / Deleted From Windows

Dec 27, 2007

I recently installed the program registery fix and i believe it has caused my Cd and DVD drives or the paths to these drives to be deleted from windows as they do not show up in my computer. I have tried the options in the following list but none of them have helped me, i'm really stuck but i can't fix the problem.
- I've tried deleting the upper and lower filters but they are not in the selected registery.
- I've tried a system restore but i can't go back to a previous point before the registery fix install.
- I've tried unplugging the leads and restaring but this didn't help.
- I've tried microsoft guided help but it couldn't find the upper and lower filters.
- i beleive they are still listed in my bios but don't know exactly what i'm looking for when in bios.
I don't know where to go from here, i also run alcohol 120% a virtual drive software and the registery fix has had no affected on these drives but i'm wondering if this maybe why the program registery fix deleted my actual drives becasue of the virtual drives and replaced the paths to my actual drives but i'm not sure it's just a guess. I've deleted the virtual drives and tried the steps above but i've had no luck.

My operating system is Windows XP Pro. As of yesterday all was fine, I even burned a DVD. Today "My Computer" isn't even showing my DVD/CD recorder, only showing Drive A: 3.5 Floppy. It started when I downloaded (I think) WindowsBlinds, just wanted to do some color changes. Well when I installed it, Norton came up with a Trojan. Norton Quarantined or deleted it and said no more further actions required. The install finished (windowblinds) and I tried a couple different skins and decided to uninstall it. Uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller

So far this year I have had to reinstall my Windows like 8 times and done about 4 Windows repairs! Each time I seem to get 4 extra removable drives added to my system. In Disk Manager they are listed as "Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device", I have changed Device Usage to Do Not use this device (disable) and also I have uninstalled each device. Unfortunately, each time I restart the computer, they come back, shifting other drives to another drive letter.

I'm using the program built into Win XP and it seems to start normally, it's just not recognizing the CD-R. Strange, but the CD burner was recording fine until I turned off the services. It plays fine otherwise. I've tried turning services back on but no luck. Does anyone know which service may enable this function?

Programs Not Recognizing OS

Nov 17, 2007

I'm having some problems with installing certain programs on my computer, like Windows Live messenger and Windows Blinds. For some reason they're not recognizing the Operating System as Windows XP. Since the newest versions of the programs only run on XP or higher. This is strange because i know for a fact that I have XP Home SP2, I've had it for like 4 years or so.

Now, it's strange that this is happening because I had Windows Live messenger before, I wanted to try it out and I didn't like it so I downgraded back to MSN messenger, but now all of my friends are using Live and some things just aren't compatible with both like the Video convo thing. I tried reinstalling it but it says that I require to have Wind XP or Later, same thing happened with Windows Blinds 6.0. I tried installing Win Blinds 5.0 or something like that and it worked perfectly fine, because it's compatible with lower versions of Windows such as 2000, NT and ME.

PC Not Recognizing Mouse

Jul 25, 2008

My Dell Dimension desktop is running Win XP Media. A few days ago the mouse simply stopped working and on a reboot it did not fix it. I was using a wireless keyboard and mouse and noticed the light was not coming on on the receiver/transmitter so thought that perhaps that might be the problem. At the time I did not have another keyboard with a usb plug, my childs pc had a ps2 keyboard and i do not have a ps2 port. So I used my childs pc and my wireless keyboard and mouse work perfectly on it, including my transmitter/receiver.

The problem is obviously not with the hardware since they do work on her pc. I did however purchase a new keyboard and mouse - usb this time. I get the same issue. The keyboard works fine as I am able to boot in safe mode, enter the set up etc and can move around in those screens. As soon as it hits the XP log in screen though I am screwed, the keyboard is useless and with no mouse I am unable to click on my user name to log in...............
