Keep Hearing A Static/popping Sound From Speakers?

I keep hearing a static/popping sound from my speakers.I used my headphones and I still hear it so I don't think it's the speakers. If I put a movie on the pc I can hear it but, the static/popping sound is louder. I unistalled and re-installed the audio software (Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit) multiple times along with restarting the pc and it still comes back.I have 5.1 surround sound. Dell Dimension 5100.I opened my pc to look at the hardware and I don't see any problems.

It seems as tho something is working in the background and I hear constant crunching of the recycle wav like my recycle bin is being emptied or files are being constantly eaten. I just uninstalled Norton 2003, am using WIN 2000 NT and a Dell Latitude laptop, all of which I am slowly becoming familiar with (don't care too much or being networked so far!). At this point, unless it's critical, I don't intend to take frantic action, but this noise is bothering me and I know I'm not imagining it. Also, a Trojan (Trojano-CJT i think it was) was isolated and deleted by avast! I also ran S&D, Yahoo antispy, CW shredder, and Lavasoft. I also found alchem.ini and deleted it.?
It used to be located at C:WINNTWEBRECYCLE.HTT.... now is on my desktop and I still hear the crunching quite often... I noticed it is in full caps. Has anyone heard of this??? Is it part of networking, or maintenance, or perhaps Norton left something behind as usual or maybe this is a virus?

Now, once the "Windows is Starting" screen appears, nothing happens on screen when you try to type (e.g., when entering her password), BUT, if you HOLD the key down, as soon as the keyboard auto-repeat cuts in, THEN the letters appear. (You can hear a clicking sound from the motherboard speaker with each and every key press.) To enter her password she has to press each key long enough for autostart to begin and then quickly lift her finger off the key to prevent multiple instances of the letter. HOWEVER, once she gets into her account, the problem is gone. There also is no keyboard problem BEFORE Windnows (XP Pro) starts up. We tried doing an OS repair but it did not change anything.

I get a series of low pitch beeps about every hour for a second or two no matter what's running.It's not a system beep, much lower in freguency. Everything else is working fine, good audio for all playbacks.I don't have a system speaker attached to the motherboard. The sound comes thru my Sound Blaster powered speakers, even with the volume off.

I just did a clean install of Win XP Pro. Prior to this, the sound was working fine. After the reinstall, no sound. The computer has a Creative SB Live sound card, device manager tells me that it is working correctly, and the speakers (Boston Acoustics with subwoofer) are set up exactly as before. I worked through troubleshooting and it still didnt help. I would appreciate any help. Not only does the system sounds not work, but I can no longer hear audio cds (Media player 10, shows the disk is playing but no sound from speakers).

I have a fairly new Gateway computer and have had several problems with it. As of a couple of days ago, I no longer have sound on my computer. None of my games have sound and I can no longer listen to the online radio stations. However, today when I was on a website, music did come out of the speaker (something the creator of the site built into his homepage). Gateway suggested I update my drivers, but none of them needed to be updated (when I attempted to update it told me I had the newest version). What can I do to see where the problem is coming from?

My gf has a Vaio laptop and everytime we plug headphones into the jack we no longer get sound out of the speakers. we still get sound out of the headphones just not the speakers. She found a setting once that was set to headphones only and she changed it back to speakers and they worked again but now she doesnt know where that setting is anymore. Im alot more comfortable on a desktop and have never seen this setting and i have gone through just bout everything in audio settings but still have not found this.

I have no sound.My microphone is showing lights in the mixer ; I'm getting input numbers in WinAmp. I recently bought a new computer. Finally went from WinME to WinXp. I have outdoor speakers which when I used WinME I would simply unplug the desktop speakers and plug the outdoor speakers in (its wired). Anyway, i could hear all my tunes out by the pool etc.Now when I unplug the desktop speakers and plug in the outdoor speakers. some sound thing (RealTek HD Audio Manager) pops up and asks to check line out, line in, etc. I went through that process and still no sound outside.

I have a pair of stereo speakers, and because of the length of the power cord, and the length of of the 3.5mm jack cable, switching the speakers around is impossible. When I put headphones into the headphone jack in the left (or right channel) speaker, the channels are restored to their proper place. Now every time, as a result, every guy trying to murder me on the right sounds like they're on the left.I have a Realtek sound driver, and no idea what sound card I have.

I've googled and googled and everything I've tried I either don't have the options or it didn't work. The issue is whenever I plug in my headset.. both my laptop's speakers and mic work.. as well as my headset's speakers and mic. I'm plugging the headset into the audio and mic jacks on the laptop.My laptop is an Acer.

i recently installed a mic on my laptop (Toughbook CF-29) and I can hear myself/sounds from the mic through the speaker on my laptop, but xp sound recorder and/or Audacity won't record the sounds going through the mic/speakers. I have tried messing about with advanced audio properties, but can't figure this out.

I am getting no sound from my computer.I can't hear videos or any of the normal sounds the computer makes.I've been into the control panel and checked everythingin the sounds and audio device sections...everything seems to be on the right setting...The speakers are wired correctly..and the speaker light is on. I was getting some sounds a few days ago...

I am running a home network with multiple Windows XP machines attached to the Internet with a Linksys router with the DHCP function turned on. Is it possible to have one of my machines use a static IP address instead of the one leased by the router. I know how to setup a static ip address, and I am using a number in the same subnet mask but I can't get access to the Internet.

I have an HP a305w Pavilion. It's a refurbished system from a very reputable source and has caused me no problems over 2 years. I do have problems with the CD ROM tho. 1) When playing a music CD, the first 5-6 seconds is very static-y and muffled sounding. It doesn't matter if it's a bought CD or one I burned myself. 2) There is good 15 second delay between songs, and I can hear the CD ROM 'starting up' again. How can I fix both of these issues?

The LCD screen during boot up has multi-colored static verticle lines 1/3rd of LCD My OS was re-installed on this past Monday. There were not any noted problems. Today I installed Norton SystemWorks Premier 2005 without ant noted problem. I then installed Norton Internet Security 2005 and during the installation it detected that a previous version of Norton AntiVirus was installed and requested that it be removed. I did that and followed the correct steps. And rebooted. I then installed Norton Internet Security with AntiVirus without any noted problem. I have WinXP Media Center, am using yahoo DSL internet at a rate of 1.5 mbps, and use firefox as my default browser. In the past few days, I've noticed that every once and a while AOL will start and ask for me to put in my password when I didn't start it or ask for it to start. It usually happens when I open a webpage, like every 5 pages I open AOL will pop up randomly. I'm not subscribed to their service, it came with the computer. When I close it after it pops up I can't open a webpage in firefox and need to close and re-start a firefox browser for me to open a webpage again.

Here is my problem: I am trying to stream FLAC files from my laptop or desktop running XP and foobar2000 via usb to a Bryston BDA1 DAC then on to a preamp and 2 channel amp.I get these little popping noises at irregular intervals. Same thing happens with both my laptop and destop, but not with my wife's laptop. Did some research and others were saying to disable other usb devices on the usb bus, I went in the Device manager section and did that, plus killed some processes to no avail. Even disabled all wireless cards, etc..

My computer has so many problems right now i don't know what the deal is.The speakers won't play, it won't let you burn on to blank CDs anymore and everytime you restart the computer my documents automatically comes up. There are so many problems. Here is the hijack this file, i don't know if it's the up to date version though.

Just switched computers and now my mic doesn't seem to be able to work correctly. It worked fine on my old one. Winxp.I have to yell into it ot actually hear anything.I was testing it on the sound recorder.I used 2 different mics and I have the same problem.The set up is as follows, and remember it was the saw mset up on the old system. Two speakers (l&r), plugg them into the back of the sound card. On the front of one speaker I have headphone jack and a mic jack. So I plug the headset in when I need to and I plug the mic in to jack.(Same as on old computer).that's how it is.Worked fine on old system.
