Installed New Anti Virus Software - Keeps Freezing
Sep 27, 2007
My computer started acting funny a few days ago when I installed my new Antivirus software (BitDefender and Webroot Spy Sweeper with Antivirus). Now it keeps freezing when I used firefox or Explorer and my computer restarts itself. When it comes back on, it says it was because of a stop error caused by a device driver. It won't say exactly what happened though because the cause is blank. Also, when it is frozen it won't shut off after twenty minutes.
Recently my Norton Anti Virus security programmer expired so I thought Id download a free one online. I first tried Avira but didn't like so uninstalled I then tried AVG and liked it. but ever since installing these Anti Virus programmers my system has been freezing crashing extremely slow, there was nothing wrong before installation. I've ran all my protection programmers Ad-Aware, Spy Bot, CCleaner, even did a full scan with AVG but still the system is way slow.
g'day guys,i am first time user here i have a balance digital laptop model cn4301,using windows xp-2 home edition,128mg ram, running avast anti virus latest version, superantisptware latest version, and adblocker plus, mozilla addon, problem is that browser is continually "not responding' and occasionally error message "virtual memory is low' i have just run hijack this
My machine has suddenly started giving me an error on start-up. The little red shield appears in the system tray and a warning saying that my Norton Anti-virus software is not working and I am not protected. However after a short while this disappears.I think it has something to do with the order the initial TSRs etc. are loaded during the boot-up process, as once the Norton icon appears in the system tray the red shield disappears. I wondered if there is any way I can change the order
I currently have Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite 6 & it is due to expire in about 8 days. I was wondering what others of you used for anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewalls etc.I have heard that sometimes it's not the best idea to use a complete package, like ZA internet security suite, for the whole lot You hear a lot of conflicting info about them all, I've heard that AVG is good, Norton isn't, someone said windows defender was good.
I've got a PC with Win XP SP2. I'm currently using Etrust antivirus and Windows Defender on it. But, I'm suspecting it's got virus and/or spyware that those two softwares are not detecting. Can anyone recommend me other good anti-spyware and antivirus software (preferably free)?
Windows xp home sp2, Intel 3.0ghz 512MB approx 15 months old.PC shuts down when running AVG anti-virus or AVG anti-spy ware. When either program reads C:/windows/I386 it intermittently powers down. I think there's a corrupt file in the main body of I386, but can't isolate it. I'm not sure which type of file should be in this area.
Does any computer wiz out there know of an anti-virus site that will remove the rojan horse virus free? I know that all downloads are free, but once they find all the infected files, they won't remove them with out u paying for them
There is little to no information on this little guy, but it looks like xcechinu.dll is a Virus, if this is legitimate or not, but I cant remove it with anything that i have at the moment
My PC recently got a fairly nasty virus (W32-Sinowal-based Maximus! or something along those lines) so we had to get it wiped. A few days later, my computer was all messed up again. I can only boot up in Safe Mode, my sound doesn't work, and it is running slower than normal. I need to find out if I have another virus (although the guy who fixed it downloaded Norton Anti-Virus and it seemed fine for a few days) or if maybe my computer is just dying. It's about three years old and apparently it was outdated before we even bought it. Is there any way the virus could have affected the computer's hard drive or whatever (yeah, I don't quite know what I'm talking about) or have I maybe gotten another virus?
My anti-virus software keeps on detecting some virus from different folders from the C:WINDOWS emp folder, yet all folders are empty. It detects trojans from those empty folders . All folders from the temp folder are empty. Can't I just delete it all?
A few days back I noticed my Anti Virus was automatically disabled. It usually runs continously in the background but of late it was being disabled.I tried re installing but it was of no use. Now I find that a suspcious program 'Form1' is running when I use alt+tab.Could not find this on the task manager though When I try to run anti virus scans / Spybot / Ewido, my computer just freezes after starting the scan!I know somethings wrong but I dont know what
I recently was infected with a computer virus. Norton AntiVirus 2003 initially caught the virus and it supposedly deleted it, so I was not concerned with the message details. However, almost immediately after receiving the message I realized the virus was not completely removed. A DOS window popped up two or three times and then Norton shutdown. I tried opening Norton again but it would not open. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it would not reinstall. I tried the Windows Update site and the page shows no conent. Any ideas on how to identify the virus so I can take steps to remove it?
I'm in need for a good antivirus program that don't take up much resources and works, right now i have mcafee virus scan but for some reason it sometiems disable it self so some suggestions? anything free is welcome, but if something is really good i'd buy it
I am looking to get the right anti-virus for my computer, however it already has a virus on it and i need to know what to do. It will not let me restore or anything. It took all the icons away
I am another victim of the trojan virus deleted (with Antivir) . I've read some post from JSntgRvr helping other guys to solve the problem. I hesitate to follow the same procedure to skip more problems...this the report from AV Antivir...
Begin scan in 'C:' <VAIO> C:autorun.bat [DETECTION] Contains signature of the batch virus BAT/Small.K [INFO] The file was deleted! C:autorun.vbs [DETECTION] Contains signature of the VBS script virus VBS/Small.K [INFO] The file was deleted Now I have the error opening c: or d: drives "autorun.vbs not found" or something similar.
I have this older notebook computer I got for free, its a Duron 900mhz 256megs 20gig system, its pretty old and slow. But since its all I have right now I will have to live with it. I just did a fresh XP pro install on it and I am trying to descide which Virus software I should use that uses very little of my limited resources. I have used Norton before and whoile it works fine on newer faster computers it seems to really slow down older slower machines so I would like to stay away from Norton on this notebook. So anyways, my real question is, do I really even need virus software?
I dont ever download from unknown sittes and only open emails from known senders. I surf the net with Foxfire so spyware isnt that bnig a problem as it is with IE. Also I dont have anything important on this computer that I would worry about losing to a virus infection.I have a Linksys router that should have a built in hard firewall, correct? SO can I get away without the antivirus? I run Spybot and CCleaner to keep my computer free from spyware and junk. Do I need any other programs to keep things running smoothly? DO I even need Spybot if im using Firefox? And If I do need to run a Virus program, which will slow down the computer the least which uses the least of my limited resources? I liked Fsecures EZvirus it seemed to slow things down far less than Nortons.
I currently use Norton Corporate edition anti-virus. It works pretty well but takes up a lot of resources. I don't mind as much on my home PC but it runs TOO many tasks that I want running on my laptop. What is a good alternative to Norton that doesn't HOG too many tasks but still gets the job done?
I'm looking to download a free Anti Virus programmed for basic internet Antivirus & Antispyware protection, infected downloads & spam etc. but not sure which one is best to go for, AVG has been recommended but are there any more? OS-WXP-SP2 Home
I was wondering if there is any anti virus out there like the Norton Doctor. That has all the same things like pc doctor. I had trouble with Norton therefore, do not want to purchase it again. also what type of anti virus is the most effect my macfee does't seem to get everything because I do online virus scans and it has always missed omething
I believe that One of the computers which I own has a virus that prevents me from updating AVG. Recently the auto update has not been working, however today when I try to download it manually it does not find the page, I have tried several times but it hasn't worked.
I have read many of the "which AV?" threads and I see that Avast, AVG and Panda are all quite popular here.I do not, however, see much discussion of Trend Micro's PC-cillin, BitDefender or Kaspersky. Are those not popular for some reason, or are the others favored only because they are free?I really don't mind a reasonable annual subscription, but I do want a light footprint and effective security.
I currently have Norton System Works for an AV program. It expires next month so I was wondering if I should switch to a better program if there is one thats recommended? I've had the program since 2002 and update it every year so "it's up to date"
I have two antivirus programs installed on my computer.AVG Free and Avast free. They both seem to function, but is it a bad idea to have more than one installed?
I currently have Norton Antivirus, but was considering uninstalling it so that less resources are consumed and to free up HD space. It has not really helped me in any way, the last time i got a virus was when i had activeX enabled, which i don't anymore since i use firefox. I also don't stupidly click on .exe files and the sort, so i couldn't get a virus like that.
So do you guys think it is necessary to have an antivirus program? should i keep Norton or can i ditch it?
Have been useing the free "AVG" program for almost a year, and in useing it to scan my "C" drive,it found 83 "nasties" plus 5 virus programs. Was able to remove the 5 virus programs, however in order to remove the "nasties" had to download AVG Pro. on a trial basis. It took care of the "nasties".Does anyone have and use the AVG Pro, and how do you like it? They want almost $39.00 for a two year subscrption, and I am thinking about purchaseing the program. I would love to hear fron anyone (pro or con) about the program.
