i recently read the article on modifying some files with a hex editor to be able to use raid5 in windows xp pro. Raid5 in WindowsXP Pro. i was wondering IF i was to do raid5 this way, how exactly would u bring the raid5 volume up in windows after a reinstall?
As I've mentioned in a previous post, a client of mine has recently been blessed with a free server that is exactly the same as the one they have now (dual PIV 2.8, 1Gig RAM, RAID5 at 480 Gigs). What they want is a complete copy of their current server on the new server and have the new server take over the primary role. This server is a Windows 2003 server (Small Business Server) with Exchange Server 2003. One way I know is to add the new server as a domain controller so that active directory gets replicated then install Exchange server as a copy as outlined It has been suggested that I just ghost from one server to the other but I really don't know how I would go about doing that from a RAID 5 to a RAID 5. I believe I'd create a ghost image then use the image to ghost it back to the other server. I guess the question is how do I get a 480 Gig image from one server to the other?
Encountered a Blue Screen of Death error. The error stated that I should run Chkdsk and then proceeds to restart and bring me to the Windows boot selection screen (safe mode, last known good configuration, normally). No matter which choice I pick, it always leads to the BSOD then restarts. Since this is getting me nowhere fast, I want to just format and reinstall windows. I do not have my recovery CDs, and when I enter the BIOS to change the boot sequence I cannot change it so the CD drive is above the hard drive in priority. The reason it gives me in the bios is that "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor. Any ideas on how I can boot off the cd and reinstall windows from scratch?
i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of msn m. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by Internet, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m.
When I turn it on my wallpaper comes up on the desktop but no desktop icons or start up bar. Just an arrow. ctl -alt - del does not bring up the task manager. Absolutely nothing can be done. Nothing on the keyboard makes anything work. Is she gone or what? Please help this is my baby here. I tried the recovery disk that doesn't work either.
Just in the past two months I have had a problem with something using all of my memory I thought at first it was Oulook when I close it I am at 1.93GB memory and it hangs there it seems to happen when I have two or three programs up at the same time as well. Rebooting will bring everything back to normal. I have run all of Nortons programs and it seems every thing is ok. Don't know what else to try or look at.
I have had my PC for about 4 years. It is an AMD athlon and was custom built. I have never been able to use any of the F keys to get into safe mode. I always use xp configuration utility. I downloaded a file that puts a screen up when booting, offering me the option of booting into safe mode. However today I needed to boot into safe mode and the PC did not get as far as the option screen due to a missing NTLDR file (which I have sorted out thanks to my sisters PC and google!!) My Del key gives the setup menu F8 gives a boot option menu (i.e. boot from floppy, CD etc) . Is there any EASY way to make an Fkey offer me the option to boot into safe mode please?
There is one particular website that I have been clicking on successfully in my Favorites for quite awhile. Now it will not connect. Often it will attempt to throw me into Acrobat Reader or just hang. Even when I Google the site and click on their link it will do the same thing. So far I haven't discovered any other site that acts this way. When I use another browser I connect easily. I certainly would appreciate any suggestions for a fix.
After a power surge last night, I cannot bring up my cable internet. We've tried reinitializing the cable modem, restarted the computer multiple times, and tried everything else that seems logical. When we ran the command prompt c:>ipconfig/renew we got the error message:An internal error occurred: The system cannot find the file specified. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help. Additional information: Unknown media status code.
I am having trouble with my computer. Every time I start it up or try to bring it out of hibernation, it takes almost a half hour to start. Once it does start up everything runs just fine. It also has no trouble shutting done, the problem is just with the initial start-up. I will press the button to turn my computer on and the lights will come on but it takes forever for my password screen to pop up. I have been searching for possible solutions but have not found anything that helps. Here are a few things that i tried
When I go to websites, for example www.victoriassecret.com and try to click on an item and then click on "larger view, back view, side view, etc" tabs I get "javascript void" and my PC cannot bring the link up for me to get a good look at what I would be buying.I have Windows XP. I turned off any pop up blockers. My IE is 6.0 and my java is version 5.1.3810, both very updated. When I went to a website recommended on another thread with a similar problem I see my browser is not Javascript enabled but is Java Applet enabled. The link I tested it out on is...http://www.bodo.com/javame.htm
from my limewire i bring the music into my iTunes library and was wondering if there was a program or somethign that scan my library and complete artist, song name, cd, and album, and all the other data without having to go through all my songs and find the info.
I was trying to run the Trojan Vundo B removel tool off the Symatech web site, it told me to put my computer into safe mode. When I restarted my computer it went to my log on user menu, I hit the administrator one, then my screen went to black, all black except it says safe mode in the four corners and it says:
Microsoft (R) Windows XP (R) (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519: Service Pack 9) It may not be a 9 on the last part. I can't really read it because it is overlapping the S in Safe Mode that is in the corner.I can access the task manager but not sure how to bring up the desk top
So i was trying to make some room on y C drive and i guess i deleted some files that i shouldn't To make a long story short now my volume control thingy that stays on my taskbar has dissapeared. When i go to the control panel and to sounds and audio devices and i get in there and there is an icon with the option to place volume icon on the taskbar but when i click on that i get 'windows cannot display the volume control on the task bar because the volume control program has not been installed. After several tries i figured i deleted the windows file soundvol32.exe but how the hell do i get it back and put it in its right place?I have no idea where it would go? Anybody have an idea how i can install that back? I tried using my windows cd but since i put service pack 2 on it it said that the version of windows i had on the cd was older than my current version.
I reinstall Windows XP Home because My computer was messed up. It deleted all my files.. so on my desktop screen I don't have any Program Files Icons. BUT it still save my Files. I have my orginial files in my Documents folders and In my Program Files It has all the Programs and files that go with that program? How do I zap everything back on my desktop screen so I don't have to go Download each files as new again??? And I how do i get my Internet Favorite Links and my Notepad with my saved information in it? Yes I did try the "Start" and then program files and none of the programs are there.. BUT yet it is in my Program Hard drive C: Program files. with the Program and all it's content?
My Help and Support stopped working about the same time I installed the free utility GhostScript / Gsview so that I could view postscript files. I tried posting a question on another usenet newsgroup, but the answer of: click on install on the C:windowsinfpchealth.inf file - resulted in a search for the file dataspec.xml in the C:windowsinfi386 directory - Unfortunately, such directory does not exist on my C: drive. Furthermore, the "K:I386" directory of my Original Win XP Home CD does not contain any file named "dataspec.xm_ or .xml".And beyond that, I ordered a new Win XP SP2 CD, which just now arrived by mail - and there is no "K:I386" directory on that CD, nor does the CD apparently contain any file called "dataspec" (including dataspec.*).Another effort toward resolution occurred via another usenet post I read, which suggested opening the XP command line feature and executing a system status command, that displayed enabled services - I used that method, and switched the Help and Support service off and then on again. Such action did not in-fact enable the Help feature (including, of course restart), despite the indication that the Help and Support service was enabled. I am, and have been, running a purchased-CD version of Win XP Home, with a downloaded SP2 revision (I have not installed the new Win XP SP2 CD). Basically, I want to find out the means and methods for enabling my Win XP SP2 Help and Support feature, that apparently has been disabled or otherwise rendered inoperative. Is a reinstall of Win XP possible and the best choice? What are the other options?
Because of massive system porblems I have had t reinstall XP Pr with SP2. Before reinstalling XP I formmated the hard drives t give me a blank canvas to work. The reinstall worked fine but I cannot reinstall my Virgin Media Bradband service. Before the reinstall the bradband service was wrking fine..When I originall took out the bradband service it was through NTL. My cable modem states 'NTL' and the broadband disk has NTL' on it and I registered it tthough NTL. Now Virgin Media has bought up NTl annd I don't know if there is a compatibility prblem. Des somebdy else know?
I've been having some internet connectivity problems lately, and I believe it's due to some nasty spyware. I've already gone through all the steps to correct this (checking my DSL speed, anti-spyware scans, anti-virus scans, doing it all in safe mode, even reset my winsock.dll, etc.) but I'm still having problems with slow browsers. So now I think I'm faced with reinstalling Windows XP. My question is, should I do a format & reinstall, or is it better to reinstall Windows over my existing version? I have a Compaq Presario, and it comes with a Recovery CD.
While exiting a game I had a system freeze and had to shut my computer down (pulled the plug). Upon restart I got the message "the volume is dirty" and check disk ran. Is this something I should be concerned about? I think I found the right log for it in the event viewer "Winlogon, event 1001" but don't understand whats written in it. Can anyone help me out here? Tell me what a dirty volume is, tell me if there is anything of concern in the log, tell me if I should let it concern me or not?
For some strange reason, my volume keeps getting muted. When I open the VOLUME CONTROL, the MUTE ALL box is checked, so I uncheck it. Then, a little while later it happens again. This had been going on for about a week now and it's very frustrating. Especially when you're in the middle of a game or spomething and all of a sudden, theres no sound.
Had to reboot my computer awhile back because it froze up and have had no volume since. I get the Coe 10 error code, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, with no success. Also get a no media mixer error sometimes.
My window xp volume bar (green color bar appear on the bottom right for few sec when adjust volume) went missing for no reason. Do anyone know how to make it appear again?
Is there anyway I can stop the beeper sounding when I do something wrong, such as trying to move the cursor upwards in Word pad when it's already at the top of the file. Or can I at least turn the volume down?I can't see any volume control on my newly acquired machine. Waiting for that hooter to go off is driving me nuts.
Situation: Had MS Natural Keyboard Pro PS2 with the media keys working just fine. Problem... it's a white keyboard and all my stuff is now black or silver. Okay, get a new keyboard, MS Wireless Natural Keyboard. Uninstalled and reinstalled old/new software. ONly problem, the new keyboard can't control volume up/down. It can mute/unmute and all other special keys work.
where the link is that ties those keys in to the main volume control in registery. Here's something interesting: If I plug the old PS2 keyboard in, no drivers, XP recoginizes and all media keys work fine on it including volume. If I keep both keyboards installed simultaneously they both work fine and control everything EXCEPT the new one can't raise/lower the volume, just mute.
