When I turn my computer (HP s7527c Desktop) on it only boots to the HP Administrators screen. There is no password required. If I click on the icon it only reloads the same screen. Can anyone explain what is wrong? If I click on F10 (PC Recovery) during bootup the computer works ok after the recovery process is complete.I have only had this computer less then a year and I cannot find any answer on the HP site or from their support.

I had windows 2000 pro. I wanted to do a full format and completely wipe my hard disk, and install windows xp pro. I did it wrong though, and when my comp was on and i was on windows 2000 desktop, I inserted the windows xp cd and chose a new installation. Windows XP installed, however since I did it wrong and did not format, I now have both XP and 2000 on my hard drive. I tried to fix this problem by going into my BIOS and changing the boot order. Currently it is set to boot 1st from my cd rom. However, when I turn it on, it begins to start up, and says hit any key to boot from cd, but when I hit a key it just continues to load windows. the next screen asks me to chose an OS or press F8 to go into advanced setup. However, again it does not let me give it a command to change the highlighted OS, or go into F8. I can still go into my BIOS, and once windows loads up, my key board works fine, but for whatever reason when windows is starting it seems like it's not communicating with my keyboard. I do not have an A drive so I can not boot from there. I tried to reformat within windows, but since I'm asking it to reformat the drive I am already using, it will not do that. All I want to do is format my harddrive and wipe all OS's off and all info, then install XP. Can I do this without A drive, or without it recongizing when I hit a key to boot from cdrom.

I have been trying to install Windows XP as a second OS as I already have Windows 7 Ultimate installed. Unfortunately, after I select a partition, format it, and reboot the system stalls on the screen after the BIOS that has something to do with a list of devices and such. After 10 or so seconds a few characters and letters go blank randomly on the page. I rebooted and selected my cd drive as the boot device and accidentally didn't press a button in time to boot and a bunch of highlighted numbers were thrown all over the screen and a random smiley face on one of the lines.

I'm running windows xp home edition. I don't know what happened exactly but for whatever reason, the computer simply restarted itself for no apparent reason and then it wouldn't boot the operating system correctly so I tried to get into safe mode to try and diagnose the problem. I checked the bios to see if any error messages or a log had been recorded but found nothing. When I finally got it to go into safe mode, My user name was gone and it just said "Guest" and wanted a password to log on. I am the only user of my computer and was the administrator until this happened. Even when I tried to log on as the administrator, it still wanted a password

i have xp pro sp2 on a disc and when i try to install it, i get to the partition screen and it shows i have only one drive, with 2gb on it, in FAT format, which is my USB drive i have plugged in,then below it, it says theres an unknown disk in there, no drive is plugged in (or something like that). So, it wont let me reformat my main drive and install xp on it. I have vista x64 already on it and i wanna go back to XP. When i use my Vista install disk, it can find the disk and format it easily. So would it be possible to format it using the vista disk, then restart with xp disk in and boot from there?

For security reasons, Microsoft does not allow parents (computer administrators) to check on, maintain, adjust or otherwise enter their kids' (limited users) XP profiles without either resetting their passwords or waiting for them to come home and being confrontational about it.Ideally I would like to be able to log on to a limited user account from my administrator account without tampering with anyone's passwords-resetting them or otherwise. Actually, I have little interest in the (step) kids' personal life and stuff. Alternately, perhaps you may help me with my ultimate goal: limiting screensaver activity:

I was cleaning up a friend's PC that had become infected with a variety of trojans, malware and viruses. After cleaning all the pests, the OS (WIN XP Home SP1) remained corrupted. He was able to use the PC but there was no windows update functionality, no firewall, inability to execute certain setup files, no antivirus program and other little funny things going on. We could not execute any firewall or antivirus setup program. User accounts said that he had one user (user1) and a guest account that was
turned off. User1 was the administrator. There was no password protection.

Recently I downloaded WinOPtimizer 4 and started to tweak my computer.I went to logon tweaking and when it showed to logon as user I changed it to admninistrator since I am the only one using the computer and have no other users. Well what happened was that the application created another Administrator. Now I have 2 Administrator and would like to delete the one created by the software but I cannot because the system will not let me. It states that to delete an account that is an administrator I have to have the other administrator do it but I try and I cannot.

After setting up a system running Windows XP Pro with the user set to be a member of the Administrators group, that spontaneously changes so the user is a member of the "Debugger Users" group. I wonder if anyone else has come across this, and if he knows why it occurs. It isn't generally a problem, but it does cause some problems at times with some of the software we use which requires the user be an Administrator. I think it gets changed when running windows updates, but I'm not sure.

Is there documentation somewhere that will tell you what you cannot do on a WinXP Pro PC if you don't have Administrative access / logon (a member of the local dministrators group)?
I know there are numerous things you cannot do, but I would
really like to see a list of the restrictions.

I have two accounts created on my computer which is running Windows XP Professional. One is the account I've been using for about 3 years, which contains all my personal information, settings, as well as 30 GB of media that is stored in the 'My Documents' folder.
The other account was created about 15 minutes ago. It contains nothing. I need to switch (if possible) all my settings, data, everything essentially; over to the new account. Is there a way to do this?

I have a fijitsu siemens PC running windows XP home (SP2), I have 2.4ghz CPU, 80G HD and 750 MB of memory. Whilst running for me as the administrator it is slowish but I can live with that. However, when my wife uses "switch user" her "section" once opened runs VERY slowly. Coupled to this when I switch back (even if she logs off) it crashes, I get a message when checking events that her part of the registry was still in use? Is there any way around this it is very irritating especaily her "section" running so blasted slowly

I have a problem that IBM or AT&T DSL cannot help me with. On my IBM R51e Laptop I have been getting denied administrator's rights. I bought this laptop on Ebay a couple of years ago and it was still under warranty. Running some of my programs, ie 'CompuPic'. I am denied access.
I have sent this PC to IBM about 3 times. It has been unsuccessful in getting this problems resolve, I have ran countless system restores on it to no avail. IBM said that this laptop was originally issued to a corporation and that I should contact who I had purchased it from.

First of all, I'd like to address the fact that this thread is on the wrong board, but I'll be honest and say I picked it because so many people are viewing, and I really need some help. I don't exactly know where to put this thread, so if a mod feels the need to move this, go ahead. I am using Windows XP, though.Anyway, my friend let me have his old headset a few months ago, and it, basically, isn't working very well. For some reason, some days it works decently, and others not at all. I've found out that for the times it does work, I need to have the mic right up to my lips, and even then my friends have a hard time hearing me. My headset is always turned on, and I have the sensitivity all the way up. It's one of those headsets where two jacks come out the end, one a headphone and another a microphone jack. They are both firmly stuck into my motherboard.
