Switching Settings Between Administrators ?
Feb 1, 2007
I have two accounts created on my computer which is running Windows XP Professional. One is the account I've been using for about 3 years, which contains all my personal information, settings, as well as 30 GB of media that is stored in the 'My Documents' folder.
The other account was created about 15 minutes ago. It contains nothing. I need to switch (if possible) all my settings, data, everything essentially; over to the new account. Is there a way to do this?

I have a fijitsu siemens PC running windows XP home (SP2), I have 2.4ghz CPU, 80G HD and 750 MB of memory. Whilst running for me as the administrator it is slowish but I can live with that. However, when my wife uses "switch user" her "section" once opened runs VERY slowly. Coupled to this when I switch back (even if she logs off) it crashes, I get a message when checking events that her part of the registry was still in use? Is there any way around this it is very irritating especaily her "section" running so blasted slowly

I was cleaning up a friend's PC that had become infected with a variety of trojans, malware and viruses. After cleaning all the pests, the OS (WIN XP Home SP1) remained corrupted. He was able to use the PC but there was no windows update functionality, no firewall, inability to execute certain setup files, no antivirus program and other little funny things going on. We could not execute any firewall or antivirus setup program. User accounts said that he had one user (user1) and a guest account that was
turned off. User1 was the administrator. There was no password protection.

Recently I downloaded WinOPtimizer 4 and started to tweak my computer.I went to logon tweaking and when it showed to logon as user I changed it to admninistrator since I am the only one using the computer and have no other users. Well what happened was that the application created another Administrator. Now I have 2 Administrator and would like to delete the one created by the software but I cannot because the system will not let me. It states that to delete an account that is an administrator I have to have the other administrator do it but I try and I cannot.

After setting up a system running Windows XP Pro with the user set to be a member of the Administrators group, that spontaneously changes so the user is a member of the "Debugger Users" group. I wonder if anyone else has come across this, and if he knows why it occurs. It isn't generally a problem, but it does cause some problems at times with some of the software we use which requires the user be an Administrator. I think it gets changed when running windows updates, but I'm not sure.

Is there documentation somewhere that will tell you what you cannot do on a WinXP Pro PC if you don't have Administrative access / logon (a member of the local dministrators group)?
I know there are numerous things you cannot do, but I would
really like to see a list of the restrictions.

I'm servicing an XP SP1 home computer in a church school that has two user accounts established. Both users are classified as administrators. Is this legitimate or should only one be the administrator. There is no separate administrator account.

I have a problem that IBM or AT&T DSL cannot help me with. On my IBM R51e Laptop I have been getting denied administrator's rights. I bought this laptop on Ebay a couple of years ago and it was still under warranty. Running some of my programs, ie 'CompuPic'. I am denied access.
I have sent this PC to IBM about 3 times. It has been unsuccessful in getting this problems resolve, I have ran countless system restores on it to no avail. IBM said that this laptop was originally issued to a corporation and that I should contact who I had purchased it from.

I found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly

When I started up it says Win.ini corrupt. Then it starts up as a new user losing track of Favorites and Start Menu and Desktop Icons, Display and Folder attributes. Under
Documents and Settings it has added Dave.U5R2D5 in addition to Dave which still has all the information. I tried switching the 2 Filenames to get back to what it used to be but gave an error message and didn't do it and started another new file.Is there some way to use the old Dave file?

I'm having a major problem with XP Home Edition. When I start my computer, I get the Loading Settings screen, which automatically switches to the Saving Settings screen and then goes back to Loading Settings, Saving Settings, etc, etc, (the "Windows XP Startup" and "Windows XP Shutdown" sounds repeat themselves one right after the other). By the way, I have the XP tweak that skips the Welcome and log on screens at startup since I'm the only person that uses the computer. I've tried Debugging, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Restore To Last Working Settings and a few others, but nothing is working. I ran Spybot just before shutting down the computer the last time it worked and got the "Congratulations! Your system contains no spyware" message. When I restarted the computer, I started having this problem. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2004 and did a Live Update (manually) a few hours before this started happening.

I had a Thrustmaster Dual Power 4 game pad, and bought a Logitech Rumblepad later. I like the Rumblepad better, and want to consider it my "first string" controller. But if I go into say, Nba Live 2005, and go to choose controllers, no matter what I do, the thrustmaster is on the top of the list, and the logitech is on the bottom. All the old posts talk about choosing Preferred device in the control panel. By running DxDiag, I can see that setting something as the Preferred Device assigns it Controller ID 0. But I also see that the order of the Controllers, as recognized by most games, is the same as the order listed in the game controller control panel, and is completely unrelated to which device is "controller id 0" and "preferred device." For example, I set the logitech as preferred device, and plugged in the thrustmaster and also a gamepad pro.

When using Alt-Tab for Task Switching the menu aborts irregularly after an inconsistent amount of time rarely more than a few seconds. To re-state: I hold down Alt and then push Tab once while continuing to hold Alt. The menu comes up to show all current running programs. Then after a moment the menu exits just as if I had pushed the escape key.I have also noted that viewing the alt-text when doing a mouse-over on an image in my web browser is interrupted similarly.I have run my virus checker and Ad-Aware and found nothing. I have also tried closing all programs: no effect. I have also tried ending all non-essential processes through Task Manager: No effectI am running: Windows XP Home on a Dell Inspiron 1501
