I dragged a number of files to my cd-rw disk, using windows disk copying/burning utility. I can access them just fine, but when I use properties to see how much space I have left on the CD It shows the cd almost empty yet one file alone is more than 6 mbs in size. It seems I am getting a false reading. Does anyone know why or what I can do about it.
I was downloading some file, and while I was downloading, it said I've got a very low amount of free disk space, which was then about ~50MB, and going down (drive C: ). I tried deleting some files (in total about 400MB), but it showed the same amount of free space, and kept going down. Ultimately, my download stopped because of this, and the free space is gone.I don't have System Restore enabled, it's disabled, on all drives (C: & D: ), and I don't think I have some kind of an automated backup program. Plus, my two drives are formatted in NTFS, not FAT. if that helps. I haven't tried to reset yet, but besides reset, is there anything else I should try?
Tried to cut-paste a 900 mb file from hard disk to a pen drive. The operation failed. And now, though the file is nowhere on the hard disk, XP doesn't recognise that those 900 mb are supposed to be free. Of course, I've learnt my lesson. Copy-paste is kosher, cut-paste is evil. All the same, any idea how I can get those 900 mb back? I hope I can avoid formatting. It's simply dreadful to begin installing everythign from scratch.
My issue is my machine displays "not enough disk space " error when i try to paste a file of 4gb though there is enough disk space of over 8gb free in my drive
I don't get it. the more i go on, the more and more disk space seems to vanish into thin air. xp usually takes a couple of gigs up on the hard disk, right? maybe 5 gigs at the very most. i've got 8 gigs taken up by videos in one folder. the programs i've got installed are negligable. the program files folder is 500mb. and yet my disk only has 20 gigs spare on a 40 gig hard disk. i've looked in every folder on the hard disk and i simply can't find any folders with anything of any great size in it. i've defragged the hard drive.
how to expand the disk space that I have. The primary C drive has the OS on it and it is only about 14GB, and my entire disk is about 50GB, the unallocated space is about 34 GB. I have tried to expand the primary partition unsuccessfully. Do I have to reload the entire OS ? I do not have the origional disk to reload the OS. It is a sony PCG-CRT160 computer with 500 mb ram and approximately a 50 GB primary drive that was partitioned when I got it.
I am running XP SP2 and when I try to run Disk Cleanup (from menu or command prompt) I immediately get a popup telling me "Disk Space Cleanup Manager for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" with the option to send and error report to Microsoft. This started happening after I added additional memory to my PC. I am not having any problems with other programs. I successfully ran a Disk Cleanup late last week. I tried removing the VolumeCaches entry from the registry and that did not fix the problem.
i wanted to copy a cd image 4.18GB ISO format from partition F: NTFS 9GB free to partition D: (FAT32 12GB free space) and windows gives me that crap there is not enough space and i should do a disk clean up. I made a disk clean up to partition D: and there was 3GB of system restore files!!! maybe coz i deleted 6GB earlier anyway i deleted the system restore files
Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.
Recently ive been getting the yellow triangle icon with an ''!'' in it, saying that I have very low disk space. Ive noticed my computer has also been running slower than usual. Maybe half a year ago I came here with the same problem, and someone (forget the name, sorry) posted a link to a program somebody made that clears your disk space up for you. It deleted old unused files, and it worked great. You sort of just clicked on the link on the site, a box came up, and you checked off what you needed to be cleared, and then the program fixed it for you.
It says that TOTAL SIZE = 39 GB And Free Space = 5 GB Which means that the size of all files on C is 34 GB But when I select all files including Hidden files and Right Click> Properties, its size of all files is only 27 GB.I did clear recycle bin and disk defragmenter C, but still the same. So why is that?
At least once a week I get this message: "To free up disk space, OE can compact messages". I just click "OK". I have 132 GB available so why do I get a message like this?
My machine has suddenly started giving me an error on start-up. The little red shield appears in the system tray and a warning saying that my Norton Anti-virus software is not working and I am not protected. However after a short while this disappears.I think it has something to do with the order the initial TSRs etc. are loaded during the boot-up process, as once the Norton icon appears in the system tray the red shield disappears. I wondered if there is any way I can change the order
I am using Windows XP Home Edition. When i try using Norton360 to carry out disk optimization, i get the error message "Drive C: Insufficient Free Disk Space, Need 15% free"
Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There's over 50GB free and ive been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don't have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I've noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.
I've got a moderate amount of mp3 albums on my c drive and alot of the time i might download more and just place them on my desktop, anyway i tried to download a good pc game to install and play and i got a pop up saying OUT OF DISKSPACE!! then it asked me to free disk space so iam like how can all the space just be up all of a sudden? what can i do to get more disk space its very annoying.
How can I find where all of my disk space is used up? When I go to my C drive and right click on properties, 28.3 GB used 2.7 free what can I delete since I have run disk clean up and deleted all but the last restore point?
Laptop has 4GB. I defragmented the C disk several times over the last couple of year. Now the used disk space has crept up to nearly that, leaving only 200-300MB at any one time. I have nothing unusual as far as programs go, and I do not have a media player or anything like that hooked up, At 200-300MB, there is no ability to defragment. I use a CCleaner, and Eusing Registry Cleaner regularly. Wher
Computer has been really low on disk space for a long time. ATF Cleaner IT worked great, took off all temp files and such, all useless stuff that stays on your computer. I've tried a disk cleanup that apears when space is low but it does pretty much nothing. I only have a 30G HD, but still, that cant possibly take it all up, I have only 19.3 mb left!
I kept my pc running over night and when I woke up the free space in my drive c(contains os) was 700kb. It had dropped from 8gb. I checked system restore I thought it might have made a backup but that was not the case. I did find though a bunch .sqm files in my c drive. I've heard they can be related to live messenger and operation flashpoint ( a game). I have flashpoints sequel and live messenger. I haven't used either in several days. I did defragment the drive one day before this occurred. Can someone please tell me where all that space has gone to?
I try to open a program, or try to edit a photo, my updates even say not enough disk space to install available updates. windows XP service pack 3 504 MB of RAM
I have been downloading something on my computer and now i have 18.8GB left and there is 55.8 gb left.. I have taken some things off the disk..took off a lot of pics and movies and the disk does not seem to move what am i missing.
I have win xp home ed. SP2 and when I go to "C" properties I see as used space 11.1 GB, but if I open "C" then "select all" -- showing hidden files and folders, I have a total of 7.5 GB in used space, how come that I have a difference of almost 3 GB?? Does anyone know?

I have a problem i recently reinstaleld windows XP on my computer and after i did that i found that i only had 2 GB so i deleated a few things that did not get deleated in the reinstallation and i also compressed old files and did a disk clean up and now i only have 10 GB out of a total size of 27 GB so i should have a lot more than 10 GB and i dont think that there is any thing else that can be deleated on my computer and i still have that problem.
I have a problem with my hp pavillion pc, running on windows xp.it crashed on me and like a madman i had no back up disk but i did have my mates copy of xp pro which i loaded in to see if i could get any joy at all. to my suprise it fired up and appeared to load on quite well except i seem to have no disk space available, i cannot get anything loaded ie microsoft word or games etc.my spec is as follows 2.0 ghz intel celaron . 256mgb ram. 40gb hard drive.all used to work great before the crash.
drive C: size is 19.6 GB. The free space keeps changing, which, PF usage is shown to be always upwards of 1.4 GB on the Task Manager. this is slowing down most other programs. I tried various 'cleanup' utilities and also did Virus/Malware scans, which turned up nothing. I also created an alternate Page file on another one of my big partitions, but this does not seem to have any effect. My startup is always slow, and so are application startups.
For several months now, my home computer has been running on "low disk space." It would cause things to slow down or web pages to not load properly. We would free up space by removing programs or files and within a matter of hours it would all be full again. Eventually we got to the point of having 0 disk space. I have, once again freed up space by deleting programs and files that we did not need and that space has gradually been eaten up by something. Now, we are at a point where if we are online... lets say Facebook just for example... we can look at messages we have, write a new message, but when you try to submit said message the computer doesn't even act like you've clicked anything at all. We can't send e-mails, send messages, delete emails or messages... as a matter of fact, as I write this I am unsure that I will be able to submit it. I am also having trouble searching for things using "search" on my computer. The window opens as a blank window. When I try to open "help & support" it doesn't even attempt to open it. This computer is a Sony Vaio. Our internet connection is DSL. We are running Windows XP Home. I have continuously run clean disk and deleted browsing history in IE. (IE7, by the way).
Having a bit of a problem here. My daughter is running winxp 1000mhtz and is trying to download a huge game. She deleted EVERYTHING off her computer to make space and it still says not enough space. He has a 4.0 g hd, but xpt can't take up that much.
