i want to hibernate the system.but hibernate option is not displayed in power options in control panel.how can i enable the hibernate.i m using windows xp professional sp2.

It took ages to re start and said it was unstable and to delete it from Add Remove programs
Went to do this and it showed me a long list of programs that would not work if I did
Once I installed sp3, I could not get past the windows loading screen, so I started in safemode and uninstalled sp3 that way. My question is, does uninstalling sp3 remove sp2 as well. I can not see sp2 under add/remove programs, but my windows update history says I downloaded sp2 last May.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed XP Pro SP2 onto this toshiba laptop (fairly good;1.4ghz intel celeron M,512 ddr ram,wireless nic,ati graphics and such) and it seems that standby and hibernate wont work AT ALL. Standby is grayed out in the turn off computer menu and the hibernate tab does not exist in the power options utility in control panel. I've googled around a bit and found no specific option in the BIOS to enable or disable it and as far as i know this laptop SHOULD support it...i mean come on what kind of laptop doesn't standby or hibernate?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have one physical video card installed in my pc. Its a g4orce 4 ti4400 .In devmgr, i have a hidden, non present card also.Its a gforce FX5200, which I had previously. I uninstalled it from devmgr, and of course it also removed my drivers for the ti4400. But my problem is that after the uninstall,my standby or hibernate options dont even appear
anymore. I am now using the integrated graphics with those drivers installed,standby hibernate are still missing. Can anyone help? I have XP Pro SP2 and would rather not do a sys restore or anything like that.
I'm running the WinXP Pro ver. 2002 OS in a home built desk top machine. Problem is with the Remote Procedure Call (RPC).I have mistakenly disabled this Service from Profiles and when the computer rebooted it opened up into "Safe Mode" and is locked. Can't get it out of safe mode.I tried to undo my mistake and cannot enable this service. Messages say I can't open Properties boxes from any of the Services listed in the My Computer/Manage/Computer Management /Services & Apps/Services... window.

I move them to a separate folder for safe keeping for about a week, then, if all is well, I delete them. I don't think I've deleted the IE7 SP, but I don't know what the SP number is.

I have downloaded it and it gets to final stages of instalation (performing cleaning) and then I get an error message saying that it could not complete installation. I have a proper copy of win xp and have used it for ages and registered it. The problems came when I got a new motherboard and it asked me to register windows which I did successfully. When I went to download SP2 it told me I had to register windows and to follow certain steps in the control panel.

View 6 Replies View RelatedToday I got a new computer, and set up a home network with my DSL connection. Well, I noticed that my older computer hadn't been updated in a while so I downloaded/installed all the new XP updates, including SP2. Well as soon as I did that, Windows would not boot. So I turned off auto-reboot when it encounters an error. Even worse. Now I can't even go into safe mode, unless it's the command line. So I decided, what the heck, I need to clean up anyways. And I try to reinstall windows, my CD won't load. So now I'm stuck with a nice blue paperweight that won't boot windows and I can't boot the XP CD. If anyone has encountered this problem, and fixed it, please reply. If not, I'm getting Redhat right now, and going to install that, format, uninstall and put XP back in. I was just hoping for an easier way out.
