I removed Norton and downloaded Avira Free and ran a scan. It found two files in Doc.and settings that are now in Quarantine. They are I think FP's. One was IEhome.vbs and the other is IEenablecookie.vbs. I tried Googleing them but didn't find anything. Are they OK?
I am having trouble opening certain software, keep getting the message "cannot find shell.dll" I've tried to download this file off the internet but it doesn't seem to work. The programs I have trouble with are quickbooks and corel.
You guys are my last hope. This forum looks very active, so hopefully someone knowledgable will know how to fix my problem.I'm running Windows XP and very recently installed SP2. Here are some sys specs:P4 1.5ghz, gf2 64mb Pro video card.Suddenly about a day ago, different colored blocks would randomly appear on my screen (usually pink). I thought nothing of it, but it kept getting worse. I turned on my computer one day, and my LCD monitor kept flickering. I rebooted, then it loaded windows, then my monitor kept going to power save mode, then showed the screen, etc. I rebooted again, and my screen was stuck at the black loading screen that says "Win XP Pro" with the animation (except everything was weird colors and I could tell by the sounds and such that my computer loaded windows). Rebooted again, and my monitor said "refresh rate out of range". I set my refresh rate to 60, but nothing. Now, random pixels on my screen are red/pink/different colors at random times. When I move my mouse or a window around, random pixels change colors.
When I try to install Windows XP, it goes through the setup files (blue screen) like it's going to install and then I get a message that says "Setup Cannot Find CD-ROM Drive" blah blah blah. "Setup Cannot Continue". At this point it says to press F3 to reboot. So I remove the XP Disc and reboot. It then gives me an option of picking which system to log onto out of 3: Win Xp Media Center Edition, Win XP Media Center Edition again, or Windows XP Professional (which I've never had by the way. I have to choose the first one and it will go back to my computer. My computer has been having a lot of problems, so I just want to do a fresh install of XP and start over. I don't care if I lose anything
I had virus in my computer, finally I get ride of them...but now when I start my computer this message pups up "windows can not find C:windowssystem32printer.exe
I have a hard drive which was part of a dual drive dual boot system. Windows XP and linux.
However now that I have removed the Linux drive from my computer and no longer have access to it when I try to boot my XP drive I recieve a GRUB Hard Drive Error.
I asume that my MBR is trying to find the second drive and loading properly but I am not sure how to fix it.
my system is recently formatted. so when ever i delete some thing i guess it should be going to recyle bin. but to my surprise the short cut for that is missing on the desktop. how to find where my recyle bin would be.
I installed Windows XP Themes Pack on my laptop, but don't know how to find/use them. When I right click on my desktop and go to Properties/Themes, I don't see any new themes in the drop-down box.
where I can find themes for XP, or maybe even linux, that are based on artists like Jacek Yerka or some other surrealist like them? Like I'm googling them but not really finding anything.
I've been trying like hell to install Sony Vegas 6, but when I ran the install it said that I needed Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1. So I go to Microsoft's site to get the install and every time I try to download it I get a 404 Page Not Found Error. Can anyone tell me where to find this app? I really need it and it's driving me crazy that Microsoft doesn't just...have it. Here's the page where I tried to download in case it works for someone else.
When I look at Start-Up, there are entries like "My WebSearch Email Plugin" and they are supposed to start from "C:Program FilesMyWebSearchar6.binMWSOEMON.EXE" But when I use Windows Explorer to look in the C:Program Filse folder, I can not find the folder "MyWebSearch". Under "Tools" "Folder Options" "File Type" I have the "Show hidden files and folders" turned on (radio button selected). Also can't find MWSOEMON in the registry.
I'm currently going through my large collection of military aircraft photos and cropping any that need cropping.I right-click on the image, scroll down to 'Open With' and then click on 'Nero Photosnap Viewer'.However, before I can begin cropping I have to click off an odd message box from Windows. It says 'Windows cannot find Documents and Settings, (then my name), My Documents, Military Aircraft (then name of aircraft). Make sure you have typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search.'Thing is, how come Windows says it can't find the image when I'm sitting here looking at said image ?I do a search and any image I look for is there. Windows CAN find it during a search. What is this message all about, when clearly it is wrong ?
Not sure if this is a virus or an install problem or software conflict.Recently, computer slowed a lot and has to search for 2-3 minutes everytime we reference "My Computer".Also, several apps have an error message (usually when running something IE related perhaps a time-out issue?)that say "This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose "Switch to" to activate the busy program and correct the problem".But the kicker is, there IS no other program running.Sometimes it will connect when I hit the "try Again" button offered on the error message, but sometimes not.
I'm sorry to ask such a basic question but where can I find that pie chart that shows the space available on my computer? I have Windows XP and want to try and clean up some files and would like to see which ones take up the most space.
Well, I want to go to the registry to find my 25 digit CD Key for windows. I understand there are programs for it, and I have used them. Im just wondering if anyone knows where it is in the registry... and yes I do understand it will be encoded, probably in hexadecimal.
I`m running windows xp 64 bit on my laptop. I had the 32 bit OS earlier but since I became aware that the lappy was 64 bit capable I switched to the 64 bit OS thinking it`d be better.
Took a lot of problem solving but it works just fine, but i`ve kept the interface minimal. The problem is that it says found new hardware twice every time I start the lappy. I have connected to the net. It says can`t find software.
