View 2 Repliesfor a little while now i've been unable to connect to any servers, or at least thats what i think. I play lots of games online and so on. things were fine and then one day i recieved this error while trying to play 'halo' online. 'An error has occurred while trying to contact the gamespy master server'. after messing around with halo for a while i tried other games; doom3, quake3, counter strike and so on, but all with the same effect, i couldnt connect to a server. This was also the case when i tried to update Ad-aware, it freezes when i try to update. I've checked my firewall and individual programs but have come to no conclusion. have also tried 'system restores' but each time they fail?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Windows RAS connections to connect to servers via IP. Recently, they have "stopped working" the first time I connect, then every other time after that. The modem connects, I can log in just fine, it assigns me an IP address, but I can't ping the server. If I hang up and do it again, I can then ping the server. If I hang up and do it a 3rd time, it doesn't work. 4th time it does, etc, etc...I have dozens of servers I connect to and they all do this and it didn't do it a few weeks ago, so I know it's not the equipment. I have XP Pro verson 2002 Service Pack 2 and I'm current on all Microsoft updates. I have automatic updates setup and I do recall that my computer had reset (which means it did an update) a few days before I noticed the problem. I know Microsoft has had RAS issues in the past.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would normally always specify machines with XP Pro on them. However we
need to buy some new laptops for some staff who work away from our office,
and the only spec as supplied is with XP HomeThese machines only occasionnaly have to physically connect to our network in the office, but will always have to PN into our servers via the Internet.I am not really sure what the difference were between XP Pro and XP Home.
We have one computer that is unable to connect via RDP to two servers. The system gives an error "The remote session was disconnected because there are no Terminal Server Licenses". We know that it is a computer issue because we can have that same user logon to another computer and they can use RDP to connect to all servers. This is a fresh install of XP Pro SP3. We have 5 different servers that users can logon to, 3 are Server 2000 and the other 2 are Server 2003.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use mIRC and I've given it full access in my Firewall Zone Alarm free edition settings, but whenever I try to join a server, GameSurge in this case, I get this error: This never used to happen with the older version of ZoneAlarm, but I'm assuming this version has bug fixes or improved stability over the older one so I'm reluctant to go back to it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt has been suggested that using a proxy server will help to make my system more secure while I'm online. I looked at some of the suggested free proxy servers, but they seemed not to work well if at all. The explanations were well enough for me to follow but my system ran exceedingly slow or the sites I tried to access disallowed this. So I want to find a reliable site to buy one. I came across HIDE MY IP site and it looked easy to follow and was not overly expensive. My main thought was, how can I tell when a site which offers programs is actually not unscrupulous?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up my friends home network. They have 2 PCs connected via ethernet and one laptop on wireless. The router is a wireless router / modem from 2wire. PC number 2 and the laptop both connect with no issues. PC number 1 is weird though. I can go to 192.168.1.254 and it opens up the router system page and I can go through and change and view settings. However when I try to go to any websites it immediately goes to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I have tried netscape and the iTunes store and nothing can connect to the web. I have linux ubuntu on a Live CD and I can boot from that and it connects to the internet just fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIve been trying to add a wireless laptop to my desktop dsl. There are only two computers. The desktop win.xp already using dsl from att. And the new laptop with win.vista premium. Next is the linksys router which I cant make head or tails how to hook up. I called linksys and was asked to hold for a tech.that could help me set up the router. After fifteen minutes holding, the line is hung up by them and the phone goes dead. Im no better off now than before I made the call. And still not wired up to go online with the laptop. As for knowing which wire goes where I know nothing, 0, of how to place the wires. So Im hoping someone here can tell me. I went to HELP @ att and couldnt understand how to fix anything. Probably more fault being mine more than theirs.

My old computer is a Dell Optiplex GX1 Pent3 with a fresh install of Windows 2000. My brother had been using it with Win 98 and a dialup connection and all was fine. Prior to that I had it on a DSL connection. Now I want to get it back online at home where I have a cable modem and my usual computer with a DLink router.I know the router and cable are ok because I just had another XP computer on it.Nothing I do will seem to connect the Windows 2000 Pro to the internet . I tried disabling the onboard LAN connection(a 3COM 3C918 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller and installing another LAN card but that didn't work either. I also connected it to the modem without the router.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP SP3 and I did some updates two days ago: I allowed a java update that was hanging around in my lower tray for a couple weeks, updated my adobe to the latest version and I updated to Internet Explorer 8. After having IE8 for less than 24 hrs, my husband and daughter said they didn't like it, so I did a system restore to three days ago and now I can't connect to the internet at all. From the small amount of research I've been able to do here at work, it seems that once you download IE 8 you can't revert back to a previous version? Could anyone tell me if that's true? I can't even open the internet options tab from the control panel to see if there is a settings problem.

(It's NOT a laptop) I plugged the router into the computer and it can't find my network, or any, really. It works on a different computer. I'm guessing the wireless config is turned off or something. I have played around with the computer and can't seem to turn it on. Where would it be located? I'll post updates as I get them.

View 8 Replies View RelatedUpstairs, I have a desktop and a laptop. They are connected to my wife's computer, downstairs, via wireless. Both my wife's downstairs computer and my laptop, upstairs, will connect to the internet just fine, but the desktop will not, even though it shows that there is a strong signal being received. I am running Windows XP Pro, version 2002, with SP2. The computer has an AMD Athlon chip. It used to be a Tiny computer, but after having a major meltdown, about two years ago, I took it to a repair shop, and they installed an ASRock I/O K7S41/K7S41GX motherboard, as well as a new power supply, so I don't really know what to call my computer, now. I guess it's just sort of a mongrel, Heinz 57 Variety.
I have tried using System Restore, but it won't allow me to restore to a former point, no matter how far back in time I go. I started it up in safe mode, then ran AVG, but no viruses were found. When I go to Control Panel, then "Network Connections," it shows that the wireless network is up and running. Even so, I tried repairing the network, by right-clicking on "Repair," but got the following message: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem, because the following action could not be completed: Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed. For assistance, contact the person who manages your network." Unfortunately, that person is me, who is totally clueless
I formatted my pc, and when I go to My Network Places->Add a network place or set up a home or small ofice network, nothing happens and I cannot connect to the internet.I dont see the internet icon on my tool bar
