My problem is with the above drives. I have Windows XP Pro and have followed all the instructions to get drives back working. They did work just fine till I put an old program on which conflicted with windows which said it couldn't be accessed so I unintalled it and then lost all the drives. I have since been able to get them back where they are recognized in My Computer and in the bios. In the bios they were always recognized but not in My Computer or in System files. In Device Manager they say all are working properly but still cannot use them. Can anyone tell me what else to do? I have followed all windows instructions but still can't use them.
I brought her computer home to use for my school work. Someone signed into the Administrative / Owner name and somehow locked it. We don't have one of those password reset disk that the Windows website says. I have a disk that says "Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition System Recovery CD/DVD" I was told if I reinstalled Windows on the computer that it would erase the entire harddrive. There are alot of pictures on the computer, not to mention Microsoft Office, that I don't want to lose. My mom passed away suddenly and while I know her other passwords, this one is different which leads me to believe one of my younger cousins was messing with her computer and did something they didn't mean.Is there anyway possible to reset the password and use the computer without losing all the pictures on it?
I would like to be able to log access to my folders from the network. That is, I want to know when an administrator has accessed my drive. I have private/confidential information on my PC and do not want administrators to be able to access it, unless I give explicit permission.
When I D/Load some programmes I get access is denied. I had previouly reformatted my HD and now have drive F, when I try to access certain folders or /and executable programmes access is denied. Currently trying to install Roboform in Firefox
i just installed a fresh winxp pro, i did not set any password so the windows starts up without asking password, so i believed i have the administrative rights i have 2 local drives (c:) and (d:) i run gpedit.msc and configure the following:
1. remove run in start menu 2. remove search in start menu 3. prohibit command prompt to be use 4. Prevent access to drive access from my computer (drive c: only) 5. Hide specific drive in my computer (drive c: only)
i closed gpedit.msc now i cant re-run gpedit.msc to configure my settings again because i cannot access drive c: where gpedit resides (c:windowssystem32gpedit.msc) i dont want to re-install the whole thing or to start all over again. winxp expert
I did a terrible mistake today. Typically I install XP in C drive and keep My Documents folder in D drive. All of my hard disk drives (except the linux partitions) are NTFS. I encrypted the My Documents folder and all of its files and subfolders.Today I reinstalled XP in the C drive, after a quick format on it. I was unaware of the fact that what might be happened to My Documents folder. Now I can only view the files and folders inside My Documents folder. Neither I open any file, nor I decrypt those files. Windows is saying access denied.
a pc with windows xp pro suddenly started not to access the internet or the workgroup it normally worked on. ethernet card is present in hardware devices, network connection says it "is there", the IP numbers etc. are all as they were.I have even tried a rollback to the time it worked fine, but no net

I just picked up a Sony Vaio laptop F270. From what I can gather is it has (2) separate partitions. I want to do a complete wipe/format of the HD and get back to having (1) Large partition
I ran a windows recovery on my HardDrive yesterday - I selected NOT to delete any of my files. Now Ive set windows all up again, and I cannot access my documents. Firstly when i right click on the my documents folder it says 'empty', but when i try to double click it it gives me a 'cant access' error. My hard disk is showing on 1.8 Gb remaining, so my documents are still there somewhere, i just dont know how to access them?
I have 2 users that need to access things on each others computer from 87 miles away. Both computers are behind routers and both are running windows xp pro. They need to use their computers at the same time.
Files on my second hard drive were shared on the network (level 4, Network users could only read) and primary hard drive was reformatted and Windows XP sp2 was installed.(without the files being unshared) Now when trying to access the files the error "Access Denied" occurs and I cant access or delete the files (would really like to recover the data about four years worth of work taking up about 75% of the hard drive)
I am the Admin, and I can't change any of the folders propertys as I again get the "access denied" error. I've been looking everywhere for a solution to this, this is what I found from MS help (not very helpfull) A file's permission may differ from the containing folder if one of the following conditions is true:
I have XP SP 2 - Its been about a week since any of my pop3 accounts have worked (Gawab, Gmail, Spymac, Toughguy). The error messages I am recieving on all of my pop3 accounts are similar to :
The host 'pop.gawab.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'pop.gawab.com', Server: 'pop.gawab.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
I'm trying to access CHM (help) files shared on a server and it gives me the ie explorer error page and I can't see the continent of such files. But when I copy them to the local machine they work correctly. Is there any solution.
I reinstalled Windows with the backup feature provided with the backup (emachine). After I had updated windows completely & replaced my extensive collection of fonts I went to put all my personal files back. I get this message: Quote: "FOLDER LOCATION" is not accessible. Access is denied. It's the "C:Documents and SettingsOwner" folder
It has all my music, videos, photos, & work for things I do in it. I can get into my 'WINDOWS' folder and 'Program Files' but not that.
I have recently formatted my computer and reinstalled Windows. I had over 120 Gbs worth of video files I needed to keep, but since I only had about 20 Gbs of free HD space I created a new partition in the free space, put in as many files as would fit in it, expand the partition and repeated the procedure until all of the files were safely in the new partition. I then formatted the primary partition, installed Windows XP SP1 and then updated it fully (so now I have XP Home SP2 with the latest updates). Then I defragmented the C drive, merged the partitions and defragmented again. Now I cannot access (or actually use, since I can see them but I cannot open, move or delete) the files. Whenever I try to open the video files I get a error whichever media player I use (Windows Media Player, Winamp, VLC), and if I try to move or delete any of those files I get an error from Windows telling me to check whether the file is in use, write protected or if the disk is full or that I do not have enough permissions to perform that action. The only way I am able to move or delete those files is using a freeware app called "Unlocker", which reports that there are no programs currently using/locking those files (not even Explorer), but it does allow me to move or delete them (obviously I want to be able to open the files, not get rid of them). There were other files and folders in the partition that I merged into C: (using Partition Magic) but only the files in the folder that had the movies (as well as some srt, sub and idx subtitle files) are affected by this issue.

To perform a system recovery due to the fact that my computer would load and then only run for about 1 minute before completely freezing up. My problem now us that I am unable to access my old files and every time I try to access them i get the message
C:\Documents and Settings... Is Not accessible Access is denied
hp laptop's motherboard is no longer working, so I took out the hard drive and hooked it up to my pc. Both my laptop hard drive and my pc run XP. I am able to see most of the files from my laptop's hard drive, but am unable to access any files that were under a xp user that had a password.
I cannot access my files any longer. I installed WinXP on my desktop. You know the point at USER profile where you are asked whether to make files private or not? I chose to make files private. Recently my OS got corrupt and I had to repair it. The CD was not loading well, so I used another copy of WinXP. The new OS installed by my private files cannot be accessed. I slaved hard and installed WinXP on another hard as master by still, I cant access the hard. Trying to open it would tell the folder (user folder) cannot be accessed with that irritating system sound.
My computer started acting up. I ended up having to do a system recovery. When I did this though, it deleted all of my names (User accounts). In Windows Explorer I can still see them though, and even access the old files of that one.
Now, the main user account I used on this computer needed a password, so I assume that is why it is giving me an access denied message when I try to open it.
Is there any way I could be able to see these files? As I said, the accounts are erased from the main welcome page, so I wouldn't be able to click on it from there to type in a password.
I have been a victim of a virus attack. I was fortunate enough to not lose my files, however, I do not know how to access them.
I had an 80GB hard drive with an installation of Windows XP SP2 when the attack happended, as a result of the attack, I can no longer launch Windows.
I have since, installed another instance of Windows XP SP2 onto the same harddrive into a different folder. I can access this instance of windows fine, however when I try to browse to my other windows folder to access my files, I cannot.
I have a question.i have a fresh and newly installed windows xp ultimate edition service pack 3, the problem is when i go to my d: drive and open my folder for my mp4 file and highlight it or even just one click , it hangs.. because i'll just rearrange my files but i can't. nd also i have itunes & quicktime player.
My dell inspiron recently went on the blink and I was advised by dell to reload windows but before I did i attempted to salvage "my documents" folder. In doing this I purchased a hard drive enclosore and removed my harddrive from my laptop which was running xp and connected it to a laptop running vista, it showed all my files but i cannot access them, as soon as I try it displays the attached picyure! How I can access and save?
I had to re-install Windows XP Sp2 and I'm having a problem with the mailboxes and other files in my Eudora directory. Eudora is receiving access denied to the mailboxes and I cannot rename, copy or move the email box files with Windows Explore. I get an "access denied" error.
I've tried using an app to remove controls from the files but it says they aren't being controlled by another program. And "properties" says they are NOT read-only.
i wanted to merge 2 partitions using partition magic 8. i igot the thing started but got an error 1552: frs entry is free
so i booted and the new partition was unaccessible (small hd icon with a question mark). i rebooted again and the partition was online but i couldnt access my data on it. i ran chkdsk /f, it corrected loads of errors but i still cant access my data. it says: "access is denied". i really cant afford to lose this data.
I keep trying to access BIOS by tapping F2 or DELETE or F10 but the boot continues like no keys were tapped. Except for that, the computer functioning normally. Can someone tell me how to change it back to normal.
I have a dell workst precision 470 dual xeon, 3gb , 160gb maxtor hd sata 150 with win xp pro.created the floppy with PROBABLY THE RIGHT CONTROLER driver and pressed F6, then it was only one option in the list so i did that then, CONTINUW with an oem cd win xp pro spk 2, then at the WELCOME TO SETUP screen, i selected the "TO SETUP WINDOWS XP now press enter" then i got on the screen this Message: "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your comp. make sure any hard disk drives are powered and properly connected to your computer and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct this may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diag or setup program.set p cannot continue to quit setyp press F3".I have tested the hd with dell diag. tool and al test pass, i believe has to be that the mate boot record has been corrupted or a virus, the thing is i can not even run R console or the Repair/install cause of the above message, is there any suggestion to add this hd to another computer and be able to check the boot.ini and see what is wrong, this is a hd with only one partition, but the problem i have or the one that was created is cause i had a laptop hd that i could not make boot in the laptop so i took it and added to this comp. to the ide 1 controller and then i ran defrag on it, this one has two part c and d so c was the os and d was for other applications, i ran the defrag on it , then i did not remove from the device manager i just simply turn of the dell machine and Physicly remove the laptop hd, then when i was trying to boot the dell 470, i got the the stop error:"STOP: 0X0000007B(0XBA4EB524,0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)", so i think the Boot.ini file is corrupted, the machine is confused or the sata controller driver got corrupted, i am wondering of any sugestion about modifiying the boot.ini file or FIXMBR how in my case, i don't want to reformat the hd .
