WinSP2 Random Temporary Freeze

I have a problem wth WinXP pro SP2.I installaed the OS, the service pack and all the fixes on a IBM
Intellistation machine.Dual Xeon processors, 1.5 Gbyte of RAM, SCSI discs. no perfomance needs.The machine works perfectly and is well configured. No problems using Win2000 pro.Using WindowsXP pro SP2, the machine suddenly and randomly, freezes.The freeze is total and "solid", no response from the machine, no response
from network, no response from keyboard or mouse.After few seconds, or a minute, the machine wakes up and start working as nothing happened.

I can be doing anything, so not even be around the computer and it freezes, could freeze on the screen saver, or when im on hte internet, or playin a game, or writing an email anything.... not an overheating problem because it has happened say right after its done booting, or 5 mins after running or say 12 hours after being on.... or jsut not freeze seems to be really random

When I start windows Xp the bit right after Welcome I see my desktop background frozen for about 30 seconds. I can move the mouse but nothing appears to be happening with the hard drive for 30 seconds.

I had the same system configuration for over years and never had any problems. Just recently I started using wireless connection rather than regular LAN.I started having randomly freezing problem while browsing internet or even once playing game.More specifically, all applications but the mouse freezes randomly and then after about 1 sec the screen flashes into black, but it turns back to the windows after another sec or two and then everything just froze, not able to move the mouse any more nor open up Process Manager. My only option is hit the hard-reset button and restart the windows.Everything back to normal after restart. Since the problem occurs randomly, its really hard for me to know where to diagnose the problem.

it usually happens when im like working on it for about 2hrs or something. the pc would go dead, and reboot. or windows would hang, and from the hard disk led, i can see that it is all busy and unavailable. ta ta. its getting on my nerves. i just recovered my system from new.net, and now i have slower internet connection. no nothing wrong with the isp. i suspect there maybe reminents of the old virus still holding back windows. could my fears turn out to be true? i have had the liberty of posting my HJT log here, so do point out anything suspicious and also anything that could slow down the system..

I got a new computer and I have been having problems with my mouse. I have a simple optical wired mouse. During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem.

all my databases up-to-date. Recently, my computer was infected with the
Trojan Backdoor.SdBot virus, and I looked on the Norton Antiviruses website
to get rid of it and fix the computer. So now, at this time, I believe my
computer is clean.

My computer seems to just hang up on me like it gets stuck in "idle" mode and doesn't let me have any keyboard/mouse control and I am forced to do a manual shut down and lose any data I may have been working on.

Windows XP Pro Temporary files, which are usually created in my local temp folder (C:/Documents and Settings/my files/Local Settings/Temp) have suddenly moved location to WINDOWS/Temp. Nothing is created in any users' temp folders, all temp files are now dumped into the WINDOWS/Temp folder.
At the same time, Carbonite stopped working, and I now get error messages that Carbonites Secure Backup Communications Service has failed. Of course, these two may not be related, and Carbonite support are helping me to sort out the problem with their program - but it may be a clue? The only other changes made in the same period this problem with the Temp folder happened was an automatic upgrade of Thunderbird and an upgrade of Adobe Flash Player. Everything else seems to be functioning correctly on my computer. Has anyone an explanation as to why this happened and does it matter?

When I copy to a CD it states files were copied to a temporary file folder. However, that folder no longer appears for me as it did previously. I had this problem earlier and received helpful resolution at this site but can no longer find my previous post.

I just booted up my HP NC6120 laptop (Win XP Pro, 512MB RAM, plent of free HDD space, etc.) to which I have administrator rights and went to log in with my normal username/password, but I get three error messages. The first one says something to the effect "cannot create temporary profile. may be caused by insufficient rights." I then have to click ok or it times out in 30 secs or something like that.After that window closes another opens saying something like "cannot load profile. logged on with default profile". Windows then appears to be loading, but I get a blank light blue screen with only a blank window w/ red error 'x' on it and nothing else. I click ok, it says it's logging me off. I am able to log into Safe Mode (typing from there now). Everything in my docments folders are still there, etc. So I created a new user account with admin rights, but get the same error messages when tring to log in normally (not via safe mode).

I just need a clarification. Are there any temporary files on a computer that need to be kept. I remember doing research on the topic many years ago and I could have swore there are some applications that actually require a tmp file (most likely created by itself) to function. I'm just wondering because a TS guy told me that it was quite alright to issue the following command from a command prompt.

I am trying to install an upgrade program (Tom Tom SatNav Software) to my PDA. This has to be done through the desktop PC When I insert the CD into the drive of my PC and try to run the Setup program I get the error message " Not enough free space on temporary folder" "Cannot run Setup" I can't find a Temporary folder with anything in it, I have deleted all the cookies and Temporary Internet files but still the same message.

I read online that sometimes deleting the temporary folder can speed up outlook express. I've already done this in IE, but not on the computer. I believe to get to the folder you Run > %temp% The files said that their is a cleanup utility in XP that can help to clear this folder. I looked on my computer and searched online, but can't find the information on how to get it.

I only wanted to keep 3 or 4 fonts on my computer so I drag n dropped my Fonts folder to my D drive (CD burner). I decided not to do this after all and figured I'd delete the temporary folder from my D drive but it will not remove 2 of the fonts: arialbi and micross, so now I'm stuck with a temporary folder in my D drive. I booted up in safe mode and tried to delete them and can't do it that way, either. How do I get rid of this temporary folder?

I play a certain game online, and I have dial-up, so 5MB every time I play takes more than long enough to download. I can get to the Temporary folder via the browser options menu, but there's no way to drag files into that folder in case they get deleted. So I was wondering if there is a program or something I can use to prevent certain files form getting deleted.

Temporary internet file is set to Zero and i can't change it. I slide the bar around and the box with MB beside it doesn't seem to repond. This is allowing me not to g on certain sites and i can't use the history thing. i set the history to 3 days but none is showing up. This is all the the Temporary Internet File Settings under Tools. When ever I click the OK button regardless of my setting it says: Please select a value between 1 and 0 on how much disk space temporary file may use.

Windows XP SP2, and using TreeSize Free, i found out that i have so many gigs wasting away in my temporary internet files folder. it seems like every time i watched a video online, it was saving a copy in there? Is there a way to stop that from happening, so i don't have to delete all of it after it builds up?

Temp to clear the temporary internet files. I have installed Dual OS - Win 98 in C: and Win XP in D:. I am using Win XP mainly. For the past few months when i try to use this command it throws an error at me saying Windows cannot find D:Documents. But i know that usually there will no folder called Documents rather than Documents and Settings.

I have since download foxfire and everything is working fine.

I click on a site saw dick all there n clicked back.1 min later ive been getting these .exe files in my temp folders n my virus scan is always deleteing them n they keep on reporduceing itself anyways the name is backdoor trojan if anyone can tell me any programs,software to get rid of it , or any advice/support work be great guys
I was surfing threw the wbe to find some keys for my dish network, anyways, i clicked on a site threw Google and so nothing interesting so i clicked back 30 secs later Norton started picking up virus and spy-ware repetitively so i did a full scan and it picked up one file which i deleted next i turned it to safe mode and restarted next thing i know my computer will not load to desktop once it reaches to loading desktop icon it restarts itself over and over again

I have XP system. Can someone explain my temporay internet folder C:documents & settingspaullocal settings emporary internet files? I can clear all the files and then open My Yahoo or go to any internet site and the folder will then have maybe 100 files in it. If not cleared out in a couple days it can have 800 or more files in it. I do not do a lot of browsing but that folder baffles me. Is it supposed to do that or is wrong? I run anti virus & anti spam programs

Windows XP media Center seems to be completely hiding folders from me. When I untick "Hide protected operating system files and folders" then right click properties my Temporary internet file folder, it says there's 71 folders within it. I can't see ANY of these folders in my browser. If I boot up my other OS (Win XP 64 bit) I can view these folders just fine. Furthermore, within media center edition, I can access Temporary Internet FilesContent.IE5 if I type it in manually, and can see 68 folders within.
Now, why would Media center be hiding Content.IE5 when supposedly I have display EVERYTHING turned on? I fear a malicious program may be doing this. An OS reinstall isn't a big deal for me, but I'd rather not.

This setting can be easily be changed within Internet Explorer. Configuring Temporary Internet Files in Internet Explorer: When Internet Explorer is open, click on Tools and then select Internet Options. On the General tab, under Browsing history, click the Settings button. Click Move folder. Then select the new drive and folder you want to use and click OK to exit the property pages.

Just wondered if someone could help me, when I receive an attachment in OUtlook - e.g. word / excel doco. If I save this without saving as - it goes into my Temporary Internet Folder, which is really hard to try and find. I'm currently doing this via C:Documents and SettingsusernameLocal SettingsTemporary Internet Files in my favourites - but if I just enter that in manually it comes up with Cookies / IE information that I'm not requiring.
