Access to this folder is denied, even though I have no password protection on any user account, and this IS the only account set up.
For some time now I have been unable to use the windows xp search function. It starts out all right but always crashes before it completes anything. Sometimes it actually manages to find some files before it crashes.I cannot see any pattern as to a specific location causing it to crash. Originally I thought it was doing it cuz I had WordPerfect open whenever I started the search, but recent attempts to run a search with NO programs open give me the same crashes.

However, after I reinstalled, I could not access or use any of the old software or files that were still on the computer such as microsoft office. When I try to open and use the software, it takes me into the software screen (ie a blank document for word/excel) and it tells me that the software is not installed under the current user and then the program closes down. I also cannot access my documents saved under my user name. When I try to open the folder, it tells
me that I do not have access to it. It will not allow me to edit its name or delete it as well. In addition, it keeps telling me the folder is empty when I right click and look on its properties while at the same when I go up a folder and look under properties, the same folder has 9 megs in it.
I've got a machine running Win XP Home SP 2. Ther is a folder containing files in the Program Files folder that I want to delete. When I attempt to delete any of them, either to the recycle bin not, I get an error "Access Denied - ...". I am the computer administrator. The only help I could find on Microsoft site tells me to have the administrator change my privileges or the permissions on the files. Well, since I am the administrator, it seems like I should be able to do it myself.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two machines on my home net and both run XP-Pro.Problem 1 is that I have something like 30k files in the recyclers on my D Drive that I can't delete.Problem 2 is that I recently did a restore from a backup and even though user names, admin access etc are same I can't access open or even delete many of the unused folders. I have tried moving them to shared files folder, and using my admin privilege to take ownership and or change attributes but nothing so far works. Safe boot, safeboot command prompt all nada.

Having only limited knowledge of the workings of computers, I was a little puzzled to find that I didn't have an option to set her account to 'Limited', but proceeded anyway. I am still having problems with my Windows Installer!! I clicked on start then control panel>then clicked on Administrative tools>then component services>
then i clicked on Services(Local) then i scrolled down the list to Windows Installer, where it says status, it is blank. It doesn't say stopped or started so i clicked on start the service and i got an error 5 message; Could not start the Windows Installer,access is denied. I recently (two weeks ago) upgraded my system from W98 to W2k. The first time I installed, the program , I did it keeping my w98 folders etc. Ther were some errors and I tried to re-install, choosing the overwrite option. (also downloaded service pack one! I tried to download service pack 4 but it told me there was not enough memory) I have been left with two W2k directories. I have been using the most recent one (the preferred one) and have slowly been copying my important files using my flash disk from the other W2k directory. The only problem I have had is that althought the drivers and soft ware are installed, everytime I connect and switch my digital camera on, the sytem reboots. Iwanted to "defrag " the preferred W2k directory but was told there was not enough disk space. I thought then to uninstall programs on the other W2k diectory that I was not using. ie. mainly software etc for which I have disk and have reinstalled on the preferred W2k directory. Well after I had finished I rebooted, and then the trouble began! I cannot get into the "preferred" W2k directory. I swear I did not change or remove any settings or programs.

It seems that "randomly" when I lose connection to my wireless access point, I will get a Generic Host Process for Win32 crash. I have disable the forced shutdown that usually occurs after this happens, but since it renders the system mostly unusable, I have to reboot anyway. What's odd is that it doesn't happen every time I lose connectivity to the network.

About a week ago my computer was degenerating to such a condition that it would no longer start up properly: it would not load some of the host process properly at start up and the desk top would not appear. The system would hang up, and the only way I could access files was in safe mode.So I decided to do a Full System Recovery and allow the computer to restore itself to some sort of usable condition. Upon completing the initial set up I was presented with, I pressed FINISH and the system froze again, refusing to load the desktop.
So, perhaps foolishly, I attempted a System Recovery from the Recovery DVDs the computer had prompted me to make a while ago, as well as a few more System Restores and Recoveries
I am unable to access "System Information" in System Tools. Nothing happens when I click on it.

It recommended disabling thumbnails previews, which did work for opening the folder.That is fixed, but now I am getting errors when I try to open certain media files i those folders, I can open one .avi but will not be able to open another. Same with .mpg, I will be able to open 10, but one consistantly will cause Explorer.exe to crash. I had K-lite codecs installed, I tried uninstalling them to see if that was causing problems. I have no idea what is going on.
