System Restore Not Creating Restore Points

Feb 22, 2005

My system restore is no longer creating any restore points, I have to do it manually. About 3 weeks ago I had a virus that I believe I got rid of using HiJackThis. That virus shut off my system restore so that it could not be used and at that time I lost all my restore points. Now my computer seems fine except for the system is not creating any NEW restore points.

System Restore Has Stopped Automatically Creating Check Points?

Aug 3, 2005

For some reason System Restore has stopped automatically creating System Checkpoints. It is turned on, and is set to use the Maximum amount of space for monitoring my C drive. Yes, there is a great deal of unused disk space. I had used Disk Cleanup/ More Options/System Restore Cleanup prior to the problem, only that one option, not any of the other Disk Cleanup options. So, I have no earlier Restore Points to restore to, only the ones which I have Manually created since.

System Restore Wont Work: Unable To Get Restore Points?

Feb 13, 2005

I am unable to acess any of my or XP's restore points. When I went to restore to an earlier date. All appeared to be going as it should. However, when I got to my profile a message window came up that said unable to restore to (chosen date/time) etc. I chose 3 other restore points over the last month, thinking it might be some recent problem, still a no go. Any help would be greatly appreciated? Is there a utility to use to check and see if there is something corrupted?

System Restore Finding Manual Restore Points

Nov 10, 2007

My comp has been experiencing several problems and is running poorly. I bought an external HD, completely backed up everything important and was about to run a system restore as I had created a manual restore point following the resolution of previous problems. The link to the thread is found below. However, when I use the system restore wizard, I can only select November 8th, 9th, and 10th and today is the 10th. I created the manual restore point back in March 2006. I cannot change the month and I have no idea where to find manual points.

System Restore Queries - 30 Or 40 Restore Points

I just reformatted by Toshiba laptop computer to take it back to original state. I have installed minimum programs at this point. Before I do any adding I go in and set a system restore point. When I went in to do this the first time I found that there was a whole list of system restore points for a program install. It is not a program I installed on my computer this time around, although it was installed previous to my reformatting.System restore shows this program installed every 10-15 minutes ad there's a list of at least 30 or 40 restore points each day.

System Restore Wont Work: Wont Restore To Earlier Points?

Sep 18, 2005

Was having a problem with the computer, doing weird things so I thought that I might go back and do a restore from an earlier point to see if it solved the problem. Anyway, went to earlier point, restored sort of, after it did everything, it told me it could not restore to that point and that nothing was done. I went to another restore point further back, same message, was not installed at the restore point, current settings are intact. Did this 2 more times, same results. I have made restore points along with the ones the systme makes. None of them works.

System Restore Points Not Retained From Day To Day?

Jun 11, 2006

My XP Home System Restore function works when I manually create a restore point, however, the following day (on the calendar) that point is no longer available. I can create several restore points and all are gone the next day. It used to work fine and there would be weeks of restore points. Occasionally I would turn the function off and remove all past points and then turn it back on and it would create a system check point and the next day yet another check point, etc. Now it does not retain even a single point for more than a day.

System Won't Create Restore Points

Jun 2, 2008

For what ever reason my computer won't create restore points anymore. I've tried a couple of things suggested like disabling restore points then enabling it, letting it just sit idle and I've checked that I have enough room ( there's lots of room ). The last time I used restore was about 9 to 12 months ago and it was working fine then. So I'm just looking for some ideas as to what else I might try. My o/s is XP Home.

Restore Points On Operating System

Mar 16, 2006

What can cause the restore points on the XP OS to become corrupted. For the second time in 6 months I have had to do a complete restore of my system as none of the restore points would work. I have not set up any of the points myself as the system seems to do it every day anyhow. It just seems that all of a sudden none of the restore points will work and it comes back and says my system has not been restored to such and such a date. I like this feature as it gets me out of some jams but is it possible to use it too much.

System Restore Not Creating System Checkpoints

Aug 7, 2005

I am running windows xp home spe2 on my computer. System restore will not create the "system checkpoint" for me at a given time interval. I will list what I have done so far to help diagnose my problem. I typed eventvwr.msc in the run line. Clicked system on the left, then source on the right. I found some events for sr, but these were the ones I did myself when turning off, then back on system restore. Task scheduler and system restore services are running. I confirmed this by typing cmd, then net start in the run line.

I have the space allowed on my hard drive set to the max, and there are 25 GB free. I am able to create manual system restore points and they are also created if I install/uninstall a program. I have reinstalled system restore using the sr.inf file. I used the "xpsystemrestoreponitsfrequency.vbs" to change my time interval to 1 hour just to see if it worked, but it didn't. I checked my registry settings for system restore. Disable SR is set to 0. Restore status is set to 1 (I posted that because I thought one means
disable in the registry, but I don't know what restore status is) I do have a screen saver on, my system is set so the hard drive turns off after 1 hour, but never goes into standby or hibernation. I am not sure what else to do at this point or what to check. If anyone else has suggestions, please let me know. At this point I am frustrated because I can not get this to work.

Restore Points - Updates Are Installed

Sep 19, 2006

My System Restore has 3 basic kinds of restore points it creates. 1. It creates a RP when new software or Windows Updates are installed.2. It creates a RP when I tell it to make one manually.3. Then there are System Checkpoints it makes seemingly on it's own with no trigger I can find.It is the third kind I'm curious about. What are these System Checkpoints, and why are they created, and is there any way to regulate when they take place? I know people who have none of these Checkpoints. I know people who have one every several weeks. And I know people who have nearly one per day created. What regulates when these auto checkpoints are created?

Allocated Space For Restore Points

Jun 29, 2007

An HP a1624n with Windows Media Center 2005 with 250 Gig hard drive. The drive also contains a partitioned Recovery area. Everything was running fine until I reduced my allocated space for restore points from 12% to 10%. At that time, it got to where the only restore points retained were ones from the current and previous day, which was only one or two very recent points. I ran my Norton AV, Ad-aware, Spybot, and CCleaner. I then turned off System Restore, rebooted, started System Restore and increased allocated space back to 12%.
