Remove All Restore Points
May 2, 2007
I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO RESTORE MY COMPUTOR [PC- XP, serv.pac2 ] TO AN EARLIER DATE BUT I CAN NOT DO ANY DATE AT ALL .One reason could be according to windows is that because a anti-virus program removed a file. Thus it will not let me restore. MY QUERY IS-if i click on the system restore [in the system dialogue box] it says 'that it remove all of my restore points' [my words]Thus what does this mean and why would you do it if u can not re enter- because there is no restore points and if i go ahead with this process will it still reset my pc 2 an earlier point? a confused, mitom- TA.

I create a new Restore Point each month as I start my monthly maintenance sequence and also SpyBot seems to create one. I see by the Restore Point calendar that there seems to be a Restore Point for each day in October. I'm curious as to what process is creating these Restore Points but mainly I'm wondering how to delete some (most) of them. Aren't they consuming a humongous ammount of disk space?

I recently downloaded some drivers as I was trying to install a new printer who's software would'nt load. This did'nt solve the problem. I decided to get a printer that I had had before, Brother DCP-110C as I knew this had worked well. I tried to install yesterday (28th July) but could'nt and my PC keeps switching itself off near the end of the installation. I then thought I would use System restore to go back to a happier time when I had the first Brother printer. previous saved point wont let me to restore

I am unable to acess any of my or XP's restore points. When I went to restore to an earlier date. All appeared to be going as it should. However, when I got to my profile a message window came up that said unable to restore to (chosen date/time) etc. I chose 3 other restore points over the last month, thinking it might be some recent problem, still a no go. Any help would be greatly appreciated? Is there a utility to use to check and see if there is something corrupted?

I'm trying to do a system restore without success. It goes through the motions but after it restarts always say "cannot use restore point, no changes have been made to your system". I'm trying to correct a font setting change that happened without my knowledge.

My comp has been experiencing several problems and is running poorly. I bought an external HD, completely backed up everything important and was about to run a system restore as I had created a manual restore point following the resolution of previous problems. The link to the thread is found below. However, when I use the system restore wizard, I can only select November 8th, 9th, and 10th and today is the 10th. I created the manual restore point back in March 2006. I cannot change the month and I have no idea where to find manual points.

My system restore is no longer creating any restore points, I have to do it manually. About 3 weeks ago I had a virus that I believe I got rid of using HiJackThis. That virus shut off my system restore so that it could not be used and at that time I lost all my restore points. Now my computer seems fine except for the system is not creating any NEW restore points.

The System Restore service has been suspended because there is not enough disk space available on the drive \?Volume{e01463d0-1a8a-11d6-affd-806d6172696f}. System Restore will automatically resume service once at least 200MB of free disk space is available on the system drive."

I just reformatted by Toshiba laptop computer to take it back to original state. I have installed minimum programs at this point. Before I do any adding I go in and set a system restore point. When I went in to do this the first time I found that there was a whole list of system restore points for a program install. It is not a program I installed on my computer this time around, although it was installed previous to my reformatting.System restore shows this program installed every 10-15 minutes ad there's a list of at least 30 or 40 restore points each day.

My XP Home System Restore function works when I manually create a restore point, however, the following day (on the calendar) that point is no longer available. I can create several restore points and all are gone the next day. It used to work fine and there would be weeks of restore points. Occasionally I would turn the function off and remove all past points and then turn it back on and it would create a system check point and the next day yet another check point, etc. Now it does not retain even a single point for more than a day.

For what ever reason my computer won't create restore points anymore. I've tried a couple of things suggested like disabling restore points then enabling it, letting it just sit idle and I've checked that I have enough room ( there's lots of room ). The last time I used restore was about 9 to 12 months ago and it was working fine then. So I'm just looking for some ideas as to what else I might try. My o/s is XP Home.

My System Restore has 3 basic kinds of restore points it creates. 1. It creates a RP when new software or Windows Updates are installed.2. It creates a RP when I tell it to make one manually.3. Then there are System Checkpoints it makes seemingly on it's own with no trigger I can find.It is the third kind I'm curious about. What are these System Checkpoints, and why are they created, and is there any way to regulate when they take place? I know people who have none of these Checkpoints. I know people who have one every several weeks. And I know people who have nearly one per day created. What regulates when these auto checkpoints are created?

I have XP.I've noticed that my System restore has created restore points almost on a daily basis. Is this normal?I seem to recall not too long ago restore points at best were like maybe 4 or 5 in a month.I have close to 200GB in 2 hard drives, and 1K of memory if that helps.I did notice that the slider for my System Restore memory is at the max of 12%. I assume thats normal?

What can cause the restore points on the XP OS to become corrupted. For the second time in 6 months I have had to do a complete restore of my system as none of the restore points would work. I have not set up any of the points myself as the system seems to do it every day anyhow. It just seems that all of a sudden none of the restore points will work and it comes back and says my system has not been restored to such and such a date. I like this feature as it gets me out of some jams but is it possible to use it too much.

An HP a1624n with Windows Media Center 2005 with 250 Gig hard drive. The drive also contains a partitioned Recovery area. Everything was running fine until I reduced my allocated space for restore points from 12% to 10%. At that time, it got to where the only restore points retained were ones from the current and previous day, which was only one or two very recent points. I ran my Norton AV, Ad-aware, Spybot, and CCleaner. I then turned off System Restore, rebooted, started System Restore and increased allocated space back to 12%.

I'm running the F@H software 24/7 (that's something like the SETI@Home), and it uses all of my idle CPU time, which means that my WinXP Pro with SP2 can't create restore point automatically since it doesn't see any time that my PC is idle. But it would be no problem at all since the F@H's process has the lowest priority so the kernel could easily take over it. So, is there a way to tweak the registry in such a manner that the System Restore ignores my CPU load and creates a Restore point all by itself? I know where to define my Restore points' lifespan and the intervals they're created between,

Was having a problem with the computer, doing weird things so I thought that I might go back and do a restore from an earlier point to see if it solved the problem. Anyway, went to earlier point, restored sort of, after it did everything, it told me it could not restore to that point and that nothing was done. I went to another restore point further back, same message, was not installed at the restore point, current settings are intact. Did this 2 more times, same results. I have made restore points along with the ones the systme makes. None of them works.

I have got 3 partitions on my HDD namely C, D and E drive.C is the windows drive , the other two are normal data storage drives. Yesterday when i started the PC, i found that all the folders on my E drive have become empty and the files which i can see do not work. Everything on the partition has become useless.Even though all folders show 0 files, the used disk space is same as before. Is it some kind of virus?
One more thing, i tried to system restore. When i reached the system restore screen, i found out that all my restore points are gone and i cant restore my PC to any earlier date, even though i have assigned nearly 20% of each disk for creating restore points. Even the calendar in system restore screen wont show a previous month except the current month.

I start System Restore Wizard (because I've never done this before and it seemed like an easy way to go about it), but the earliest restore point is June 23rd (or threabouts). My question: Is there any way to go back before that?

Start button - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup - More Options. You will have the option to delete all but the most recent restore points. I had over 2 gigabytes of restore points. To permanently reduce the space System Restore takes up, right click 'My Computer' - properties and on the System Restore tab adjust the settings.
