Supervisor Is Logged On / Parental Control Is OFF / Setup Norton Security

I just purchased a new Media Center PC running MCE 2005. Circuit City installed Norton Internet Security program.Currently, it says that Supervisor is logged on/Parental Control is OFF. I am currently the only user, but I would like to setup at least 2 other users. I have setup a Passport, but I have not set a password for my user account. I am confused on whether I need to setup the password in Norton Security or in Windows User Accounts where I setup my passport account? I understand that I can have Norton control user accounts or Windows control user account. Which one am I likely to have the least problems with? If I
select Windows to manage the user accounts, do I setup my user accounts with passwords before I run Norton to assign account types to user accounts? There does not seem to be a forum for Norton Internet Security that I can post too?
Since this is a very new PC, I want to make sure I do not do anything wrong. I have read the info on how to setup Norton Security, but I am still confused on where I log on and off (Norton has a log on/off option) and where I setup the accounts first. Since I have not setup what account
manager I am going to use I am not sure that Norton is configured properly.
I do not show the Security Center Icon in the Control Panel. I can go to the Security Center by going to All Programs, Accessories, System Tool, route. How can I add Security Center to Control Panel?
I get random pop-ups (usually w/ mundane messages) from my Norton security & when I "X"-click on em to go away, they do go away.....for like, 2 seconds & pop back up again.howto get em to stop doing that repeatedly?
Has anyone tried the new "Norton Internet Security 2007" product with Windows XP Pro?I read a good review on it at the pcmag.com website and I am trying to decide if I want to buy it? I will be using it with my laptop computer which I use with a wireless router with built-in firewall. I am mainly concerned with Viruses, Spyware, Adware, and wireless security.I know that previous version of Norton Internet Security have gotten bad reviews, buy it looks like they got their act together on this one.
After installing Norton AntiVirus 2007 I received the following message when I opened the security center in the control panel; The Security Center is currently unavailable because the "Security Center" service has not started or was stopped. Please close this window, restart the computer (or start the "Security Center" service), and then open the Security Center again. I have naturally restarted the computer but that didn't fix the problem. I don't know that the problem is connected to the installation of Norton 2007, (upgraded from 2005), but the Security Center was available before the installation.
My wife just got an Gateway M320S notebook with WinXP Pro, SP2. It also has a built-in wireless card. From the very first bootup, it took several minutes. First I thought it was the Norton Internet Security 2005 that came pre-installed, but when I disabled all of it's elements in msconfig, it doesn't boot any faster. I have a nightmare with my notebook which is installed with Norton Internet Security.On booting up the notebook, a triangular icon(inside with an exclamation mark or an X)appeared on the bottom right bar. The icon appeared with a message to warn me of spyware attack. On clicking the icon, it took me to IE for http://www.spylocked.com/?aff=334 or http://www.wayofprotection.com/soft/. I also found my IE is installed with a 'Security Toolbar 7.1'.
In the Control Panel, I found a program 'Internet Explorer Secure Bar' which I wanted to delete. However, once I click the 'change/move' button to delete the program, it required me to reboot before deleting but on reboot, no deletion of the program took place. I want to know how to delete the program.I also want to know how to delete the icon on the right bottom.
I had Windows ME and upgraded to XP via the upgrade disk. All went well and I was asked to uninstall Norton Internet Security before installing again to take "make it work again" in the new environment.I am trying to reinstall but for some reason, the NAV install window keeps telling me there is an existing copy of NAV that I have to remove before I can install again.I've searched through the normal areas but am having no luck. These include the Add/Remove facility, Windows Explorer, and the Search facility.
Having just updated to the Antispam version of NIS my System Restore now refuses to operate properly. I can open it (sometimes) but as soon as I try to do anything with it it hangs. Most other programs are not affected except as I close IE now, I get an error message "The instruction at "1x127cfb80" referenced memory at"0x0215ad58". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program." This may or may not be related.I tried removing NIS 2005 and System Restore came back to normal but having reinstalled - the problem now re-occurs. Symantec website is useless and I cannot find any telephone numbers.Has anyone else had a similar problem?
I have the Deer in the Headlights feeling so please be kind.I recently bought a T5010 Desktop Pentium 4 eMachine pre loaded with Microsoft Windows with XP Home pre installed. It includes an Optical Drive DVD+/RW 16x Double Layer Multi-Format Drive. I have installed the Norton Internet Security 2005 which came with a free 90 day subscription. A firewall is included in the Norton Setup. The problem is that I can't burn any audio CD-R's that will play in my 2 Technics CD players. I rip music to my Windows media player and can play them on the computerIt's a Windows media player vs. 10. My new recorded music from the new computer will play on my portable CD player and my brothers non Technics player fine
This tweak works also if your Using Zone Alarm or Zone Alarm Pro V.3.7. I found out by applying this tweak for Nortons with my Zone Alarm program. If you are using Norton Internet Security 2002, and are experiencing slow start-up of XP. i.e. you can see the desktop with icons etc. but it takes 30-60sec before you can start using the computer.1. Click on start buttom.2. Select control panel3. Open “Network Connections”4. Under “LAN and High-Speed Internet”, right-click on your “Local Area Connection” and select “Properties”5. Under “General” tab, select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and select “Properties.6. Select “Use the following IP address:” 7. Under “IP address” enter following : 192.168.0.X (Replace X with a value between 1 and 254. If you have multiple computers, pick differnt numbers for each computer on your network)8.
Just the other day I started to be unable to access my IBM thinkpad laptop T60, because it freezes after i press the security control alt delete at login for Windows XP, the one you have to get through before typing in your password. The keyboard works fine until that point, because i have an encryption password/username point to get through before startup, and everything is O.K. However, after I get to CTRL-ALT-DLT, the computer stops recognizing anything even the mouse stops moving. The only thing I can do at this point is to force quit the mouse mysteriously is moveable when it starts shutting down again.
I just purchased a certified used Lenovo laptop, 3000 C200, 8922-2FU. On booting up, the Client Security Setup Wizard comes up and it has no place to click where you can tell it not to come up again. I do not want to use this feature so each time I have to click cancel and then again click, yes I am sure. Very frustrating. I have tried everything. I called tech support but they did not know so they are researching it and said they would call back.
I think that I have a virus which is stopping me from 1) Installing Norton Internet Security 2005 properly, and 2) Stopping me from accessing all anti-virus related sites, for example - www.symantec.com, ww.grisoft.com, www.pandasoftware.com, and when i tried to download AVG 6.0 from another site which was unrelated to antivirus, I found that I could access the site but the download failed.
While switching from V&S to XP forum, my Welcome to beach & log out have disappeared. I assume I'm still logged in as I can post this message. Have tried "reload" button & going "home" & returning & still not there.Only "tech republic: 10 things..."there. or perhaps a temporary glitch as log in area under repair (which I wasn't aware of)?
My WinXP SP2 computer restarts its self just as it logs in to any account.
I woke up to find my computer had an error on it. It had been on all night and connected to the internet (if that helps you understand the situation). The error was something like this:

and 'Explorer.exe' was something else a couple times (if I saw it I would remember)
I kept clicking 'OK' and It would keep appearing, then the start menu and taskbar would disappear and appear. The warning kept appearing. I restarted properly and then the computer would keep restarting after "Windows is starting up...".
I tried going into Safe Mode and Safe Mode in Command Prompt and still restarts when I get to logging in.
I thought if I got to MS-DOS, I could launch System Restore and go back to a previous state, but it's easier said then done.
I have tried to boot from a Win98 CD, but I couldn't locate the C:WINDOWS directory.
I've tried to boot from a Office 2000 Pro CD that had Word, Excel, and Outlook. I could brouse around the CD in Command Prompt, but that didn't help much.
Now, I'm onto booting from an WinXP upgrade CD. I've tried reinstall Windows, and when Windows Installation is just about done, the computer restarts and I had to restart all again. When I start up now, it is WinXP without Service Pack 2. In Microsoft Windows XP Recovery Console, I have tried to open System Restore ("C:WINDOWSSystem32Restore strui.exe"), but I just get 'The command is not recognized. Type HELP for a list of supported commands.' Does anyone know how to open System Restore in Microsoft Windows XP Recovery Console? Or even if is possible. Am I even on the right path?
Can anyone give me any hints as to WHY this error happened and what to do now to get my pc started properly?
I also have my all my files on a partitioncalled D: and I am willing to try to reinstall Win2K again and upgrade to XP. One more question is if I format or reinstall on the C: drive, will it effect the D: partition?
Hibernate and Standby were working fine on the machine. But since about a week. Both the Standby and Hibernate feature are not working. The detailed explanation is given below. I have three account profiles all set to admin. The computer does go on standby or hibernate when on the welcome screen but only if no one is logged on. If I have logged on, and then i select standby or hibernate nothing happens. After this if i try to shut down the computer it kind of hangs halfway through the shutdown process. It seems that it is trying to hibernate and shutdown at the same time.
If I have not requested for a hibernate or standby, and then try to shutdown the computer. It shuts down properly. if I log-off to the welcome screen and no other account is logged on then also the hibernate and standby work fine. I have tried to run system restore, but when it boots up in the restore process, i get a message that no changes have been made try another restore point... i have tried many points but it does not work.... am totally confused. I have also reinstalled the patch on the Microsoft website for XP where a machine with more than 2Gb of ram needs to hibernate.
Article 871211 is titled "How to check if you are logged in as an administrator and if a group policy is in place for your computer". When clicking on the link to the article, a message appears stating "The article you requested is currently not availble". Been trying for three days.Does anyone have this article or can shed some light on how to check if you are logged in as an administrator? Need to be able to do this in a script.
Computer I have came with Windows XP pro. It had one account available called Administrator. I wanted to change this and found it would not let me change the name. So I opened another account (with my name) and gave it administrator privileges. As far as I know, you can have more than one administrator account. Every thing seemed OK until I logged out. When I came to log back in, only one account (this time mine) was available.Problem is that there seems no way to get back in to the Administrator account. Since most of the files went to that account when I used the files and settings wizard, it effectively stops me using the files.
Ok I think a family member has been logging onto my PC without my permission. I have put password access into my PC but I think they have somehow gotten around it. So I changed my password BUT is there any software that can tell me what date and time someone logged onto my system?
This tweak gives a user the opportunity to use it for good or bad. It enables the user to re-password any account without having to know the existing password and also shows you every account that exists on the machine (even the ones that are hidden). This is a good tool to use if you forgot a password to say your administrator account and you needed to be logged into the admin account for any reason.To view all of the user accounts:1) While logged onto the computer, click on Start>Run>and type in CMD. 2) From the command prompt window, type in net users. This will show you every account that is made onto the computer whether it is hidden or not.To change an account password:1) While logged onto the computer to an account that has administrative rights, click on Start>Run>and type in CMD. 2) Type in net user then the name of the account then * and press enter. heres an example: net user administrator * or net user "Joe Smith" * . Put the name in quotes if it contains spaces.3) From there it should ask for a new password. Type in your new password (type very carefully - the command window won't display what you type) and once more to confirm it.
I have found out that I have a corrupted user account. I have created a new account and am trying to now delete corrupted account but I can't as it always stays logged on. When I start the computer it goes straight to the corrupted account and will only let me switch users.
Its making these icons appear that are either porn or these downloads to those trojan spyware things. There are two icons where the time is, a yellow yield sign and the red x and they just lead me to more of those sites, can someone help me get rid of them?
I contacted Nero about the lightscribe icon not showing up in Nero Ultra 7 and these are the directions they sent me....where do you find local securitypolicy in Windows XP home edition??? How can I find the "Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only". they have listed? Double-click on the entry "Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only". Choose the option "Disabled". Confirm this change by clicking on "Apply and "OK".
