View 2 RepliesLast night I noticed 2 files remaining after deleting my temp files. When I try to delete them, a warning box appears saying that another person or program is using these files. Task manager says no other program is running and I do not see any suspicious processes running. The only recent changes I have made was to schedule a daily backup via NTBACKUP and a daily rename & compression of the backup files via a batch file with Task Scheduler. Does task scheduler leave .tmp files in place I don't want to delete the .tmp files if they are indeed needed by something important

View 6 Replies View RelatedFirst I booted from the Windows XP cd because I wanted to format the C drive. I had forgotten I had my external hard drive still plugged in and I accidently deleted the partition for it and created a new one. I didn't FORMAT it, but then when I started up my computer, all the files were gone. So does that mean my files are premanently deleted or can I save the files somehow?.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a folder (C:Program FilesMicrosoft Office) that won't delete. I get an error message about something to do with "A BIN file is not empty". Unless there is a super-duper utilty that would get rid of folders like that (which I would prefer) I know that I probably have to use the DEL command in Command Prompt. Could you please tell me exactly how to enter that and give a detailed example cause' I always mess it up! By the way I am no longer using Microsoft Office and also I tried unsuccessfully to delete it in safe mode
View 10 Replies View RelatedI was recently using Azureus to download some MP3 files. One of the files didn't finish. The file's folder and some of the music appears to be in the folder I designated for the downloads. When i try to delete it, Win 2K Pro refuses to recognize it. It tells me the file doesn't exist! Same thing if I try to rename the file. A search will not find it either. Anybody have an idea how I can get rid of this thing? It's not causing me any problems, but it's driving me nutz! I don't want to resort to a format!

I'm currently running Windows 2000 Pro, but I'll be moving to XP and the issue is the same with either OS.I don't want my domain users to have Administrator rights because they install things like webshots and ITunes and other junk that could lead to spyware. How do others balance this.

I encountered a very strange problem recently about few weeks ago. Sometimes my laptop will refuse to un-mimimize or let me open any .exe files after being on it for few hours and it'll give me the error sound if I try to ctrl alt delete. Once I close some running programs, it'll go back to normal as if nothing happened. For example, I'm using Adobe Photoshop and I suddenly get a urge to check my email. I mimimize my photoshop, open up firefox and nothing happens. So I think "hmm that's weird" and try to alt + tab back into my photoshop and nothing will work until I close my virus scanner or a winrar file that's opened. I've already scanned my computer for viruses and spywares and there were no results.
View 13 Replies View RelatedBesides the usual TEMP files and Temporary Internet Files (which, by the way, I have on a RAM disk, so they are automatically deleted), I wonder if the log files created by installations can be deleted. I have dozens like KB890923.log created during windows update, as well as the windowsupdate.log itself - fast approaching 3Mb. Would deleting these affect future updates? I also have several 3Mb+ CDF files - two of which current and with names like {000-001-A0F12...}.cdf and .bak, but others which apparently haven't been modified for 3 years, with names like Ctdv10k1.cdf, Ctdv10k2.cdf and Ctdvaudy.cdf - I imagine these files contain info about the multimedia devices and drivers installed - if I delete the old ones and keep the recent ones, am I safe?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased new blank Sony 700 MB CD RW's for a little more capacity. Windows & my Nero 8 both eventually refuse to record to the discs because they are recognizing them as "illegal discs". This error message must result from the size of the disc as I have no problems with 650 MB discs. I was able to record to one of the discs with another computer. This second computer is 64 bit XP VS my 32 bit. The burners are identical, and the Nero 7 used is nearly identical.I then erased the disc (with Nero 7) and tried it in the problem computer same issue.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had to reset the PC at the power button, due to it crashing on me during i was playing a game. When i turned the PC back on again i had lost all the files, pictures, internet history and word documents off my user side of the PC, i checked the other user area and the the files and folders are still intact. The thing that is puzzling me is the fact whenever i save a file/picture/document to my desktop and subsequently turn off the pc after use. It seems to automatically delete the file/picture/document off my desktop and is no were to be found on countless searches i've done on all my harddrives.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI frequently spot a pop-up window titled "Deleting Files", which appears for only a second or two. Files which are being deleted are flashed so quickly that I can't determine what they are. Afterwards there is some corruption, the extent of which I haven't determined, except that my Connection Settings for MSN9 Dial-up are clobbered, and I can't get online. I've been successfully recovering from this situation by doing a System Restore, which has been working well for the past two months, but I need to determine what can be done to resolve the problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with my recycle bin. When I delete something from my c: drive it deletes permanently. It does not go to recycle bin. And when I go to recycle bin properties c: drive is just not there. I can see my d: and g: drive but the c: drive is just not there. Does anybody know what the problem might be, and how to fix it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer's deleted files don't go to the bin, but are directly deleted. I have fixed the problem temporarily by renaming the c: Recycle folder and then letting Windows create a new bin, then deleting the renamed folder. This lasts for a day or two then the problem returns. I'm looking for a more permanent fix short of reformatting.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running XP Home SP2 on an IBM desktop OEM install. I think one of my kids may have delete some criticle files.i found a bunch of family jpegs and 2 cab files in the recycle bin. I restored all the files but have been having slow performance. I am unable to send large emails without getting memory errors if i try to access Device Manager i get the following error:MMC cannot open the file c:windowssystem32devmgmnt.msc. This may because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file. I have adminstrator rights and have tried logging in as another admiinistrator. I've reinstalled SP2 but that didn't help. Short of reinstalling XP (which would be a PITA)
