Shutting Down Saves Settings And Everything Instead Of Just Turning Off

When i press the on/off button on my CPU, my computer shuts down as if i had shut down my computer properly. It saves my settings and everything instead of just turning off. I got an error message a couple of times and everything kinda locked up, though i could still move the little arrow icon around.Because of this, i was forced to press the off button and it has seemed to shut down every single time i've did it.I was wondering if this is considered a proper shut down. Does doing this in anyway effect my computer?

Win XP SP2 - When one shuts down computer it automatically saves settings. Is there anyway of saving settings while the computer is still on?

hey i recently got a HP compaq nx9110 for super cheap, everything was working ok untill i shut it down. i turned it back on and everything i had done was gone. i can fully install 9194223495 programs, or even delete everything i want to, when i restart, everything is the same? since i have looked all over the internet looking for solutions and have came up with nothing.i wasnt worried about it at first cause i got the thing for 100 bucks, but it just seems kind of completely useless now.

When you try to save an image in Microsoft Internet Explorer, the image will only save by the default bmp only. For example, when you right-click an image on a Web page, and then click Save Picture As, the file name that appears is Untitled, and the file type that appears is .bmp, instead of the right file name and type.This behavior occurs when a Damaged or Unknown program file (active or java) is downloaded to the downloaded program files folder. To troubleshoot and resolve this, empty the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder, and then delete any files in the Downloaded Program Files folder that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged.

I used to be able to grab a video clip form the internet and save it to my computor. Now when I grab a video with a wmv extension and do a "save target as" it only saves it as a htm file and does not grab the video itself.

I found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly

When I started up it says Win.ini corrupt. Then it starts up as a new user losing track of Favorites and Start Menu and Desktop Icons, Display and Folder attributes. Under
Documents and Settings it has added Dave.U5R2D5 in addition to Dave which still has all the information. I tried switching the 2 Filenames to get back to what it used to be but gave an error message and didn't do it and started another new file.Is there some way to use the old Dave file?

I'm having a major problem with XP Home Edition. When I start my computer, I get the Loading Settings screen, which automatically switches to the Saving Settings screen and then goes back to Loading Settings, Saving Settings, etc, etc, (the "Windows XP Startup" and "Windows XP Shutdown" sounds repeat themselves one right after the other). By the way, I have the XP tweak that skips the Welcome and log on screens at startup since I'm the only person that uses the computer. I've tried Debugging, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Restore To Last Working Settings and a few others, but nothing is working. I ran Spybot just before shutting down the computer the last time it worked and got the "Congratulations! Your system contains no spyware" message. When I restarted the computer, I started having this problem. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2004 and did a Live Update (manually) a few hours before this started happening.

i seem to be having a problem with my second computer. it keeps turning off and on. it beeps when ever it turns on.i have no idea what the problem is.i was trying to reformat the drive but it would not stay on long enough to read the cd.so i was thinking it might be the harddrive. so i put another harddrive in it that i know is working fine. it does stay on but i get first the safe mode screen. it does not matter what option i pick like start windows normally or start in safe mode after i hit enter i get a blue screen telling me windows has shut down to protect my system from a fatal error. it tells me to check my harddrive for viruses or errors. my problem is i don't know how to get past that blue screen to check my harddrive. i have to turn the computer off. it happens every time i turn it on.i would give you a log report but i can't make one.

I've been having really bad computer troubles recently and really need some help, cause I've wracked my brain trying to think of possible solutions here.To give a bit of background:The computer in question is an AMD Athlon 1800+ that I've had for about 3 years now. It's not the most stellar computer, but I mainly use it to surf the web and play some low-end games nothing spectacular.Recently however it had started to reboot constantly, and eventually just power off and never come back on. I figured it was the power supply, so I purchased a new 400W one, installed it and everything was working great.Fast-forward a couple weeks later, and I started to hear a really odd noise coming from the computer. It sounded almost as if sparks were flying around inside, but I removed the case and checked what the problem was, and it seemed the CPU cooling fan was having some troubles, and eventually stopped working. So just today I went out and bought a new CPU cooling fan, installed it, and again, everything was working fine.
However, just tonight, the computer began to reboot randomly again, and now it is at the point where it will not turn on, and when I do power it on, it just idles and beeps constantly. They are fairly short beeps, but they continue on and on indefinitely. I read up on the beep codes and how they coordinate with the BIOS setting, but problem is I have no idea which BIOS setting I have, so I am not sure what could be the problem. To be safe, I began to unplug the cards one by one, seeing if any of them stopped the beeping, but to no avail.So I am at a total loss here Having just bought those two things recently and STILL having the computer act like a pile of garbage is disheartening to say the least, and I just hope someone may have an idea on what or how I could fix this.

My PC is around 6 years old, maybe older, and for the last couple of months, mostly during the night (which to be honest scares the hell out of me), it will turn on randomly. Sometimes it's when I move the mouse, which I know had something to do with a setting in the BIOS, but sometimes it's for no reason at all. It just...boots. Sometimes straight after I turn it back off. I've had to unplug it at night.I always shut it down properly - no standby or hibernation.

In my Local Area Connection Properties, I turned off the Internet Connection Firewall, but I have symptoms of it being on, like, unable to host Warcraft 3 games, slow download speeds, etc etc, and even an error that say it is on while I'm patching World of Warcraft, is there a way to fix this?

My PC keeps turning on sticky keys. I have turned this off in control panel and in the dialogue box that appears but it just keeps turning on and off randomly.I reset the sytem to an earlier date and that cures it for a day or two then back.I have rune three different virus checkers but they find nothing.

What does turning off PBC mean in Video CD / SVCD ? I need some technical information regarding this feature. I know PBC deals with the PSD.VCD file and with the Selection list.Does it mean that when the PBC feature is turned off, the Selection list becomes inaccessible?Can PBC turned off/on during normal playback?

here's the deal my vista kept getting blue screens so I reinstalled it. I was unhappy with it and tried to install XP. The computer keeps turning off on install while its loading files. I've formatted several times to try and get this working so now I don't even have an os to get on the computer with. I'm running an acer aspire 5100. I tried to get back on by installing vista again but the expanding files part of the install stops at 90% and I get an error. Repairs from both xp and vista install discs don't do anything.

I have done a reformat w/ xp and added sp2. I tried turning off popups while in this process of installing etc. and adding tsg for allowances. I use Mozilla Firefox .... and when I had installed the Java, I would come to TSG and check it out on Chat. 99.9 % of the time - all worked great with no problems. I don't know why now? I tried the java on a test page/ which said it was working, yet I can not access chat and I get timed out trying? I will add 2 pictures as reference. as I am getting dizzy going around in circles.

Having a little problem here. I have a 7 year old Compaq Presario Desktop. 3 times now (Thurs night, Fri night, Sat morning) while it's being used the screen goes black, and the fans shut off inside the tower. But the green power light stays on. I turned off the PC last night to let it cool down but this AM the same thing happened again.Is this problem due to the computer over heating? I just cleaned the whole thing up 2 months ago for the first time in a long time, but maybe something got in there causing the fan not to spin correctly.

I have 2 Acer monitors hooked up to my X800 and sometimes after turning themselves off while I was afk only one will come back on when I return to the PC. Turning the monitor on/off doesn't help, nor does opening a window that I know is open on the monitor that is off. Any ideas? The screens do work correctly after reboot.

I have recently installed anti-virus on my other computer. I turned it off last night and this morning I turned it on to find the mouse and KB don't work. I noticed the optical light is on until the windows loading screen shows up and then it immediately shuts off. I have looked in the bios everything is enabled, I tried to boot into safe mode and that doesn't work either, as soon as windows starts loading the mouse shuts off. I tried repairing windows and when it reboots to re-install, the mouse light goes off again. Later, an error pops up looking for a file iaStor.sys, which i cannot locate because my mouse does not work.

I tried taking it off in the setup boot menu, but think, by selecting "Clear startup password," I reset it to some default password, which I dont know. I don't understand why, but my computer is turning itself on! Just now - 6:08 PM, PST it turned itself on. Could it be someone controlling the computer remotely? Could it have to do with "Hibernate?" Usually I use "Hibernate" to turn off the computer.

I turn on the computer and it starts to load.I see the Windows screen then the computer just shuts down and restarts again.It has done this around 40 times now in 4 days and just wont turn on.Is this some kind of short somewhere in the computer.I also disconnected it from the power source and tried a new one and still the same thing.
