I was cleaning my brother's computer of junk using a registry cleaner and a junk file remover. After cleaning the registry and defragmenting it, I restarted the computer and it would not let me log in. It says loading your personal settings quickly followed by saving your settings and then logging off. It would go back to the welcome screen and that's it. It is the same in Safe Mode.
where if i log off an account and try to log in again, there is a 1 min "Loading account settings" (i've checked it and its loading WgaLogon.dll...) and then there is an endless? (i've only been patient enough to leave it for 15 minutes) screen showing the desktop image.I can open the Task Administer and see there are some processes working (scvhost.exe mainly). I notice this not in the cpu-usage column, but on the memory-usage column, where these processes change the used memory (not in great numbers, though) Fast user switching works fine if i dont sign off of any account (I currently have only two).
I am about to reformat the HD on my laptop...is there a way to save my network settings so that once it's reformatted I can just copy those settings back into XP? I have a wireless network, and I don't care to go through the whole process again of setting up my network and file sharing..
I can't get Windows Explorer in Win 2k to save it's settings. I've run Registry Mechanic but the problem persists. Is there a Registry tweak to straighten this out?

whenever I try to apply a change to my theme settings, the settings never save. I try to choose the Windows XP theme. When I apply it, it reverts back to the Modified Theme setting.

I've recently installed Sony Sound Forge 8 which, as part of the installation, creates an ASP.NET user.Since this user was created, I have to click on my User Account to log in (it's the only one thatg shows on the welcome screen, the ASP one is hidden) How do I get it back to logging me in automatically - there's no password on the account.
I've been searching for most parts of the net and the forums here and did install uninstall restore my notepad, paint and wordpad but nothing seems to work. When these files are opened, nothing seems to be a problem. But whenever you attempt to save by Ctrl+S, or the by clicking File>Save or File>Save As the program automatically closes. This has been a consistent behavior for the 3 softwares.I'm using Windows XP 64 bit OS and had no error messages of any sort except that these programs just close themselves when a save attempt is done.I did virus and malware scans by Avast, ESET Nod & Kaspersky and nothing was detected.Reinstalling isn't an option for me now as I don't have any optical drive... besides, this may be very hard for me but I'm willing to suffer for the sake of learning.
A while back I had a program or a tweak that enabled me to change/add to the list on the left side of the window that opens when you want to save or save as. So, if I was saving a photo, instead of clicking on My Documents >> My Pictures, I was able to just click on My Pictures, ect. (See Photo) Does anyone know of a tweak/program that would allow me to do this?
When downloading files, any type files, just using IE's dialog, or using a Download Manager's dialog, Explorer's Save or Save As panels *will not* allow me to create a new folder on XPpro [current user's] desktop! I am allowed to save the file to the desktop, and of course, can then create a new folder directly on the desktop with the context menu, and etc. It will allow me to create a new folder anywhere else and save any type file being downloaded into that new folder. It simply will not allow me to create a new folder on the Desktop.Could this be some kind of registry alteration?
I noticed this problem like a week ago. I tried to download and save some vids, but the windows that says the percent of your download just freezes. I thought it was a problem with the vid, but now I see it's the computer.Whatever I try to dowload it's the same problem. What can it be? It was fine before.
my computer is unable to save any files at all. It cannot save files off the internet or save any files in a Save As.. format? Ive searched the internet for the last 2 weeks looking for some infomation on the problem but i cannot find anything?
I found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly
When I started up it says Win.ini corrupt. Then it starts up as a new user losing track of Favorites and Start Menu and Desktop Icons, Display and Folder attributes. Under Documents and Settings it has added Dave.U5R2D5 in addition to Dave which still has all the information. I tried switching the 2 Filenames to get back to what it used to be but gave an error message and didn't do it and started another new file.Is there some way to use the old Dave file?
My computer does this stalling when I do a Save, Save As. It stalls for about 20 sec. But when I do a Save or Save As out of Auto-Cad it stalls and then locks up completely. I've check all my network setting and they seem to be correct.
I'm having a major problem with XP Home Edition. When I start my computer, I get the Loading Settings screen, which automatically switches to the Saving Settings screen and then goes back to Loading Settings, Saving Settings, etc, etc, (the "Windows XP Startup" and "Windows XP Shutdown" sounds repeat themselves one right after the other). By the way, I have the XP tweak that skips the Welcome and log on screens at startup since I'm the only person that uses the computer. I've tried Debugging, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Restore To Last Working Settings and a few others, but nothing is working. I ran Spybot just before shutting down the computer the last time it worked and got the "Congratulations! Your system contains no spyware" message. When I restarted the computer, I started having this problem. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2004 and did a Live Update (manually) a few hours before this started happening.
Ever since I got this PC I have struggled to log on to AOL. When signing on, I need to time exactly the moment the modem arrows at the bottom of the screen turn from yellow to green with the moment AOL tries to move to step 2 of the 6 steps it does while logging in. i.e. when the second of the 3 globes on the AOL screen appears. This is very difficult to do as I have to click the sign on button a few seconds before I think the arrows will go green and I have to time it exactly right. I need to repeatedly unplug and plug in the modem for each attempt. Sometimes I drop lucky and get on quickly, today took 45 minutes! I have reloaded both AOL and the modem several times, but this makes no difference. Once I am in, the connection is fine. If I log out of AOL and then back in again without turning off the PC then I get back in again straight away. I have a PC in another room which has no such problems.
I have recently reformatted my hard drive and i must say that everything is running fine. Everything, all my programs, all that good stuff.Im running Windows Xp, Media Center Edition, with fairly solid specs behind it.I just have one problem, when the system starts up. It does not stop at the log on screen, it just continues into my account without even asking for a password. Now i dont need other people being able to get on my computer simply by turning it on.
I select my account and enter my password. Windows begins to load my personal settings but then quits and goes back to the login screen showing the user accounts. I can stop this from happening by moving the mouse while my settings are being loaded.
This problem started about a month ago. When I try to sign into MSN Messenger I get an error message saying," Sorry,We could not sign you in because the sign-in name you entered does not exist or your password is incorrect. If you have forgotten your password, please click help in the main Messenger window, and then click Help Topics for instructions on resetting your password. 0x81000303 " I tryed logging on with other accounts and the same error message appeared.
i use both mozilla firefox and internet explorer when i have to and when i log into anything form hotmail to ebay on either of these and then click on any icon requiring you to be logged in i am returned to a page telling me to sign in, could this be a virus or even spyware? i have done scans; (ad-aware, AVG, Spybot, Windows Defender, Registry Mechanic, CCleaner, Zone labs antispyware and trend micro pc-cillin interent security) could it be that maybe on of these has removed a file that allows me to log in?
This is very weird, it just started recently happening. I have two accounts on my computer, my account, and a guest account. My account works. However, when I log on to the guest account (which my other family members use), it just shows the background and no taskbar or desktop or nothing, just the background of the guest user and the thing just keeps loading until you need to turn off the computer.I've left it there for over an hour loading. So I tried created a account titled Family for everyone else but it's the same thing. What's the problem here?
