View 4 RepliesI have Kaspersky, Registry Mechanic, PerfectDisk, Spybot, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and Adaware. I run them all periodically, and I also regularly run CheckDisk. On top of this, however, my computer still loads slowly at the desktop (the XP splash screen only takes about 2 seconds to pass; I'm just saying it takes a long time when the PC loads at the desktop, the HDD LED staying on for about 2 minutes). What can I do to fix this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI run Windows XP had to recently restore my laptop.Things are getting back to "normal" except that now when I click on the "start" button and then "turn off computer"I have to wait about 4-5 minutes while the hour glass icon spins before I get the "log off, shutdown, restart" menu. Once this appears and I select "shutdown" everything goes okay and shuts down pretty fast. What might be causing this long delay?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out. I'm unable to shut down my laptop. It's HP branded and runs on XP Pro. What happens is that it sits or seems to be stuck on the process of "closing network connection" when trying to shut it down. It takes about 25 minutes to shut down because of this "closing network connection". I wonder if anyone might be able to tell me what may be the cause and how to fix this? If i can ask what's really happening in the event of "Closing network connection" during shutdown process?

View 12 Replies View RelatedMy computer works really well, the only problem is, when I start or shutdown my computer, it's very very slow. It's appears to be frozen for a minute or so and then start or shutdown. It does start or shutdown properly but it's slow. It can take up to 2 - 3 minutes to either start or shutdown.I noticed that when I start my computer, I see the Windows Update yellow shield appear near the clock and then goes away. I'm not sure if it's related but thought I would let you know.
View 9 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine has a compaq pressario with winxp service pack 1 and it has started acting very strange.on the shutdown menu the only buttons that appear are to log off user or change user there is no turn off or restart buttons. We restored the system to the last good state and that fixed the problem but aftre about 15 minutes or so the same thing happened all over again. When it does this her programs als will not respond. You can open a couple of them by right clicking and selecting open but even like that most of them show the hourglass for a few seconds and then nothing.I had her boot into safe mode and do a scan with her norton software and although there were a couple cases of adware that we knew about ahead of time there wre no real infections.

It seems to do it either sporadically when im away from it or using it for long periods of time. I recently installed a brand new power supply Ultra 400 watts ATX power supply. It seems to be getting worse with time. Im currently running disk defragmenter hoping this issue can be resolved soon. I have a bad feeling it may be my motherboard

This started a couple of days ago after I downloaded spybot search and destroy. I used it on my computer for the first time and I guess it messed something up with my configurations?I also keep getting a popup that says "Connect SVCamera" while I'm trying to access different sites.

Nothing seems to help. I am confused because this computer has run well up until recently. It is older we purchased it in about 2002-2003.In case this is important--it is a Dell and I'm running Windows XP.

It's so bothersome that I'm now using Notepad whenever possible but I'd much rather use Wordpad. I've scanned with several virus scanners and they all come up clean. Thanks
View 14 Replies View RelatedI've got xp sp2 and it's running just fine. The only problem is that it takes 5-10 seconds to open any program from a desktop shortcuts(AVG,Spyboot,Nero, Winamp). It is not a big deal but maybe somebody have some simple solution. This had been happening for the last couple of years and a few months ago I reinstalled Windows(clean install) but nothing changed.
View 14 Replies View RelatedRecently I have noticed that my PC has been loading things really slowly. When I start my computer, there is a black screen with a loading bar at the bottom, which takes atleast five minutes to load. When I launch a game, it takes ages for it to start up and it also takes ages to join a server. I tried reformating, but it didn't help. When I was installing one of my games, I found that it took about 10 times as long to install. And while it was installing, I couldn't do anything else because it slowed everything down. It's like my RAM has been lowered or something. I am guessing it may be a hardware problem.

Recently my computer has been freezing and moving very slowly, my pc fan runs for an unusually long time, a lot more then it used to, and i get a black screen before my administration sign in page to log into the desktop, and then, the desktop takes another 2 minutes to fully load. I've tried uniblue registrybooster 2 and that didnt really help much even though it seemed to "fix" 630 errors i had on my computer. i posted a hijack log a week or so back and never got any replies or help so i tried to take matters into my own hand and now i seem to have made it worse.

View 15 Replies View RelatedIgnore the siggie info; the problem is on a separate computer, a Compax laptop. There is 256MB physical memory and 2GB virtual memory. The C: disk has heaps of room on it.
It has Avast AV, Spybot, Adaware and Spyware Blaster and uses the XP firewall. All are up to date and all come up clean when checked. I do a monthly defrag and have Easy Cleaner and empty unnecessary files and surplus registry entries monthly. Despite all this it seems to run abnormally slowly, particularly when bringing up onboard stuff like OE, IE and other programs. Downloading internet sites seem pretty reasonable.
My computer has been running very slowly lately. I have 67 free gigs of space, so I wouldn't think that's the problem. It's slow in the following ways:programs seem to lag pretty badly when I have more than one open. Sometimes even when I only have one open. Could this be due to my computer's amount of RAM

Anyone got any suggestions as to what might be causing this ? The rest of the system seems OK, I've tried going back a couple of months with system restore.
