Laptop Slows Down And Goes Back To Normal After Restart?
Mar 23, 2010
laptop would start acting sluggishly after a while of using it. This problem occurs at very random intervals but once it is occurred, the performance stays sluggish until the restart. Once I restart the laptop, the problem goes away until later when it repeats again. Sometimes this problem would not occur for 2 days.Mouse movement represents "stuttering" Dragging windows is not smooth. Window drags very slow, leaving half of image in the original spot and then "catching up".Program loading times seem unaffected. Playing music files during the performance drop produces delays in sound Running any videos during the performance drop produces "freeze and go" effect on videos.
My computer slows down to a point that I cannot use it at all. The problem started last Sunday, right after I uploaded pictures I also noticed that sometimes after the computer comes back to normal updates are being installed. Before Sunday my PC was running just fine. Neither virus nor Malware was found.
I've been noticing that my computer slows down over time as I use it, especially games Everything is fine after a fresh reboot/restart, but the second time I go to run a game, there is a slight performance drop, and by the third time, it is noticly jumpy.I know the problem is not graphics related, as I can turn them all the way down without the slightest change. The problem is in all of my games, weather demanding or not, it is just as apparant in BF2 and HL2 as it is in Defcon and Trainz.
after being online for about 2-2and a half hours my comp slows way down to the point of not being able to much of anything. Then after I let it sit for around 20-30 minutes it clears up and does fine. Just wondering why it started doing this and what I can do to resolve this issue.
SInce the past week I notice that the system slows down tremendously. When I go to Task Manager I notice that the CPU utilisation is 100% and spoolsv.exe is the process which is causing it. I have to resort to ending the process but this is not a good solutions and the problem keeps repeating. I use AVG free to eliminate viruses.
my laptop seems to be slowing down lately and gets stuck more and more often, that I'd like to do a big time spring cleaning and basically start from scratch. but first I wouldlike to make a backup cd, so that I won't lose all my stuff.how do I make a backup (my help-programm doesn't open anymore at the moment) and also, how do I best get rid of everything and then start again (is it called reformatting?)
The complaint is that Windows is very slow, and the problem started after "the yellow item (icon) showed up on the screen (system tray)."When the cursor is placed over the "yellow item," the text says "Automatic Updates."The computer is an HP Laptop, and the operating system is Windows XP. Now I realize that this is a very indefinite description of a problem, but I hope someone can help with the following questions: Has anyone had any problems with either slow boot or slow operation when Windows automatic updates are enabled? Either with Windows 2000 or Windows XP? When you enable automatic updates, does the "Windows Update" option from the START/ALL PROGRAMS menu disappear (it had disappered from the menu on the problem computer)? Can automatic updates be disabled, and, if so, does the option return to the All Programs menu?
here's what's up - after about 10 minutes of being on the computer it slows down significantly, particularly web browsing. i usually notice the problem when using firefox 2.0 to check out videos on Internet. after watching 2 or so videos, the videos become very choppy and the system starts coming to a halt. checking out the task manager - i find that the cpu hits 100% during these episodes and per the processes the cpu is being gobbled up by firefox. a similar thing happens when i run itunes.
i installed a browser to monitor cpu speed/temp etc. i found that i have tons of ram available (at least 600 mb) even during the slow periods. i also found that the cpu temp is pretty reasonable (53 c) but then i found that my cpu is running at 600 mhz (most of the time, irregardless if plugged in or not). i can't seem to make my system run at full cpu capacity and am not sure why or if this has anything to do with my problem.
I always met the problems when I wanted to log off/shutdown/restart Windows XP Professional. When I click log off/shutdown/restart button, nothing happened. What I can do is just press the power button 5 sec to shutdown. But that problem didn't happen every time. I met this error in a lot of computers. I think it's not a hardware problem.
Problem with my PC. It booting very slow-30 min and does not show any text and pictures. After completing booting it works fine. If I re-boot PC it booting normal in 30 sec. I did a lot of things but no result.
I have recently used Driver Genius to update some drivers and had a power outage while installing the video card drivers. After the power was restored I could not boot normally (it would go blank after the loading screen goes away before the log on screen comes up.) So I boot into safe mode and install the drivers there, and then restart. It worked after about 12 tries. Now, it will not load normally at all anymore. While checking the system error logs, I find that (from 9/26/09 - 9/27/09) I am missing quite a few catalog files in the "system32CatRoot{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}" directory.
I have Window XP Home with SP2.I have swapped to a new hard drive (not done this before)Old drive was 80g Sata and new drive is WD 500g Sata.I formatted new drive and set as addition storge as it was in D. Then I coppied C onto D using WD lifeguard tools.I removed C and swapped leads for PC to read previous D as C and the drive to boot from. Now on boot the PC as to select Windows Defalt on a black screen. Selecting this activates Windows and all seems to work ok.How do I get back to normal startup. I still have original C drive to go back to if needed.I tried adding line in boot ini so that it would start on windows and all that did was to give me 2nd option for Windows XP and when I selected that it said a file was missing.
changed the color around the desktop icons to black. Not a major deal but it bugs me. I have no clue how to get it back to the transparent like normal. Tried to change themes but its like that on all of them.
I have a Compaq Duo Core notebook, with 1GB ram and 100 GB HD. Running Win XP SP2. I have a lot of programs on the system and over the last week or so, I've noticed that the computer is very slow.I use a program called Cleanse Uninstaller which has a junk file finder. I've used it to "analyse" what could be taken off and it presented me with a list of over 200 files. But which ones can I actually remove?? Furthermore, will this actually have a beneficial effect on the speed? Also, I have Norton ghost 12.0. and an external drive of 120 Gb. I've been doing incremental backups of "my computer" and certain essential files. Everything appears to be working okay.
I have installed a program that acts like a docking station (like a Mac's menu). The location of this dock is where the start menu is, and I minimized the start menus. Only except, every time I restart my machine, the start menu is back to its normal size. I am using Win2000.
I'm going to start off with my whole process on how I did this. I am performing this in a Compaq SR5310F Desktop computer that originally came with Vista Home Premium:Within Vista, I opened the Disk Management utility. I then shrunk the volume and left myself with exactly 40GB of unallocated space for my XP installation. I then booted from my XP Pro cd, selected that unallocated space, formatted it using NTFS, then installed XP. It copied all the files fine, but when it reboots to launch the GUI of the installation, I get a message saying, "Error loading operating system"
In winamp, all my songs that are in my music folder all have the same, incorrect album art unless they are in another subfolder with their own album art.I narrowed down the problem to the fact that when I put my documents folder into thumbnail view, the art appears on my music folder, rather than the default my music folder icon.I have looked everywhere in this folder for this image, which was originally on some music my brother was downloading and deleted a long time ago and cannot see a way of restoring it back to normal. This is what it is like in my document and the album art on the my music folder is on every song inside that isn't in a subfolder:gured out why. I had to turn on display system files and delete them manually. I guess I shouldn't have just tried show hidden files
Ok hereS the problem... I'm using Windows XP Home edition with SP 2, I was having some problems with my Mcafee anti-virus software, so I booted up in Safe mode (using msconfig) to do a system virus scan. Once I did that, I tried to load msconfig to get back into normal mode, but i kept getting an error saying I must be logged in as the Administrator to do it, Which I was. Can someone please help me get back into normal mode so I don't have to reformat? Also: I do not have system restore enabled so that is not an option.
got a Hp laptop that has recently started running slower than normal lol.I have ran adaware and also cleaned my cookies and cache but still has not helped. Not sure what else I should do.
The integrated keyboard (PS/2) on my Inspiron 2650 notebook stopped working in the middle of normal operation. The power and standby keys work, along with the mouse, but no standard keys respond, even on powerup. XP says its working fine.
I accidently hit the reset button on my computer while cleaning off the screen. the computer will not restart, it tries too, but keeps on coming back to the same screen, which asks me to start windows normally. I click on that, it tries to restart , then it comes right back to that screen. It continues to do this even if I don't click on the start windows normally?
I've recently formated my laptop, and in the other day i updated the internet explorer version (6) to the 7. After that i restarted the computer and the IE is now on the previous version which is the 6. This happens every time after i make the update
I have 2 computer and a printer hooked up to a firewall then to the DSL modem. about once or twice a day either 1 or both computers loss connection and the only way to get them to come back up is to restart the computers. Other ways it happens are one will be down without Internet and the other will be working fine. Both computers are HP's running win XP. I am at a remote location that the store connects to. i can ping to the firewall and see it within a min of them calling me and telling me it is down. i dont ever see any errors or lost packets or anything on the firewall.
The things i have done. 1) I have replaced both computer 2 different times. 2) rewired the store with cables from walmart. 3) replaced the modem (replaced by dsl provider - they show the circuit is fine) 4) replaced the firewall 5) gone through hijack this logs even on a computer i set up for them the day before. 6) got a battery backup for the computer in the backroom.
I go to appearance tab and change the size of my fonts under the desktop icons. I change the font size to 12. I click apply and it changes the fonts to 12. When I reboot, the fonts go back to the original 7 size. What do you think overrides the change.
hey i recently got a HP compaq nx9110 for super cheap, everything was working ok untill i shut it down. i turned it back on and everything i had done was gone. i can fully install 9194223495 programs, or even delete everything i want to, when i restart, everything is the same? since i have looked all over the internet looking for solutions and have came up with nothing.i wasnt worried about it at first cause i got the thing for 100 bucks, but it just seems kind of completely useless now.
i just instaled win xp and office. everything works ok.just when i shutdown the computer it restart it self as if i just pushed the restart button. that is why i need each time to reset the computer.
My laptop (Presario 2700) froze last night. I tried to restart it several times and it completely stops at the Windows XP screen. Running the Home edition. Even in safe mode, it stops at the XP screen.
I just spoke to my daughter at college who is having trouble with her Acer laptop, running XP SP2, Intel Celleron, 2GB RAM, and using Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite. When she clicks "shut down" the laptop appears to shut down, but then restarts. "Restart" is not selected. I did a Google search and found a known problem with Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0 and with Direct CD 5.0, but as best I can tell she has neither program installed (she looked in "programs" folder, and in control panel under "add and remove programs" and couldn't find either listed). I also had her right click "my computer", "properties", "advanced", "startup and recovery - settings", and uncheck the "automatically restart" box in "system failure" section. But her laptop still restarts at shutdown.
I want a program to run at startup and I want to be able to change what I have done at any time.
There are a number of unchecked entries in msconfig and I have to use Selective Startup all the time.
If I want to revert to Normal Startup under the General tab instead of Selective Startup, the program's box automatically rechecks itself in Startup.
The Startup tab gives me a handy record of what I did and allows for an easy change of mind so long as I continue to use Selective Startup.
If I edit the Registry to stop programs running at startup, they won't show in msconfig and I lose the handy record of how it was and I may have to reinstall the program to go back to it running at startup.
I would like to accomplish this:
1. Use Normal Startup instead of Selective Startup.
2. Have some programs not run at startup, but be able to easily change back to having them run at startup.
3. Have a readily accessible list of those programs and the details as shown under the Startup tab as a reminder of how it was without having to manually enter it all into a text file or keep a notebook or reinstall.
Is there some way to use Normal Startup, stop programs running at startup, but retain or find a list of those programs (including the details under the headings Startup Item, Command, Location) that is shown when using Selective Startup with unchecked boxes under the Startup tab?
To put it another way, use Normal Startup but somehow retain the convenient flexibility of Selective Startup.
